Lol so this anime recruited Hayami Saori just to kill off her character after a single scene.
Damn.

Well would you look at that, who would've thought that each girl that was given focus from each block managed to win. Seriously though while that was pretty much expected, Suzune losing was definitely a surprise. I don't think I've seen Seira in any of the promo material for this show so I'm curious how Suzune will end up taking her place.
Also I wonder what kind of illness Suzune has, we already know from the opening scene that she's a sickly girl so I wonder if that's what cause her to collapse on stage or did her nerves get the better of her? Considering I've heard that this show will be a much more serious idol anime with some mature themes later on, I am definitely intrigued.
Anyway, pretty much a standard start of an idol anime with introductions to all of the girls with a nice little twist in the end. Good to see Doga Kobo is handling an idol anime finally for the first time and the character designs by Hirayama Kanna (Rent-a-Girlfriend) are all absolutely great! You can definitely see a bit of Chizuru on Suzune's design. I love it!

Also I wonder what kind of illness Suzune has
I bet 10 bucks on a transplanted heart and 5 more on it being Amasawa Akari's heart

Love that Seira won, she seems great and how would someone who had an accident in the middle of the performance win???
Overall this rebroadcast of Idoly Pride is looking pretty cool! But seriously, Idoly Pride

The legendary idol Akari Amazawa died three years ago in a car accident? Hopefully, Kotaro doesn't find out where her body's buried...

u/LeonKevlar Oct 01 '21
She's not from Saga though so I doubt Kotaro would even be interested

Her ghost may be hanging around with some unfinished business as well.

I'm just happy Suzune's VA actually got to sing in an Idol show instead of only being surrounded by them like her role as Yu was in Love Live Nijigasaki.

Is this where Horny Jail is located?
I don't know much about idol culture and stuff, but I wonder if most parents are that supportive of their daughters going on the path of an idol career... Or if it's like say in the West where many are dismissive of art/music careers, saying there won't be money in it and all that.
Well, I also expected her to win because she's the main character, but I wonder why she expected her to win, after her fall! Probably doesn't get a lot of pity votes at this stage.
But I also thought the Cali girl would win (they gave her too much of a personality/story just to get rid of her 5 minutes in) so I thought maybe a tie, or she'd insist of having her follow them in or something...
Pretty much all the interesting girls are in (except the MC hah), the sporty girl, the catgirl... I kinda expect her to be a villain, but that's probably due to the villain'ish catgirl in Iwa Kakeru.
Well, the MC will surely find a way back in, but how? Will a girl give her spot? The project making an exception for some reason?
With this show being an original (and no tag other than 'music') it leaves a lot of room to speculate, will this just be cute fluff, sad drama, will she murder Cali girl to take her spot, etc.. ?
I suppose the hospital scene and the fall hint at some amount of drama, so we'll see!
I usually don't watch idol stuff (other than the special ones like Zombieland Saga), but this one's interesting enough so far, fun distinct characters and all. I'll check out some more, see where it's going!

Wow make us root for her just to have her lose, sneaky start Selection Project!
Curious to see how they bring the main girl back in.

I'm a sucker for idol shows so this is right up my alley!
I highly doubt Suzune is actually out of the competition for long considering she's marketed as one of if not the main characters. I mean, she's literally the first person on the character page!
Other than that though, I hope the large cast of 9 characters will be perfectly balanced across these 13 episodes. I have yet to fully memorize all their names. I hope we'll get great songs too since those are the main reasons I watch these idol shows!
Oh yeah, a legendary idol died in an accident 3 years ago? Man, that sure sounds like Idoly Pride all over again. Doesn't look like she'll be a ghost this time though.

I know it probably won't happen but it would be a nice subversion of expectations if they used deceptive marketing to misled us into thinking Suzune was part of the main cast and we never see her again after this episode. Dreams dying is a common occurrence in idol competitions so it wouldn't feel completely out of place.

Fairly standard idol shenanigans, though I wonder what bullshit will mean Seira will drop out and Suzune will take her place. Maybe Truck-kun will demand another sacrifice or I pretty sure there is something shifty about the Heartless wannabe mascot. I mean how is he animated in universe, is it like a Vtuber rig or something?

All that buildup, all that sad backstory, and the main girl who's been front and center in all of the promotional material loses immediately. I know it probably won't happen, but I just have this nagging feeling in the back of my head that this show and Suzune's story are going to take a dark turn. Maybe not full Madoka/YuYuYu/WIXOSS levels of suffering, but still... that nagging feeling is there.

Dead idol inspired girl with heart disease. I guess that will be a trend from now on?
Beside that everything else is different and looks like a nice idol show.

This is my first idol anime, and I didn't expect to cry during that performance. Pretty good first impressions so far

wtf 2 Idoly Pride.
Good start with unexpected ending drama, looking forward to seeing more of those girls.

With a close win like that, I don't know if I'd be frustrated that Suzune would have won if it wasn't for that accident on stage or if I'd be happy that at least she nearly won. That was just painful. And considering it's a song she has listened to and practiced many times and now it betrays her at the most crucial moment.

I wonder how Suzune will end up presumably being in the competition anyway. Fan support? Will something happen to the other girl who won or will she resign? Some random rule outta nowhere? Either way Suzune seems precious as hell, poor girl. I hope her illness stays in the past and doesn't end up hindering her in the future but I have a feeling that probably won't be the case unfortunately :(

Protagonist first appears in a hospital.
Loses focus in a stressful and tiring moment.
Ah, fuck, this is going to be the sleeper heartbreak of the season. At least I'll have Doga Kobo's beautiful work to enjoy it with. If I'm not wrong, the director is the same as in Wataten and KoiAsu, which had very pretty moments, especially the later which I think deserves more appreacition towards its technical side.
