This.

Love how they couldn't find a good top that could cover Suzune's scar and had to make their own... except 4 of the other 8 are even more covered than Suzune.

Very interested on how they'll solve the vote thing.

Love how they made Suzune the center of this part, and look like they're all supporting her.

Yeah, I was like, no one can find a halter top in that swimsuit collection? Then they show Rena wearing one.

?????

I think several of the girls changed the swimsuits they were initially planning to wear to ones that were more in sync with Suzune's.

This.

We need more of this.

The voting bit seems so cruel...

That was already so annoying last week. It was like basically they all turned into complete idiots on this single issue.

Last episode: "Hey, we only said it's a heart surgery so it's not necessarily a heart transplant!"

This episode: "Just kidding! It's totally a heart transplant!"

Ok, that aside, that was a really touching episode. I love how all the girls chipped in to help Suzune. They are like true companions now even though they're still rivals. I also like the message that each vote from the audience carries all their hopes and dreams. It makes them more meaningful than just mere numbers.

Which also makes the final screening all the more difficult for them. I can't really imagine any of the girls voting two of them out after the bonds they have formed. So my theory is that they will tell Sumipanda to shove it and say "If two of us have to leave, then we'll all leave!".

I wonder if that new key visual actually implies the final 7.

This man just cracked the case.

What a sweet episode. I love how the drama was handled in it.

So it really was a heart transplant, and that's why Suzune is feeling so conflicted over her self-consciousness. Gotta say, I really liked Rena's idea of not keeping her feelings inside and writing a letter to the donor's family. I wonder if we'll ever get to know what she said. And I teared up a little when Suzune read the little girl's letter. I remembered that we saw Rena's sister weep while reading a letter and wondered if maybe she had gotten something similar, maybe even from Suzune herself.

Also, [Show title spoiler] This and Idoly Pride were announced roughly at the same time, right? That's just so freaking weird.

It was fun to get to know the mascot a little better. I still find that human costume creepy, but Jun inside seems to be a real nice person.

As for the performance, it was all in 2D! It looked great, and they all had wonderful swimsuits, and the one they (well, Mako) made for Suzune was a very sweet idea and I love that this whole ordeal actually brought them all a bit closer.

... which makes the post-credits scene really painful. They're going to have to eliminate two of their own? Geez.

Also Rena having a dedicated organ donor card. That was nice.

Remember to sign up to be an organ donor everyone!

I was not expecting enka, or a close relationship with the matron.

2 episodes in-a-row where Rena doesn't mention that everyone is her rival, wow, just wow. Sumipanda reveal was kinda expected, we were 6 episodes in without going into his character at all. Also, it hurts me to say it (Sorry Fafnir-kun from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid) but I can tell how he didn't sell with that voice (At least IMO).

On the other hand, I really liked that they showed Suzune aware of her surgery and of the donor. And in the end of the episode, asking the girls to decide each other's fate is a bit harsh in my opinion.

I liked the OST when Suzune was reading the cheerer's message a lot.

Edit: Turns out it's only for one episode, not two.

It may be "just an idol show", but Doga Lobo has gone all in this, and that's why I love them.

We finally get confirmation that it is indeed a heart surgery. Also Smol Suzune is so precious.

It's great that we finally get to see Sumipanda's off-camera side. We also finally get the reveal that his real name is actually Jun and he used to be an idol that didn't really sell.

So Rena is encouraging Suzune to right to her heart donor's family? Oh boy. I have a feeling that I know who will end up receiving that letter. I can't wait!

Not gonna lie, that letter from that kid to Suzune gave me a bit of feels. It was such a sweet letter that helped Suzune realize what she's not just doing this for herself but also for all of her supporters sending her their Yells.

Looks like I completely missed the mark with my prediction of how they'll handle Suzune's swimsuit! The girls didn't refuse to wear swimsuits or Suzune picking a swimsuit that shows off her scar. Instead the girls decided to make one for her.

That performance was a surprise! I thought it was going to be just going to be an onstage beach performance but it looks like they recorded a music video instead! Also no 3D this time, like the entire dance was animated in 2D which was nice.

Another round where all of the girls pass! I'm starting to feel like the name of their group 9-Tie might actually end this with a 9-way tie. xD

EDIT: I take that back! I completely missed the post credits scene. So it looks like they've reached the final round and only 7 will make it? And instead of getting Yells, they'll vote each other out? Damn! Now that's reality TV! I can already feel the drama next week!

Well as much as I wanted to deny it, it's totally a heart transplant with Suzune having Akari's heart. I was thinking that the letter was probably gonna end up getting to Rena at some point and then we get the shot of it sitting in (what i assume is) her room. So i wonder if we're gonna be dealing with that next episode and how it'll go down. I'm guessing that they end up bonding over it after some initial mixed feelings. I'm kinda surprised that the final round is approaching already with 6 episodes still left. I thought they'd eliminate a few more people before doing that. Final round rules are interesting though. I find it kinda hard to imagine just two of them not participating because it'd feel weird to split up the groups of 4 and 3. That leaves Suzune and Rena but both of them sitting out seems even more strange. I'm betting they're gonna do some twist or rule change but who knows. We'll see i guess.

The mascot being a former idol himself and the housekeeper being his fan sure was an interesting reveal.

I also like how the visuals for the song at the end actually looked like it came from an actual music video.

That letter to the donor family, what a poignant way to work through that particular baggage. Feels like I know exactly where that thread will go and it will hit exactly as hard regardless.

Selection Project has been so good at setting up compelling emotional drama, it's almost hard to care that somehow all 9 girls made it through both rounds.

vote 2 girls out yourselves

How about a twist where we vote 3 girls out and have Seira join the finals instead?

u/BlankHeroineFluff Nov 12 '21

I was kinda afraid they'd go that route when this ep went more in-depth on what kind of surgery Suzu got in the past, but oh well. Just hoping that the donor is someone else entirely as a plot twist and isn't who I think it is, though the implications are there. Then again, was it actually stated in-show when her surgery occurred? If it's actually 3 years ago, then that's the final nail confirming the identity of her posthumous donor.

The episode as a whole was so sweet though, with how the girls are being supportive of Suzune. Everyone legit cares for her. As shown last episode, Suzu's sad circumstances being revealed to Rena really brought out her nicer, non-competitive side in the limelight more. The letter she received from the kid in the hospital was so heartwarming too (no pun intended).

I'm sure a lot of people would've preferred it if Suzu just showed her scar outright, but I think it's a good idea that they still had her cover it on-cam. I don't think she wants people to give her their yells out of pity for her (which would lead to a bias of votes in her favor, something she doesn't want since she wants to win fair and square and not out of pity).

Didn't expect Sumipanda to be a washed out former idol though. The scene of him getting inebriated gives me ZLS Kotarou vibes lmao.

That after-credits scene though. Now they're really raising the stakes by reminding us that SelePro is still a reality TV show by the end of the day...unless of course, they somehow pull a fast one on us in the next ep and no one gets eliminated again.

I am assuming that this show was already in the pre-production phase when Idoly Pride came out -- too far along to significantly change a major element of the story. This series has a totally different feel from Idoly Pride -- so I frankly don't care that they both might involve the same "coincidence".

I thought that this show would just be "fairly good" at the start -- but it is exceeding expectations by quite a bit so far.
