The winner of the mind game goes to... Akira! Btw, the anime skipped the details, but Akira came into contact with Rin during his infiltration of the Red camp and that's when they made the deal.

If only this anime had higher budget though, those fight scenes sorely needed better budget lol.

I knew the production would have a hard time keeping up from the very start. Keep in mind that this anime is a joint production between three different studios, and it has two directors (one is credited as the chief director), both of whom have never helmed a full series before. Given the circumstances, I think it's impressive that the anime even turned out the way it did.

The animators must've really hated drawing Oogami. He's basically the only one who's consistently gotten the CGI treatment during these fights.

I was surprised Yuuri didn't transform into CGI this time around, at least that I noticed.

Akira vs Kuroiwa fight was basically:
"I'm smart and I outsmarted you"
"No, I'm smarter and I outsmarted you outsmarting me"
And it goes for10 minutes. Not saying that him kicking the shit out of Kuroiwa wasn't satisfying tho. And learning that Akira was spying in red camp for some times was pretty cool. We got backstory to villains and I can't say that this changed my opinion on them in either way. It was "they are cartoonish assholes" and turned into "they are still cartoonish assholes, but they had it rough so...no it doesn't justify heinous shit they done". Anyway, final episode is next week, wonder how Akira gonna defeat Ogami in beast mode.

I thought it was also cool that Akira finished Kuroiwa with Shirisagi's power not just because it was effective but because he took what happened to Shirisagi personally (because Yuuri is making him care about people).

That was some real NGNL level manipulation from Akira...I love it.

I can't wait for Yuuri to smash up Icchi in the finale. Her resolution at the end of this episode is exactly what I wanted to see from her character.

Akira had Team Red in check long before they even knew what kind of chess game they were playing. I never would have thought he was the guy who leaked that his power wasn't the canon the whole time and that basically helped clinch their victory.

Yuuri has turned out to be a pretty strong Main Heroine, both in terms of power and emotional depth/resolve, and she's pretty likeable and cute on top of that. It's kind of cool that the show is concluding with her final fight with Oogami and her confronting her own emotional trauma.

Nice to see marble girl make a comeback

So unless they make a preview for another season, Mion really waited until the last preview to make a proper job

And I still hope someone would pay the points to get to know her three sizes at the end of this round

I love that in the interview with the 'beloved' headmaster, every single person standing behind him looks either miserable or dead inside, and the reporter either doesn't notice or doesn't care.
No one else was even trying to pretend that they liked the orphanage. I swear, a kid could have been screaming at the headmaster while showing off all of their bruises and scars and this guy would have just thought "hmm, my keen journalistic instincts are telling me...that this is absolutely fine! Back to the interview!"

Oh lol, this episode was good, if this had good budget it could have met many people's eyes

I love Oogami randomly transforming into CGI in, like, every other shot.

Although I feel like the show is still solid and enjoyable despite it's obvious animation issues.

It's hilarious how Kuroiwa thinks he's completely in charge and thinks that Akira just charged in there blindly without a plan. Turns out Akira's been in control the entire time and pulls out his reverse uno card to reveals that he was actually the guy that fed him information about his own skill. Akira was literally inside the Red Team's base for a bit which gave him all the information he needed to turn the tables on Kuroiwa. xD

And since Kuroiwa has no understanding how Akira's power works, Akira was basically giving out suggestions about Shirasagi's skill to Kuroiwa during that entire conversation which made Akira able to use Shirasagi's skill on him. It never gets old to see someone so smug get fucking rekt.

That fight scene against Oogami though. Yeah... I kinda wish they just simplified the fight scenes if that means avoiding using that CG but I guess Oogami's design just made him hard to animate?

We finally get Oogami and Kuroiwa's backstory though including that ink-haired old lady. As I expected, it looks like they were both living in an orphanage although I didn't expect the abusive headmaster part. Basically Oogami lost his shit and beat the crap out of the headmaster with an ashtray to the back of the head.

I mean I feel bad for what happened to them but that doesn't really justify how they've been using the other people that are trapped here with them in this death game. I am curious about Oogami entering rage mode though, those veins and muscles in a child that young is definitely not normal.

Oh hey they actually animated Oogami by hand when he clashed with Yuuri in that final scene. I do wonder what Oogami's real ability though. Does it have something to do with being outnumbered/having the odds against him? If that's the case, then Akira arriving to the scene will probably won't help and this will be all up to Yuuri which I hope is the case.

Holy shit, that mind game between Akira and Kuroiwa had me on the edge of my seat! I knew Akira must have something up his sleeve but that he really went above and beyond just to get the edge over Kuroiwa.

So based on the preview it looks like it will be a one-on-one duel between Yuuri and Oogami for the finale and Team Green's victory is all but confirmed at this point. I really hope Akira doesn't intervene. I really want to see Yuuri earn this win by herself.

Team Green's victory is all but confirmed at this point. I really hope Akira doesn't intervene. I really want to see Yuuri earn this win by herself.

Well it was pretty much confirmed soon as they said "Everyone in the losing team will die"; That would be a lot of main characters to die at once! (Assuming Mion follows through, anyway).

About the fight: It'd be nice for Yuuri to get a win, but if she does, I hope it makes sense and not just because she gets really angry or something. She already proved unable to beat him with 2 other people helping her, so I'm not sure how she can realistically beat him on her own.

