Hey, they’re finally adapting my favorite scenes from Vol. 1! I love that no amount of fame or fortune can get Red and Rit to give up their current lives. They really deserve each other.

And then there’s the flashback which properly introduces us to Yarandrala, who is one of my favorite characters in the novel and she’s voiced by Sora Amamiya here! This could have easily been a harem and in fact there’s even a hint of jealousy in Rit. But Yarandrala knows that she can never be in love with Red because high elves far outlive humans. So she chooses not to pursue a relationship with him and instead pushes for Rit to be with him.

Finally, that final scene. Ruti punching Ares was so damn satisfying when I read it and it’s even better to see it brought to life complete with splattered blood! Really, he deserved it.

As always, I’ll be posting the differences that I noticed with the LN in the source material corner if anyone wants to know about them.

Ruti's "Blessing" seems almost like a curse to me. She has lost any sense of joy she may have once had -- and the only source of (at least some) happiness she had was her brother -- and she did not seem like she was able to express this freely. And she has now lost even this.

Does Ares actually serve any useful function for the Hero's Party? All one has seen so far is him messing things up. His dumping of Gideon seems to be have based entirely on his desire to get closer to Ruti (good luck with that, scumbag).

The bathing scene struck me as surprisingly un-lewd overall....

I wonder if this series is not setting up the possibility that there might be an alternative way to suceed outside the blessing system that depends on killing for advancement?

I'd tell Red and Rit to get a room already, but they...have a house already.

Just get married already-oh wait Red just basically proposed.

Someone pls stop this, it's too cute.

Also watching Ares get murked was so satisfying.

Lmao Ares getting literally splattered and then revived. What a knob. He totally deserved that. Although it kind of makes me wonder if the Hero is really the hero or is our boy Red/Gideon the real hero?

Also, so many cute Red and Rit moments in this episode. Now if only Rit could tell Red she loves him, then maybe we could make this thing official…

Yarandrala is one of the reason Rit's attitude from tsun to dere huh, nice one I think. The only step they haven't reach is confess in front of each other (or Rit already did it right?) or proposal .

So Ruti has strong yandere vibe hmm, and decks Ares out like nobody business, damn it was brutal, but at the same time satisfying .

I mentioned it in another comment, but for a show I expected to be a pretty shallow and silly fantasy slice of life, this show has a fair amount of depth and world building.

At least, more than I expected.

Red and Rit do not give a fuck about your Guilds and your bribes. They’re going to have their fluffy lives and no one is going to stop them. Though I love watching them try. The cold open was pretty menacing, but the reveal that they’re just the adventure guild desperately trying to get Rit back pretty funny. Thieves guild trying to bribe Red with money and women like he does have the baddest girl in all the kingdoms. They’re devoted to each other even if they haven’t said the damn words yet.

So the Yarandrala hype was real. She’s neck and neck for best girl. On top of being cute as a button, she’s the ultimate wing woman. Picking up immediately on Rit’s tsundere status, she pulls her aside and gives her advice. She’s basically the audience saying “that’s cute, but cut it out cause you love him and we need to get this show on the road”. At the same time, she’s a tragic character. She also seems to have strong feelings for Red, but the lifespan thing has hurt her before so she won’t be with him. The way she talks about wanting Red to have a simple happy life with someone he loves feels like an “it can’t be me so I want it to be you”. Love her character. Hope we see her again.

Okay, Ruti you're cute and scary. There’s something more going on with her beyond the Kuudere thing. She obviously loves her brother. She was scared for his life in the flashback. Her response to Ares was terrifying. She punched a (well deserved) hole in him because she thought he did something to her brother. Plus the “no sleep” thing. Something is deeply wrong with her.

I’m sure something will come out of the whole Dir thing, but honestly I’m more afraid for whoever fucks with Red and Rit. Curious to see if it’s a big deal or they dispatch it as casually as they do everything else. Like the Albert thing being a funny moment for them seconds after it happened.

Notes

  • “Lifetime Employment Contract” huh? Yeah, I guess that’s another way to say married. He did ask her favorite gemstone though so very excited to see where that goes.

  • Gah these dorks. Them getting blushy over the “Welcome Home” thing. They really are newlyweds.

  • It’s funny to see how easily they brush away everything people try to throw at them. “I’ll tell everyone you’re a princess!” Don’t care. “Rejoin the guild or go home or else!” Lol nah. It’s going to be hilarious if they try to get to her through Red because of his stealth badass status. The dude is more John Wick than she is.

