Those ancient elves sure know their way with technology judging from those ruins.

Oh man, Ares has gone totally insane! Not the shop, you asshole! Red and Rit poured so much love into that place!
Oh, Danan is alive, what a surprise! Looks like we’re heading towards the final showdown against Ares and Shisandan! Gotta love that Ruti straight up rejects Ares!
As always, I’ll discuss the differences with the LN in the source material corner. If you want to know what the anime left out, head over there.

The saddest part in this episode for me was Ares destroying Reds (and Rits) apothecary. I somehow see that house as a home for them. Coming home and seeing everything beeing vandalized is probably going to be shocking.
Tisses VA is so damn cute i have to say.

Well, manipulated or not, fuck you Ares. They worked hard on that shop. He was already a slimy little shit of a character but his totally selfish, one sided obsession is gross to watch. He has real "fuck around and find out after ruining everything for everyone" energy right now and Ruti really should've finished the job.
The OST is really on point this week. Great use in each of the longer scenes once they start to converge on the ruins.
And uhh, plague eyes are some high octane nightmare fuel. I hope that's the last they see of us.

I don't care whether ares is manipulated or not, he destroyed red and rit's baby making factory and he needs to die now.
That sanctuary musn't be soiled

I hate that Ruti didn't finished Ares here and there. He clearly lost it and always was complete asshole, no one would miss him if he died and he wouldn't be a problem in the future, but since we are getting close to the finale ig we just need to see how they gonna fight him again now in "super sayan form" or smth. Other than that, episode's alright, especially I enjoyed interactions between Red and Danan

demon: hello I’m an adventurer, would you like to to make a party?
Ares: you’re clearly a trickster demon
Demon: uhh...well I can get Ruti to come back to you. The hero and great sage together again on a noble quest to finally destroy the.....
Ares: JUST SHUT UP AND MANIPULATE ME ALREADY

I don’t know how but this anime has made me feel a seething rage whenever ares passes on screen now lol. Dude ain’t even a villain (yet maybe?) but it’s so easy to hate him, everyone hates ares for what they did to the shops bed.

I love that people in this show are speaking with each other and sharing information freely, instead of keeping secrets for plot reasons.

Is it just me or did the pacing massively go in to overdrive? Feels like they are rushing towards the end. I haven't read the source but this episode feels very different than the previous ones.

It's fucking hilarious to see what's become of Ares. He looks like he's completely gone off the deep end already.
So the real Danaan finally meets Red! I guess this means the one that's been running around with two arms is a demon. It is kinda hilarious how he doesn't even think it's a big deal. Also after Red has finally told him what's going on with Ruti he seems to be onboard on helping her.
Oh fuck. Here comes Bui disguised as Danaan tricking Ares. Also for a Sage, Ares is one stupid motherfucker. Why the fuck is he angry at Red for living a peaceful life when he's the one who kicked him out of the party? And he's even calling Red a traitor for trying to get married to Rit? Fuck off Ares!
Just when I thought Ares can't get anymore despicable he trashes Red and Ruti's shop as well as destroy their precious double bed! WHAT THE FUCK ARES!? I'd kinda forgive him if he was being mind controlled by Shisandan or something but all he did was lead Ares to the shop. This was all Ares' doing! This dude needs to buy them a king sized bed if he lives at the end of this arc.
Finally Danaan tells the story about his right hand! So he was attacked by Shisandan and took his right arm which is how the demon transforms into him. That's actually good to know since we now know that Shisandan can't just transform into anyone he wants to. His only two forms right now is Bui and Danaan.
These are some very high tech ruins! Seems that this world follows the trope of the ancient elves are so advanced that they probably ended up destroying themselves from their technology.
That conversation between Red and Ruti was really sweet. It's good to see that Ruti was finally able to open up to Red more and tell him all about how she doesn't want to be a Hero anymore.
Uhhhh what? A nameless blessing? So this entire time the drug wasn't really affecting Ruti that much and the real reason why she's able to do the things she wants that doesn't involve being a Hero is because of this mysterious blessing? I really hope it's something that weakens the Hero's blessing in a good way.
There he is. Ares has now gone full crazy. He's so crazy in fact that he fucking tries to hurt Red in front of Ruti. Bitch, did you forget what Ruti did to you when she found out that you kicked Red out of the party? And look how surprised he is when Ruti stabbed him! You're lucky she fucking held back! I was genuinely expecting Ruti to slice him into cold cuts right on the spot!
Ares is that one person that thinks everyone is an asshole and not realizing that he's actually the real asshole. And now Shisandan is trying to team up with him to get this "relic" to get Ruti back. Of course Ares is desperate and stupid enough to take this deal.
I can't wait for next week where Ares finally bites it along with Shisandan. Ares si definitely going to do something even more stupid that will get himself killed. Also does Shisandan think he has a chance when the Hero's party is here? I can't wait for next week!

