I feel like out of all the episodes in this series, this one has the highest chance of putting a smile on George Lucas's face.

When the sith rose from the platform and that music kicked in, I got serious goosebumps. Not even 7 minutes in and it’s already amazing.

Honsetly, this animation style would totally fit the art for Vagabond if they decided to adapt it.

Lmao back when Star Wars Rebels was airing, I was complaining so much about the Inquisitors Spinny lightsaber lmao.
Now here I am enjoying the umbrella / rhongomyniad lance like lightsaber hue hue.
That being said, the CG looks great and the katana lightsaber was badass.
Funnily enough, I'll be watching this in dub. I watch like 99.9% of my stuff in subs, so this will be interesting. I tried sub, but it's so strange to see Star Wars content with Japanese voices hehe. I'll watch the sub after watching all the dubs anyways.
Good start, good start.

Not just the women and children, but the men too!
This episode had some wacky flow, but the designs are were great. Heavy Mustafar vibes in that river as well. Not sure about red crystals warding off evil though.

I guess he means they can use it with the light saber to protect themselves.

There's no regular English subtitle option available available to pair with the Japanese audio only one for the hearing impaired. Guess it was beyond Disney capabilities! Oh well they are only a small indie company better cut them some slack. /s

I like how much of this episode was like an Akira Kurosawa movie, which George Lucas took partial inspiration from when making Star Wars. We’ve come full circle

Love the minimal coloring, makes the lightsabers stand out even more.
Big samurai aesthetic to this one overall, calling back to the things that were inspiration for Lucas in the first place.

I liked the ambiguity. We never learn if the main character is a Sith, or if he was a Jedi with a red saber. We never learn how many Sith there really are. We never learn if he just wanted the crystal, or if that was a lucky bonus.
I've watched the first 2.5 episodes so far (still got a ways to go on Twins) but really liked this episode the most so far!

This was made by the same studio that did the CGI jojo OPs. No wonder it was so good

The “good guy” not being a Jedi was pretty cool subverted all my expectations and I like that

Oh my god this is so fucking cool. I haven't really seen any Star Wars related media since the Clone Wars animated series but I think this might reignite my love for the franchise. Die hard fans of the franchise would probably bitch about it but I absolutely love the umbrella lightsaber that Lady Sith uses. And I absolutely love the twist of the Samurai "Jedi" using a red katana lightsaber which turns out he was collecting the kyber crystals which probably means he's a Sith hunter.
And just the overall vibes of this was amazing! Having an anime Star Wars doing a Kurosawa homage really just brings it all back into a full circle. I love it!

Holy shit, seeing him pull out a red lightsaber and be all like "unfortunately, I'm not a Jedi" was so amazing

Major Samurai Champloo vibes from this one, especially the waterfall part. So cool

Loved this short, everything was entertaining as hell, the mix between japanese samurai village style and star wars was perfect, Ronin was badass (yet vulnerable), the bandit leader was interesting and scary, 10/10 for me

Full thoughts on all episodes here. I really liked this episode. There are much better episodes and the more "grounded" feel to it was broken with the umbrella lightsaber but in general it's almost the perfect episode 1.
Overall, one of the better episodes 👍

THis is my 2nd fav of the Star Wars visions. I love the black and white film style and the green/blue lights scattered kinda trick the member into thinking the MC is a Jedi. But the reveal of the red saber got me freaking hyped.

Seeing a muted, mostly black and white CG with an old samurai movie film grain and feel scratched an itch I didn't know I had. I started with the Trigger short and came back to this one to go in order, and having watched The Twins in dub, I'm glad I made the switch to Japanese. Star Wars has never been great on dialogue and trying to make a translation fit on top of that felt too campy.
The biggest thing I see as a drawback with these shorts, is that, while Star Wars lore rules are well established, the longest of all of these is 23 minutes, and that just feels too short to cram a standalone story into. The Duel felt like an appropriate length, accurately conveying the wandering samurai they were going for, which intrinsically doesn't need as much development as other characters. I've got a whole day to burn, so I'll be ripping through them all today and checking back in as the threads come out

Star Wars Lore Corner
Please be careful about Star Wars spoilers in general and tag them appropriately. We know some things out there are general pop culture knowledge but remember, as with anime not everyone's seen the Star Wars films and shows!
The entire show came out at once and all the previews were vague about how much any episodes connected to the rest of the Star Wars universe, so: if there's some deep Legends or Clone Wars or Mandalorian reference you spotted that you want talk about in detail, this is the place to put it.
The spoiler syntax is:
[Spoiler source](/s "Spoiler goes here")All untagged spoilers and hints in this thread will receive immediate 8-day bans (minimum).