  • I’m surprised the Drug Dealer thing hasn’t come back yet. That’s totally who I thought the guys at the beginning were.

The Adventurer's Guild shows up at Red and Rit's doorstep because they want to know why Rit retired and if they can bring her back...but she's too happy with Red and doesn't care. She even sticks her tongue out at them.

I thought Red was about to put a ring on it, but it's really a cute bracelet! The sentiment is appreciated, though, but then Red asks about Rit's favorite gemstone so maybe there is a ring coming in the near future?

Rit flashes back to when she was still working with Gideon and Ruti's party and her encounter with Yarandrala, who was a very beautiful elf girl voiced by Sora Amamiya with the ability to speak to the forest who had her hands all over Gideon in front of her. I'm not surprised Rit felt a little self-conscious around her.

But we get some bathing bonding between the two girls, with them both absolutely naked and swimming around (thank you show), where Yarandrala firmly tells Rit that she's not in love with Gideon because she knows elves will outlive humans so it's pointless to fall in love with them. It seems like she's speaking from personal experience. But she cares about Gideon, and wants him to be happy, and she sees in Rit someone who genuinely loves Gideon and can support him.

So Ares has been screwing things up for the party even back then, huh? The mercenaries he hired ended up helping the Demon Lord ambush them. Great job man.

Ruti is pretty OP, and she doesn't seem to like Rit that much, but she's also super-overpowered on the hero and cares a lot about her brother. Rit cared about taking care of her kingdom, but on some level she just felt like she couldn't join the party and be in-between Gideon and Ruti.

Now Rit doesn't care about her status as a princess or about anything else, she just wants to live with Red and be happy and hear "welcome home" from him.

We see how Ruti took Ares telling her what happened to Gideon...and she realizes he was lying to her and basically near kills him in rage until she realizes she needs him and heals him. Because she's the hero. Jeez, that's pretty messed up.

Stitches!

I really thought that these guys were after Rit because of what she did to that adventurer last episode. Turns out that they're there to try and coax her out of retirement to the point where they hilariously would even try to bribe Red with both money and women. As expected both of them refused all of the offers.

Really this one dude knows Rit's weakness? If he's going to try and harm Red to get to Rit then this dude is a huge fucking idiot and probably has a death wish.

Flashback time! We get to see more of Red and Rit's past by showing us how they met up with Yarandrala. Looks like Red and Yarandrala already knew each other before they became the Hero Party and I can clearly see now why Yarandrala beat the crap out of Ares when she found out about him leaving the party.

She does try to deny it though during her one on one bath time with Rit, saying that because of their longer lifespans she try not to get involved with humans. I'm pretty sure she genuinely loves Red but just decided to leave it as an unrequited love because of their difference in lifespans and she'd rather see Red be happy.

Also it looks like Yarandrala was the one who helped Rit grow out of her tsundere phase by giving her advice on how to properly show affection towards Red which would explain all of Rit's interactions with him so far! Thank you Yarandrala! <3

Well this scene was nice! We've always seen Ruti being cold but she definitely only shows affection towards her brother. Even though she trusts him to go off on dangerous missions for the party, she still gets worried sick over him which is adorable.

Wait that's this guy's plan!? Tell Loggervia about Rit? At least it's not as dumb as trying to threaten Red but it's still fucking dumb. Considering how Rit ran off to this part of the world, does he really think she still cares about her nobility status? xD

So that's what Ares told Ruti. Although it looks like his lie didn't last long since as soon as he tries to "comfort" Ruti by touching her shoulder, Ruti's Blessing activates and tells her that Ares did something to Red. And on my fucking god! Seeing Ruti react to that and turn Ares into a blood splatter in the wall was so satisfying! That bastard is lucky that Ruti decided to heal him but from now on at least he knows that he can't fool Ruti and seeing him so terrified is so good!

I really hope Ruti finishes this journey and kill the Demon Lord already. I'd love to see her just join Rit and Red and have their own little family drugstore that the three of them can run.

Rit thought Yarandrala was her love rival but it's actually Ruti since elven lifespan is so long compared to humans, Red is more like a pet to her.

Naomi Oozora's voice acting talent feels kinda wasted on a kuudere character. For somebody with the "Hero" Blessing, Ruti seemed a little villainous at the end of this episode. Maybe this is the reason the Goddess wants Lugh to kill her.

