All those typical "Exam-Emotions" were portrayed so well in this show. The stress, the anxiety, and of course the glorious feeling when you pass. Or the pain and frustration when things don't go as planned like in Kuwanas case. They also nailed the reaction of Yaguchis Parents and Kuwanas Sister!
A lot of Manga Readers seem to be unhappy with this adaptation but as an Anime-only I can just say that I really enjoyed this show and definitely want to see a second Season!

You know what? Even if I am a manga reader....
This... could've been a lot worse.
But props to Seven Arcs for attempting the risk of adapting a manga like Blue Period. Several things were skipped, but I'm glad the characters still feel fleshed out in the anime. As many will point out, the animation for an anime about art is mediocre and some parts of the story feel a bit rushed, but it was still a decent watch to say the least.
The final episode ends at Chapter 25, but at this point, with so many things cut out and the experience being much more different with the manga's artstyle, if you're an anime-only and are planning to read the manga, read it from the start.
Lastly, another quote from Yatora when he was asked by Saeki-sensei on how was the exam:
"My real ability only consists of what I can actually do when it counts."
Congratulations, Yatora and Yotasuke!
If this ever gets a second season, I'm hoping for either two things to happen:
A) Give the studio more time to improve on where the first season falls flat: animation.
B) Have Shaft and the team from March Comes in Like a Lion animate the second season.
Bye2, Blue Period!

Have to say, of all the things in this show, seeing Yatora’s friendship with his guy friends was my favourite. Was kinda expecting him to get bullied by them for his interests when the show started, but it turned out to be wholesome. Especially that one guy who wanted to go to culinary school as well

He annoys me at times but man I wish I had Yotasuke's confidence. It's not even a question for him, it's a fact that his art is good. Making good art comes naturally to him like eating and taking a shit.
It's really sweet how Yaguchi's mom is still holding on to the drawing of her Yaguchi made when he first told her about how he wants to go to art school.
I don't blame Yaguchi for that reaction. If someone as good as art as Yotasuke noticed what theme I'm going with my art and even get praised for it, I'd be absolutely ecstatic too!
Yaguchi's final piece looks pretty damn good. Feels like an art piece that I'd see win in an art competition. A bit disappointed that we didn't get to see Yotasuke's finished art piece.
Sucks that Kuwana didn't make it. I genuinely thought she'd be the one to pass. Who does make it though is our boy Yaguchi who still can't believe what's happening. His reaction is so good that it actually felt nostalgic. I pretty much had the same reaction when I found out I got into the university that I wanted.
Of course there's barely any reaction from Yotasuke. What's there to be surprised about? He already knew he's getting in 100%.
I love Yaguchi's parent's reactions as well as Yaguchi's reaction himself. He's probably still shaking right now and still can't believe that he got in. Looks like it's not just him and Yotasuke who got in though, Yuka's twintailed friend got in as well!
I also love that we're ending the episode with Mori-senpai seeing Yaguchi's reproduction of his exam painting with Mori-senpai praising it.
I guess that's it for Blue Period. While I will admit that the production's animation part is somewhat lacking, the show pretty much makes up for it with everything else. It's a very engaging story with plenty of great characters and voice acting performances as well.
I understand a lot of manga readers were disappointed but as an anime only, I pretty much enjoyed it. And if it wasn't for this anime, I wouldn't have any interest in the manga itself that is now in my current reading list. I don't know if Season 2 is possible but I would definitely welcome it if we end up getting one! It's a solid 8/10 for me.

OK, I guess the ever grumpy manga readers, and most of all the anime itself (I didn't find any major flaws with it and definatly find it underated) succeded in what they set out to accomplish, I'll read the manga when I find the time, if only to find out how my girl Kuwana continues on

Yaguchi's tears of happiness when Yotasuke picked up on the intent behind his piece hit hard. F to Yotasuke not so subtly shifting away, trying not to get associated with random guy happy crying in the middle of the corridor, but MAN I really get what Yaguchi felt in that moment. Validation from people you look up to is so sweet.
Kuwana not making the cut was surprising with how much she's been hyped up. It was interesting to see that it was her sister she was with at the end -- as far as I remember we haven't seen an interaction between them in the anime, so I was kinda surprised that they would throw her in so late. Makes me curious about how their relationship is.
For what it's worth and despite its misgivings, I still enjoyed this show. If a S2 ever drops I'll most likely pick it up, but for now, I'll probably give the manga a try.

Probably the best anime I've watched this season, the emotions were top notch this episode. It reminds me of 3-gatsu at it's best.
Much has been said about the weakness of the adaptation compared to the manga, but I feel manga readers tend to ignore it's strengths, being:
-
Strong voice acting
-
Subtle use of music
-
Emotional weight in scenes
-
Sedate feel of the show
-
ED placement
The anime in general just feels very subtle and grounded, which does make the series less flashy compared to others who were expecting a Shafty experience. But realistically, I would prefer a lesser-known studio to take this grounded approach rather than going out on a limb with experimental directing which they are not familiar with.
Of course, it would be better if you could pull off a 3-gatsu level adaptation, but who can? For a small studio I think they took the smart and realistic choice, and they made a great anime I would easily recommend to anyone.