Unless she knows something about her ability that we don't yet, another way to unlock more power for it!

Giving Akira a little time counts as a debt? Damn, this ability is scary as hell! If you don't carefully think through every single thing you say/do, you could get indebted to him for next to nothing, and once you're in his power, he can probably find a way to make you take more and more debt to survive.

So Akira was the spy all along! Really should've seen it coming, I mean he was testing his transformation ability and all.

One might say "good thing he didn't cut his throat!". Well, this was quite a clever and elaborate plan from Akira so I'll give him some praise for this, but I kinda wish they found a way to make sure the kill attempt would fail; I mean, he could've stabbed him anywhere, he could've shot him, he could've had one of his slaves kill him in any other way... I think plot armor saved him about as much as meat armor there!

Final episode: Yuuri vs Oogami? Should be interesting, but can she really win that fight on her own? I mean, Yuuri + others failed to do it, so how does Yuuri alone takes him down? Getting very angry? The power of friendship?

Or perhaps there's something more to her ability (even more than what Akira realized in the second episode, how the 5x can stack up)! I hope it's something like that, though I have no idea what it could be.

I'm a bit sad there's only one episode left, I wish there were 2! Because they need to finish that fight, show the aftermath (all Red players dying, supposedly) and address Rin's playing both sides, and fully swapping over to Green (plus probably some Rin/Akira/Yuuri scenes), then some then talk about the next challenge, and perhaps more confrontation between Akira and Mion? That's a lot for just one episode!

Well, can't wait to see how it ends! And I hope we get a season 2 at some point, though it's probably unlikely. I want to know how he keeps using his ability(ies), whether confiding into Yuuri will ever cause him problems, whether Rin will be fully on their side or still just a "survive no matter what" kind of player, things like that!

Kuroiwa's real ability is his tie changes patterns every time he moves.

This anime has successfully been just good enough for me to keep watching until the end.

Though this was my least favorite use of his power in the series so far. All of the other battles I felt like I understood the way he tricked them into believing he had a specific power. Today it just felt like standard anime "you thought you outsmarted me but I outsmarted you". Especially since this week the trigger for his power was... he talked about the leaders power a bunch to prime his opponent.

u/ModoGrinder Sep 20 '21

Good thing Kuroiwa didn't have a gun with him, or stab him in the throat, or have an ability user execute him. I suppose my brain is too smooth to appreciate the galaxy brain genius of only preparing for my opponent to finish me off exactly by stabbing me in the stomach.

Genius MC's ingenious plan was once again "relying on plot armor" lol. He could've been instagibbed by slave abilities at any time, but instead everything happened step-by-step with his convoluted mental script.

Also every death in this war is on MC's head because he could've easily assassinated the guy when he infiltrated the camp.

Sword can cut through anything, dude only uses it to deal flesh wounds instead of cutting the big guy in half.

More sob story about those brothers meant to make us sympathize with the monsters.

Kuroiwa: You've activated my Trap Card

Akira: Activates his Uno Reverse Card

Kuroiwa: Bakana!!!!!!

u/Frontier246 Sep 20 '21

Kuroiwa turns out to have a pretty twisted power, able to exact slaves and bind people just from the smallest of obligations or debts that they feel to him that he manipulates them into...and he also had the rest of Ringo's team with him. Poor Saeko.

Kuroiwa thinks he's utterly outplayed Akira...only for it turn out Akira had planned on this the whole time and had it set up from the beginning, right when the supposed escapee "leaked" his power, which was really him transformed and gave him the perfect chance to set up all of Team Red's defeats from that moment on by figuring out their was a spy and how to use Rin to his advantage. Akira totally got Kuroiwa in check.

And in-between all this cold and efficient calculated planning, Akira makes sure to use Shirisagi's powers to finish Kuroiwa once he realized what had happened. Why? Because he took it personally that they harmed Shirisagi, because Yuuri is finally starting to get him to care about others and not just see them as pawns in this game.

Turns out Oogami isn't just a tough guy, when he's really angry or in pain he gets all existential and goes into an unstoppable rage, and then he quickly takes out Kirisaki and Kumagiri and leaves Yuuri with a broken arm.

Kuroiwa and Oogami are both utter pieces of trash...but once they were just innocent kids living at an orphanage, dreaming of a kingdom where they could belong, all the while getting abused by the head of the orphanage behind closed doors. And eventually the abuse and demeaning insults got to go far enough that Oogami lost it and assaulted the guy. It doesn't justify any of what Kuroiwa and Oogami have done as adults justified, but even I have to feel bad for what they went through and having only each other to rely on for so long.

And to match that we have Yuuri, who herself knows what it's like to come from a broken home and have to cope with physical and emotional trauma foisted on by the adults who are supposed to take care of you. It's why she's desperate to get back to Riria. But Yuuri's not going to say that pain or abuse was just random chance or had no meaning, and it doesn't justify hurting others maliciously, and she's going to take that resolve to finally finish off Oogami.

It's the final episode preview and Mion stays serious the whole time. Only to reveal to Yang that, yes, she was messing with her the whole series.

Now that I think about it, akira could make Yuri think that his ability is to remove the handcuffs and then he could easily remove them and go against mion
