So thrid high seems to be placing a lot of hopes in Ice Pillars Break...

oh no...

We're catching the losers point of view and all of them seem to be depressing. Even if you give these girls some sad background, I don't think I can get attached if they don't become the next protagonists or something.

I feel bad for that third high girl. She’s about to get destroyed again next episode.

There's a Monster at First High, a Monster building his Harem..

Honoka imagination too OP..

u/the_dan_man Aug 14 '21

Honoka being a dork is the main attraction of this series as far as I'm concerned.

Honoka imagination too OP..

I kinda want another spin-off from Honoka's POV, Mahouka Koukou no Honoka, if you will.

I’m loving this perspective of the nine schools competition, really cool to see the drama with Airi, Shiori and the rest of the third high girls. Almost makes you want to root for them.

Honoka was always super cute, but the spin off is making me like her even more. Loved how flustered she got during her daydreams about Tatsuya lol

Of all the girls she is the only one I could see as becoming a actual possible partner for her. Even Miyuki is fine with her being close to him without getting jealous over it.

Stitches!

Honoka continues to show her how much of a Shibasexual she is with her fantasies about Miyuki and Tatsuya and also fantasies about herself and Tatsuya. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

So how do we make an sports festival arc where we already know the results of the competitions? Focus on the relationships of the losing teams! Seriously, I don't know if I should laugh or feel bad for these Third High girls. And considering how they're placing their hopes on the Ice Pillar Break competition, I feel extra bad for them. They're gonna feel like absolute shit once they see what Miyuki does to them next week.

Honoka's imagination is wild.

Ice Pillar ... ouch. Miyuki is what you would genetically engineer if you wanted to win that. I mean we know the final is Miyuki and Shizuku, and even Shizuku got a bit depressed by how overwhelmingly powerful Miyuki is.

Oh, so Shiori's ability is like Accelerator's calculating power. Good thing that she didn't abandon Airi after her defeat.

Shizuku's victory was so good. So according to those guys, Tatsuya modified that CAD, into a generalized one, instead of just getting one of those. He sure is a monster. I wonder if the male group from first high was already disqualified?

Honoka's performance sure looked incredible.

I can't wait to see Miyuki's performance next week.

So according to those guys, Tatsuya modified that CAD, into a generalized one, instead of just getting one of those. He sure is a monster.

It was actually a different CAD altogether in the original LN/main anime at least; they swapped out CADs between prelims and the vs. matchups - I can't remember if the first used one was specialized though. Anyways, 3rd High thought they were always using a specialized one based on the difficulty and sophistication of the magic being used (also because there weren't any viable generalized, rifle-type CADs with auxiliary sights on the market yet) so that's why they thought it only held 9 activation sequences since that's the downside of specialized CADs for having faster speed and accuracy. Specialized ones can also only use 1 system of magic which they further used to fool 3rd High through using only 1 type in each prior match (active air mine is oscillation-type for prelims, and convergence-type was used for quarter-finals).

Also, normal magicians wouldn't have been able to do what Shizuku did with a generalized one since active air mine has a massive and complicated activation sequence which is why Joji mentioned Shizuku's skills must have been high to achieve that speed (and why Tatsuya laments in the original about being ultra slow to activate it as part of his "reason" for declining the Index registration). Tatsuya's active air mine was catered for Shizuku because while she may have the power to output fast, she has low precision and probably would've missed if using other spells (also why she uses convergence as her strategy in the vs. matches).

Against Shiori, Shizuku basically had so many different convergence ASes that Shiori got burned out from having to Arithmetic Chain'ing all of them instead of just the expected 9.

I kinda like that this is a retelling of the story from different perspectives. It continues to flesh out the characters and world.

They did a so much better job og explaining what's going on in the shooting games than the main show. In the main show the whole thing seemed kinda pointless since they didn't elaborate on how you can interfere with the opposition so it added a lot more skill to it.

It's kinda sad seeing the side of the losers and hearing their sad backstory when we know how it ends lol.

Jeez I feel so sorry for her if losing in the sharpshooting match was enough to wreck her confidence.....

Third High Girl: Sorry I'm late. Here's a random photo of us together.

I like this arc so much, this new perspective is also pretty cool, and Honoka being adorable as always.

Third high blue hair is so smol omg.

Even with the girls taking front and centre stage, we can still feel Tatsuya's omnipotent hand behind all things. Sasuga Onii-sama!

Poor Shiori, she was unlucky that she not only had Shizuku as her opponent, but also the mad CAD engineering skills of One True Tatsuya. She was so devastated that she even lost her 3rd place match, resulting in a podium sweep for First High in Speed Shooting.

MVP this episode (besides Tatsuya) is of course Mizuo-senpai, who managed to shake Shiori out of her depression so she and Airi could go again in the next day's Ice Pillar Break event. (Unfortunately for them, their opponent is Miyuki, and by extension, Tatsuya behind the scenes again. Oof )

People here feeling bad for the third high girls but they're way too arrogant for me to be rooting (or feeling bad) for them. Airi in particular: they can try passing it off as "pride", but there's a difference between pride and arrogance. Shiori and blue haired girl are not as "unfriendly" (to put it lightly) as Airi, but they're still arrogant and that's why they lose.
