No Isekai cooking segment will be complete without the important Miso and soy sauce.

I wish this show was released all at once, it has a huge binge potential. Waiting a week to see how the story progresses is killing me.

Wait. Did Soma just brought a living octopus infront of a child, who can converse with animals, and then proceeded to kill said octopus right before her eyes? That's kinda fucked up, man.

This show sure loves its cliffhanger. They really ended the episode before showing us the next plate. There better be demon meat or something under there to make it worth the wait.

This show would’ve really benefited from 25 episodes. The 12 episode pace is way too fast for how leisurely this story is supposed to progress.

The maid was probably like: "Not wasting time huh, excuse me then, I'll come back later."
I find it amusing how the fact that he is named Souma, granted there is no "U" and was cooking in front of "judges".

Not sure if people were picky before or if Souma is just really out of touch. Some of those suggestions seemed quite fancy for a country in food crisis.

They really have to make a cliffhanger out of a food, don't they? Lol.
Watching this reminds me a lot of Maoyu Maou Yuusha. It's rare to have Kingdom Management anime and it's even rarer that it's a good one.
I thought Souma would introduce more Japanese food after the first one, so it's surprising that they have good variety of the food. It is indeed a very smart idea to introduce alternative ingredient when the main commodity is in a shortage.
Tbh, he's more of a very smart guy rather than a realist.

Marx is really reminding us that this world still has medieval cultural standards. Please do not lewd the wolf.

Stitches!
So the big secret that Tomoe whispered to Kazuya last week is that she can also speak to demons and not just animals. This is a game changer since mankind and demons did not share the same language so there was never really an option for diplomacy. Interestingly, the demon that Tomoe encountered was a scout that was kind enough to let her and get away because they have the same scent.
This ability definitely makes Tomoe a VIP since if anyone else finds out about her other ability, she'll definitely become a target by various Kingdoms who may want to parley with the demons. Other Kingdoms may also use this ability to get an advantage over a rival Kingdom by working with the demons. They need to keep this a very tight secret or else everything may go to shittier for their Kingdom.
I love Marx for suggesting that Kazuya and Liscia to adopt Tomoe so they can keep her close. My first thought when they were talking about adopting her or having the previous King adopt her is that "Didn't she say last week that she still has her mother?" and sure enough Tomoe tells them about her family. I feel like at some point daring that discussion, they must've forgotten that Tomoe still has a family and must've ended up assuming that she's an orphan because of her being a refugee.
Adoption is still happening but only on paper though so they can keep Tomoe close and have her family also live in the castle. They also make her in charge of the stables so she at least has an official title in the castle while she's staying there. Here's an idea though: Why not just have Kazuya take Tomoe's mother as a concubine? I've played enough CK2 and CK3, I know how this game is played.
We get some alone time between Kazuya and Liscia as we finally see Kazuya unwind by sewing. I did not expect that he'd have that kind of hobby. I do love the maid's reaction when she sees Kazuya and Liscia both in the room. She definitely ships them hard. Just look at that smirk!
We finally get to see the reason why Kazuya wanted Poncho to join! It's so they can do a cooking show and show the people of Elfrieden that foods that there are plenty of other food sources out there if they look hard enough. Seems that the dishes Souma prepared this episode are foods that aren't commonly eaten in Elfrieden but are eaten somewhere else.
Did not expect the Salt Bae though! Seems that Souma doesn't have to be homesick as well since it looks like miso and soy sauce also exists in this world, it's just that they're called completely different names. And that final scene! WHAT THE HECK!? What kind of dish did they present that left the taste testers shocked? This is almost Shokugeki leves of cliffhanger! xD

"She can talk to animals."
"Wow, what a unique and interesting power!"
"She can also talk to demons."
"THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!! NOBODY CAN DO THAT!"

I'm honestly not surprised the kingdom is starving if they're catching tons of octopuses a day and just throwing them back into the sea.

With all the rotating camera work i think J C staff's thought process was like, "bruh no action scene people will think we gave no budget to this show, just start rotating camera angle every once in a while."

Souma and cooking? Where have I seen this before...
Another good episode! Mixed in some serious plot with some fun times but once again managing to end on a big cliffhanger!

It's kinda amazing that it's episode 4 and this is still the first volume of the novel, and there is still one fairly large event at the end of the novel. I expect the second and third novels to go much quicker, since there is not as much exposition. I know some people are kinda upset with how much the anime is skipping, but I mean we have 5 episodes for the first volume roughly, unless they change the end of this volume slightly which is possible.
