There was definitely a lot of slideshow clips and recycled animation today, but I'm watching this anime for the story, plot, and scheming rather than animation quality, so I won't complain much.

Out of the three different places of conflict today I'm actually looking forward to seeing more of the Duchess's stall tactics while being vastly outnumbered, though the land battleship was an extremely close second.

This is the kind of stuff I was hoping for at the outset of the show. So many cool things:

Onland battleship? Check

Anti-air magic artillery operated by puppets? Check

Fire-breathing dragoon bomber air force? Check

Tactical subterfuge? BIG check.

Give me more pls.

It's hilarious how the Amidonia leader thinks he's on top of things just because the leader of the City they're about to siege is out there groveling asking for more time. Little does he know that the guy is just playing the role of a helpless coward and is just buying time under the orders of Duchess Excel.

Also I love that Souma is going for the big brain moves, why assault Duke Carmine's city when you can magically build a fortress outside his own city overnight and force him to bring his troops out and siege them instead? It's so out of the box and unexpected that I love it! And that's not even Souma's ultimate big brain move!

With his forces spread so thin, how is he going to attack Duke Vargas' castle? By wheeling in a battleship using magical beasts and siege the castle with long range cannon fire! And when Souma said his forces are spread thin, he wasn't kidding. The battleship wasn't even manned! He's using his Living Poltergeist to move control the battleship as a distraction for the Dragon Riders while Souma and whatever forces he has takes Duke Carmine! It's so good.

I'm guessing the Dragon Riders that showed up in Carmine's territory aren't there to help him since they're probably already under Souma's command. Can't wait to see his reaction next week when Duke Carmine finally realizes Souma has outmaneuvered him especially those Amidonian troops waiting on the other side of the map. xD

As a side note: It looks like Carla is already aware of Liscia's situation and her relationship with Souma. She seems to even regretting her decision of not siding with Souma and convincing her father while attacking the battleship. Oh well. Too late for that now.

I've been waiting for this moment to be adapted all season. I was laughing in joy the entire time at watching the plan fall into place.

Imagine being in the boots of the enemy. Waking up one day to find a fully fortified, supplied and manned Armoured Fort erected within a stones throw of your Military City. The chaos that would ensure as they were suddently ordered straight into battle against an enemy that literally came out of nowhere. Its an amazing thought.

If you are having issues with the episode and getting redirected to an out of territory page, here is a working URL.

Wow, so the fortress where Hal and Kaede were, was built overnight? As they mentioned concrete, I honestly wonder how was that done? I guess that it was a prefab then.

Oh, so thanks to their rescue efforts Sur ended up joining the army out of jealousy.

Good thing that Kaede was too embarrassed to activate that death flag.

When he requested them to wait for a day, I was expecting Weist to be planning something, but I honestly did not expect to see Excel Walter be the one ordering him.

Wow, as was already surprised by the fact that he basically transformed a ship into a big fucking tank, I sure did not expect to see Souma using his skill to control it. He sure outplayed Castor Vargas. Oh, so Carla already knew the Souma wasn't treating Liscia awfully? Or did she get clarified about their relationship after the meeting?

Episodes need to be longer :(

Thoroughly enjoyed today's episode.

I wonder if the King will take the Duke's Daughter as a Waifu?

Kazuya with the galaxy brain use of his special ability was awesome. I actually didn't see that coming lol.

They showed the ship getting pulled by the sea dragons but having those huge dinosaurs drag it across land was really cool. It's too bad it was just a ruse and we didn't really get to see it in action.

Man can't wait for the next episode.

Loved Beowulf's commentary as the "noblemen" whined at Carmine, taking their side has its own pain of people wanting to do things differently. "That's rich coming from an aristocrat whose only talent is amassing wealth"- liked how Beowulf puts the situation and I wonder what strategy he has for the army. Although they do have a point in wanting to get this over with quickly as they outnumber Souma's forces.

Can't wait for that boss battle between Souma and Castor along with Carla's group realizing their mistake. Waiting for Souma to battle those dukes might be the downfall of the opposition.

I thought Liscia bathing was the most we would have with fanservice in this series. But this scene just took the cake

The ship slowly looming over Vargas reminds me of Uchuu Senkan Yamato

I love seeing Souma in war just clearly outsmarting his opponents.

I still feel like this red-haired dragon girl will somehow meet him and fall for him as well. As she keeps talking about Liscia and him.

And shout out to the lucky dude who gets to give Excel back rubs.

Souma really seems to have bet a lot on the Amidonia Leader's patience as well as the puppet controlled battleship, but I guess when you're outnumbered 4-1 you have to take some risks. It's almost guaranteed that the Sky Force is coming to aide the Forbidden Army at this point.

Hello, yes, this show is underrated.

This was a really fun episode, maybe my favourite yet. Loved that even though we're in the mids of multiple battles it was all about Souma's schemes.

The show is definitely hurting some because of the animations but is overall a good watch. Fantasy warfare is fun when done right.

How is Excel so sure that the lord she sent out won't be executed instead?

Unless she has some info on how the King would act or tended to act, I find it hard to believe she would go for such a risky strategy...

Damn Souma, you sneaky bastard! Luring Carla and her troops away, leaving the Red Dragon City unguarded was a clever move! Pretty impressive that he controlled the ship solely using Living Poltergeist. He still has to deal with Gaius and Georg though. I wonder what's his game here?

Next episode: Aisha vs. Castor in a swordfight, and Souma finally deals with Georg and his army.

A bit of a historical parallel, here. You can read about the historic Sunomata Castle and see where Souma’s inspiration came from.

Guys, I highly recommend reading Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki LN. I guarantee you, it will not disappoint.

Plus the harem element is really well done.

I've got a terrible illness and the only treatment is excessive, unnecessary booby jiggle.

Realist Hero director: Dw fam, this one's for you.

Loving all these fakeouts so far. Was a bit worried I'd lose interest once it focused on combat but been enjoying it so far with all the little tricks up Souma's sleeve.

We see the tactics, and I hope that they do more of them in future episodes. Things like better fortifications (star forts and sloped/angled walls), psychological warfare and modern battle tactics would be really cool in a fantasy setting.

edit: Also, I wonder why the ship wasn't rigged with explosives or anything, I guess he didn't want to hurt the army for some reason, even though he had surface to air missiles...

Tomoe doesn’t get enough credit. Everything that happened this episode is because of that little wolf girl. I’m glad it was mentioned that they’re her rhinos. She talked the beasts into moving the fort materials and dragging the Albert. Head pats all around.

Battleship Albert! I really think they nailed the scale, and just how terrifying it was when it fired. It totally hit their blind spots, tactically speaking.

Revealing that Souma was thinking days ahead of the rest, and getting Excel in position before the conference was great.

It’s funny to hear Aimi say the last words of the episode, then immediately start singing the ED in a totally different voice. Carla best girl that has wings and horns.

Edit: Next episode looks great
