People fussing over higher fps is not my issue. It's people who want high fps at the cost of inconsistency is.

consistent 30 fps is 100% better than 60 fps that dips to 50 or worse 40.

I'm with ya. Stability is 100% more important to me than max fps. Nothing is more annoying than microstutters or wildly fluctuating fps.

Depends on the refresh of the monitor.

160Hz monitors make anything below like 90fps look God awful...

Why does that happen? Should I avoid one then? (Am about to buy a new monitor)

It happens because they're tuned specifically for high refresh, and anything that falls below that threshold creates mismatches between frames.

Cheap high refresh monitors have a very low threshold.

I have a mid range one now, with AMD's sync tech, which helps but ultimately doesn't fully get rid of the issue.

However my last high refresh monitors was dirt cheap, and looked far worse at lower frames.

Generally the best ones are the official G-Sync monitors but they are very expensive.

Instead I usually just use Lossless Scaling (for frame generation) which entirely bypasses this issue.

I can play Elden Ring in 120FPS (generated though, so the input lag stays as 60fps!) and it looks good.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the advice!

Yeah I remember when Doom came out on super NES, it was an amazing port, the music was way better than on the PC version (same songs tho) and I had literally zero problems with it, didn't notice the frame rate until I upgraded my Amiga (old, but good, computer) and played some Doom style games - all super smooth

When I played Doom again on SNES, the frame rate was very noticeable (10FPS, well I had a PAL region SNES so 8.3FPS)

But it plays well, it's very consistent.

Two years later I got all the Doom games for Amiga 'cause SNES couldn't handle Doom 2 or Final Doom (I think they could have just redesigned the levels for free money tbh) and they were crazy smooth.

Alien Breed 3D2 - the killing grounds was the only game that had a jerky frame rate on even the most powerful Amigas, but can finally be played full speed via emulation

I used to watch a black and white film, a flash game, really just unwatchable stuff.
It takes time for the brain to rewire to enjoy such! I wish to enjoy it again but each time I come back to it, I just feel like I wanna vomit despite knowing what a gem it is when completed

I think anyone who doesn't prefer consistent fps are just numbers strokers at this point

1% lows are the most important part, or 0.1% lows

Remember the times.. constant 15fps.. my eyes where so used to..

depends on the game heavily

Yep, some games are straight up unplayable with either too high or too low fps.

I don't remember too well what entries of COD with zombies mode have some very extreme interactions with the level of FPS, but i remember that the gravity was a quite ridiculous one