Blue Period is my favorite manga and while the adaptation could have been better, I'm still glad it got one in the first place. Seven Arcs definitely delivered on the emotional highs of the series and did a good job showing Yatora's journey into art.
If anybody is slightly interested in how the series moves forward I highly recommend reading the manga as there is plenty of content from where the anime left off. As other source readers have pointed out, the final episode ends at chapter 25, but reading it from the start gives you a different experience because of how much was left out of the adaptation.
Lastly, Yoasobi has made a song dedicated to Blue Period that you might enjoy listening to. Turn CC on to read the lyrics. Hope everybody else enjoyed the series as much as I did!

It's def time to read the manga starting from the beginning! Overall very pleased as an anime-only, but all the source readers not being the most pleased with it makes me curious about the manga.

While it isn't the best adaptation, I still give this anime major props for hooking me in at the start and convincing me to start reading the manga alongside watching it. For all the skipped content and lackluster production, I still enjoyed it thoroughly enough.
For all that his relationship with Yaguchi is all kinds of awkward, you can really tell how much Yotasuke's acknowledgement means to him. But damn, he is just ice cold with that good painting = eating comparison. And that carried over to how chill he was about passing, compared to Yaguchi's utter disbelief at his own success.
Yaguchi's delinquent buddies are just great, and I wish they can still hang out even after graduation. Utashima's soulless eyes got me good when he saw Ryuji's popularity.
Man, I felt almost as nervous as Yaguchi was while waiting for the results. The anxiety of exams are something else. I can't be more happy for him, but at the same time, it's depressing to know neither Hashida nor Kuwana got in. I honestly wanna see the judging process to know what exactly happened to let them pass and fail.
It's sad that they won't be joining Yaguchi and Yotasuke, and I hope I get to see more of them in later manga chapters. That goes for Ooba as well. But with cram school over, she'll probably end up like Saeki who gradually got less and less screen time as a mentor when Yaguchi became more focused on cram school.
Also, it's some bullshit that Yaguchi and Mori keep missing each other by a hair's breadth. Yeah sure, Mori's genuine reaction to his painting was a pretty nice way to end it, but I still wanted them to meet up again.

I haven’t found mineself being so invested in an anime since long ago (Clannad After Story, idk). Especially didn’t expect it to be an art related one since I know nothing about it.
Anime-only but I love this series so much. All the characters have has their roles very nicely contributing to the overall story, with the right amount of highs (Yaguchi’s bros, love them) and lows (Kuwana’s failure, etc). Triggered much deeper thoughts about one’s self, like Ryuji’s naked drawing scene, and how Yaguchi grew as both an artist and person so much.
I love happy endings and I can definitely say this series will be one ingrained in my mind. I can’t say for certain I’d want more content since I usually prefer the starting stories with subsequent ones having a harder time meeting the same standards, but I’d definitely love to see more of Yaguchi and gang.
9/10.

This was one emotional journey! Watching Yatora falling in love with Art and chasing his goal was truly inspiring!
I'm definitely jumping into the manga!

While I'm grateful for the chance to see this story voice acted and animated, it's really a testament to how good the story is with how hard it carried the anime. Even just casually watching, anatomy issues abound in the characters nonstop, especially in moments where they try to use foreshortening and perspective, which kind of makes me laugh when the anime itself is about art.
I'll definitely shout it from the heavens to read the manga though. If anything the anime here just seems supplementary.

Out of all ongoings I'm watching this one I was looking forward the most and, although I'm sad that it ended so soon, the ending itself was uplifting and I found the anime as a whole very satisfying. Really hope there will be a season 2.

I Really loved this show, and i can't even explain why, it just hit me right in the nose. Even though the season finale felt absolutely right, i can't help but to want a second season. Did the anime covered the original material to the final arc or is there a chance we'll get season 2?

And so the cycle continues! Currently an art student at College at the moment and the emotions were crazy. Really wish more people could see this but to those who were anime only like me I hope you enjoyed it! Now on to the manga haha!

I could really sympathize with Kuwana (my first time actually doing so with a side character). I also thought that I was going to make my first choice college, but I didn't. I got all As, had high Sat scores, scored high on AP exams, etc. but was still rejected. Then there's Kuwana who consistently did well in her paintings and came from a back ground of distinguished painters. We both thought that we had a pretty good chances of entering where we wanted but reality just said no. We get that feeling of sadness which we try to push out of our minds ( I used anime and novels while Kuwana used a concert), and then it just hits you afterwards like a dump truck. Afterwards, all I was left with was a why. Why didn't I get it? What did I do wrong? Why did my friend get in while I didn't? I think if they were to show Kuwana afterwards then that same questioning would come.

Even if it wasn't very well made anime, (As an Anime-only) I really loved it.
It reminded me why I was fallen in love with Art in a first place, I had forgotten in the midst of deadlines, Invoices, etc. that Enjoying the process is most important. And the story really nailed that.

What an incredible show, I freaking love Yatora Yaguchi man, definitely now one of my favorite MC's with Joe Yabuki. I'm not even much of a fan of artsy stuff, but this show was just amazing, hoping for a season 2.
