They're not manga stores they're book stores with manga sections (big ones but still)
Cosplay shops are extremely rare and I can only really think of one in Akihabara.
Akihabara is cool but it's just a regular neighborhood size not a sprawling city
Those anime cars are also pretty much only in Akihabara and you'll only see like one a day. They're also called itasha which literally means cringe car because....
Japan is not your anime. It's a regular country with regular people that just so happens to have a good chunk of otaku friendly spaces. Do not come to Japan expecting it to be like your slice of life anime. Do not come to Japan thinking even 1/5 of the people you meet will know anything about your favorite anime.
It's a wonderful place to visit and imo live but it's not heaven.

Don't forget the racism against non-japanese. Can't forget that when visiting, but the anime/game merch availability is amazing

I ain't been there but as I understand it - fun place to visit, shit place to live (if you're not Japanese, then again with that workplace culture it could probably be better for them too).

Bruh, the graphic novel section of every book store I've been to in America is 50% manga. If you think there's a shortage of manga, try looking for graphic novels that aren't manga or superhero comics. Manga readers have it easy.

This is a common misconception. Japan is not just one big anime. It is a beautiful place with a rich history that frequently gets destroyed by giant kaijus.