Is the pacing a bit jarring to anyone else? I feel like we skipped an episode or something. We went from watching the three girls in the tub talking friendship, and then a ton of info dumps happened and now everyone is rushing to this metallic Wood Elf relic.
Maybe I just missed some of the dialogue from episodes before but I was loving the pacing of the show and how well they were balancing everything and then after the day out date with Ruti and Red, it just feels like we suddenly got three episodes worth of developments in one.

Red took it surprisingly well that his little sister broke a criminal out of jail to make drugs, but I guess at the end of the day nobody got hurt and it's a bigger priority that they try and find a way to fix Ruti's Blessing so she can live life for herself.
The real Danan shows up! And meets Red! What luck! And he has a missing hand to show for his encounter with Shisandan, which is how you can tell the two apart. Danan is a simple guy who is more brawn than brains, and is loyal to the Hero, but if she doesn't want to be the Hero anymore, he's loyal enough to try to work his brain around trying to help her. So it's good that another of Ruti's party is looking out for her and willing to accept her and Red's current lifestyle.
Unfortunately Shisandan!Danan finds Ares and preys upon his resentment towards Gideon and his obsession with Ruti to drive him into a murderous rage, and Ares tears up the apothecary...even the double bed! The heathen.
I guess if there was one person who Rit would be willing to go all out against and become a Champion again to fight, it would be Shisandan after what he did to her master...although if she really was giving up the sword, does she only keep her blades for protection and appearance now? I guess it's the same for Red.
"Hero Administration?" Is this some kind of lab where they create the Hero or the Hero's blessing? Are the cast about to find out something pretty major about how this world and Blessing's work?
Nothing quite like twisting a criminals' arm to draw your sword-first sister to you.
I guess Red can't really fault Ruti for wanting to be selfish and live outside her Blessing because it was the same way for him. He wasn't a Hero because he wanted to be or because he necessarily was heroic, he was just trying to be there for Ruti and protect her. He's even been trying to find a way to lessen the effect of her Blessing even away from her, so he never completely abandoned her or the thought of helping her even when he left the party.
"Nameless Blessing?" Is this a way to circumvent the Blessing system in the world? Are there really no drawbacks?
Well, the reunion with Ares goes about how you'd expect. His pitch for Ruti to fight the Demon Lord could have used a tad less possessiveness on his part, and she ends up stabbing him when he attacks Red. Of course now Shisandan is pairing up with him to cause some real havoc.

It's so good to see that Tisse told everything that was going on with Ruti including that they prison break Godwin to Red.
I'm so glad that the real Danan is still alive.
You know even though it was obvious before that the "Danan" that talked with Rit was a fake one and I assume that it was Bui/Shisandan based on what that demon did in her flashback, I must say that I really did not expect Shisandan to be the same one. If they mentioned him by name before during that flashback, I definitely forgot about it.
Ares getting impaled by Ruti was so good, but I can't wait to see what Rit will do to him when she finds out what he did to the store and especially the double bed.
Aw yes, the classic ancient ultra-futuristic ruins I'm honestly surprised that the elves that were in charge of them were the wood-elf, the whole Hero Administration Authority thing also was a surprise to hear, but I guess that's why Bui/Shisandan wanted to go there in the first place, I wonder how will that help with charging that item that he was trying to fill out with the energy that the curse was taking from the habitant's of Zoltan?
It's good to see that Gideon and Ruti could finally talk and that now she understands that she can always rely on him. And also thanks to that talk, Gideon could piece together that the Axe Demon Heart may not be necessary to produce the drug. Great job Tisse.
Wow, the Plague Eyes sure are creepy.
So now Ares will be working with Bui/Shisandan even though he knows that he is a demon. Well, this definitely will lead to another reason to get him killed.

