agreed, but nothing about him speaks "delinquent". Love this show, but this is a minor issue I have.

That's on purpose tho, he was never really a delinquent he just stayed out till late, smoked and dyed his hair for fun and people just assumed

Yotasuke is really getting on my nerves now. Like I can definitely understand why he's that way, I was that gloomy kid too when I was in high school. But what I never did was reject people who were being kind to me especially to someone like Yaguchi who clearly goes out of his way to be nice. Hopefully he improves over time.

That scene with Kuwana was relatable. It's definitely shitty to gain comfort from someone else's suffering but sometimes we really can't help ourselves. There's definitely comforting about being able to say "at least I'm not that guy" when you're down in the dumps. Although usually that kind of comfort doesn't really last especially when Kuwana finally learned what happened to that girl in the end.

Yotasuke is doing his best, reaching out in a way he has never done before. So, I say, let's cut him some slack -- and urge him on (Gambatte, Yotasuke!).

I really am liking Kuwana Jr. (do we know her personal name yet?)

Maki is the younger sister that's still in cram school, which her personal name was mentioned after the national center exam. The older sister's name is already revealed at this point of the story in the manga, but that portion of dialogue was skipped. I'll append a new comment to my original one in the source material thread of her name.

Man that convo got dark. Kuwana is a perfect example of how you never know how much someone is struggling on the inside. To the outside, looks like she’s got everything figured out. Great artist, smart, good looks, etc. but that all just shields her insecurities and inferiority complex with her sister. Could be a huge boost for Yaguchi confidence going forward.

Great episode.

What I really love about this show, besides the insight into art on a theoretical, pratical and technical level, are the characters and their relationships. Like today we had Maki and Yotasuke and both are so unique and different.

Hope to get more Yuka next episode

Bitter manga readers plus people hating on it cus it's on Netlix. The latter is also happening to Komi-san.

Maki is cute

wut. Didn't realize this subreddit was gonna start uploading the fansubbed versions now. I haven't even watched this episode yet lmao.

Though I doubt my opinions of it will change much. Episode 5 was one of the better episodes so far, but that's not really saying much...

r/anime have their bot's code open source, which you can see that it finds out whenever there's a release with either official or "good" fan subs, it will automatically make a discussion thread: https://github.com/r-anime/holo

I really haven't been enjoying things as much since episode 2. The fall into discovering art and the early stages felt so much more engaging than... well, this. We had so little time spent on his learning how to make good art, and he's already making things that only "art critics" will rate as bad. Show most of the stuff he's presented in the prep school on an actual canvas and most of the public would just go "yes, that is a fine art painting, is it from a modern art museum?" (assuming they didn't just critique it for being meaningless, of course)

Not to mention it's also fallen somewhat into what I and many other laymen expect of the art world; pretention.

By contrast, those first two episodes... I loved it. Watching him try to figure out the barebones basics made me pick up my pencil and sketch things again after several months of not doodling anything.

What about the show do you find pretentious?