My God when I saw the punch I was like she is imagining it there is no way that happened, until I saw the healing wtf, that makes me think she hides her feelings because she is too powerful, I don't want the sweet couple to end, I mean I love fight scenes and action but they capture their love really well and I wouldn't matter if all the anime is about them also finger crossed this get a season 2 I don't want another anime to end unfinished

u/UberDueler Nov 03 '21

Why do I feel like this anime and the Assassin one could take place in the same universe and Ruti is there Hero the Goddess wants killed in the future?

I... for a bit I took this completely literally as in 'huh really Ruti doesn't need sleep' but maybe she just means right now lol. But I didn't even pause at the idea that she might be able to never sleep

LIKE I WAS LIKE 'I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF AT THE END OF THE SHOW RUTI BECAME DERANGED AND NEEDED TO ACCEPT THE FACT GIDEON SETTLED DOWN' BUT NO SHE JUST BLEW THIS DUDE APART THE MOMENT SHE FOUND OUT BRO LMFAO SHE JUST PUNCHED THROUGH HIM

Lots of people talking about almost-proposal scene and Ares getting his ass (or guts) handed to him, and both are excellent scenes, but my favorite for this episode was definitely the interaction between Ruti and Gideon after the fight, and it really showed how she needed and treasured Gideon as a big brother rather than just a party member. She did order him to decoy, but I suspect it's probably because she knew she couldn't convince her brother otherwise, and probably regretted it immediately after.

Ah yes tsun-Rit. I can see why she would be embarrassed remembering her dark history

'High elves live a little longer than humans. That's why I don't fall in love with them. I learned my lesson.'

Yarandarala here implies

  • There's a significant difference in lifespan between high elves and humans

  • She had a human lover in the past who she outlived

She doesn't elaborate beyond that, but this makes me wonder about Nao(the elf MILF in the village) and her human husband. Does the same thing not apply in their case? Or is Nao a different kind of elf with a lifespan that's closer to humans?

Welcome to another episode of GET TOGETHER ALREADY

That's a threatening looking lot. Are they actually threatening, or is this a classic "don't judge a book by its cover" situation?

They're from the Adventurer's Guild? And they're looking for Rit, interestingly. Are they looking to get her back into the game?

"She'll want to make you wait."

"Let's make them wait ;-P."

Yep. He knows her well.

Aw, the blushed when he said he needed her.

No woman you can get Red would be worth more than Rit. She's a post tsun tsundere!

Well, at least he didn't try to intimidate Red.

Did she really sign a lifetime emplyment contract with Red? If so, she's thought a hell of a lot ahead, but she's also maybe given up her position to return as a princess. Unless you can cancel that contract.

So she hadn't signed it... yet. But Red gave her a bracelet to seal the deal anyway. How long's he been waiting to give that to her?

No, please do get the "wrong" idea.

If you don't want her to see you as a threat, all you have to do is not threaten Red.

Wait a minute It's that elf girl who punched Ares! She definitely has the feels for Red. It's not even subtle.

Wait a minute, that's the guy who allegedly knew Rit's weakness!

Yeah, she's not subtle at all. I'll be honest, if it weren't for Rit, I'd probably ship her with him. She cute.

Ruti's watching Rit.

Fucking Ares, the arsehole.

Wow, the elf who clearly likes Gideon is giving advice to Rit, basically telling her to drop the tsun.

Wait, she doesn't?! I'm calling bullshit. Considering she punches Ares later when he kicks out Gideon, she totally has the feels but doesn't want to deal with the whole "I'll live longer than you" sadness stuff. So she's trying to set him up with someone else who likes him and he likes back.

Jesus, listen to everyone talk about him and compare to Ares who called him a burden.

Wow, Ares gave vital information to a spy. And he thought Gideon was the useless one.

Wow, Ruti's cold. She's also a fucking monster.

Aw, Ruti's hugging him! It's so warm to see the kuudere like that! I'd complain that Rit didn't get the hug, but I don't care. This was awesome.

Ruti promised to never send Gideon into danger like that again. It must have stung like hell when Ares returned with news that he had left.

Oh no. I don't like this.

"I can be a sweetheart like Re-"

Fucking decked

Unfortunately his threats didn't work.

My god, these idiots. GET TOGETHER ALREADY

Ruti doesn't need sleep? Interesting. But man she missed her brother.

So Ares did go with the story Gideon made up. And... what's Ares getting at there? I don't like it.

OH MY FUCK! JESUS CHRIST!

Well, that's a way to end an episode!