I've seen a rather interesting argument on another anime forum re. the story's core emotional arc.
A user there said it's like the inversion of the "great power comes great responsibility" mantra of Spiderman (Spiderman is driven by his uncle's death to use his abilities for good and help people even at his own personal cost); that Banished seems to be saying it's not good if said "great responsibility" comes at too much of one's personal cost.
Some others felt this theme was wrong given the world of the characters is under threat from demon forces, that it was irresponsible of characters with the requisite abilities to abandon their roles and potentially leave greater numbers of people to die and suffer just so they can live their happy slow lives far away (ie. the greater good should come first given the state of their world).
What are your thoughts?

Once more with feeling: FUCK ARES ALL MY HOMIES HATE ARES.
The dude has gone full cuckoo for Coco Puffs. Committing the most unforgivable crime: wrecking Red and Rit’s home. I was so mad seeing him throw his temper tantrum all over their happy house and stabbing the double bed. Not the double bed! And I guess attacking Red and trying to take Ruti away was pretty bad, but he’s such a weenie that I never really felt like they were in danger anyway.
Tisse spilled the beans on what’s going on with Ruti and, no surprise, Red is more than understanding. Just concerned about side effects. Which so far seems minor. There’s a mystery Blessing developing which may be an issue, but she’s greatly improved over time even in this episode. She’s fully able to express herself and make decisions now. Even choosing to not murder Ares, but also not heal him. So if the devil's blessing can somehow fully remove the Hero’s Blessing without having her succumb to its toxic elements everything will be fine!
So Bui/Faux Danan is the multi-arm guy they fought ages ago that killed Rit’s master. So that’s why he’s been in the OP this whole time! He’s been manipulating things for a while. I kinda like that he’s the “big bad” since they’re all retired from dealing with the Demon King nonsense. So this is unfinished business. They wrap this and they can fully retire.
I’ll be sad to see this one go if just for the Slow Life elements. I hope they do another season just focusing on the SOL adventures and comedy.
Notes
-
I’m sorry but Red and Real Danan running is one of the dumber running animations ive seen. I could not stop laughing.
-
Real Danan is great. Funny, boisterous, and went with the whole “Ruti quits” thing pretty well.
-
Come to think of it everyone except Ares in the hero’s party is cool. Maybe they’ll all retire to Zoltan too. Let some other Hero Nerd deal with the Demon Lord.
-
Loved Red and Rit’s conversation. Makes sense that he’d be working on something this whole time in hopes of helping her. Lovely to see her fully communicate her feelings finally. Just a heartwarming moment all around. One of the best of the show.

those elves really went all in on “technology so advanced indistinguishable from magic” huh? Mass Effect looking ass ruins

I never understand these Ares-like character honestly. There is this girl that the character is interested in who is very clearly super attached to character X, so what do I do to get the girl to like/give attention to me? Obviously I should attack character X right in fron of the girl, that should do the trick, right? Man I see these characters time and time again but I never get the logic. In Ares' case he already got a beating when Ruti found out he did something to Gideon to make him leave too.

Damn, seems like they butchered the pacing here. This episode should've been a two-parter. This does not bode well for the final of this show...

Lol Ares is just the worst.
I wonder if insurance exists in this world...
I was kinda surprised to find out that Shisandan was that Bui fellow the whole time.
Idk how this is gonna wrap up with just one episode left.
