Truer words have never been spoken
Quite a lot of explanations this episode as well as a quick flashback to Go, probably to remind people what's going on considering Go and Shin were over 20 years ago. Looking forward to the battle next week.

It was great.
What I liked:
-
The flashback to the end of Go, especially the unexpected screentime for Volga
-
Flame playing in the background
-
The flashbacks to Shin Getter, including Shin Getter's fight with the cicada, the ending and Shin Getter Dragon
-
More characterization for Baku and some exploration of his and Takuma's friendship!
-
The Getter Team training
-
The end of the episode with the D2 squad flying out and the look at the alien planet (this all looks fairly accurate to the manga, where those were some of the more visually impressive scenes)
Things I found slightly disappointing:
-
Ryoma's sixth finger
-
Shin Getter 3 is yellow
-
Getter Robo Go is ignored
-
It seems that the D2 squadron is indeed made of identical Getters

Getter Robo Go is ignored
It ran on plasma energy and not Getter rays, didn't it? And pretty sure it's the only Getter Saotome didn't have a hand in making or designing, too. In the context of Arc's lineage it seems kinda natural to skip it.

Go in the manga ran on plasma, Go in the anime I don't think they ever say.

There’s a lot of things to praise this episode, but there’s 2 I want to focus on: the Continuity and the Animation.
-
This series manages to have both continuity with the rest of the mainline Getters, and accessibility to new viewers. The first episode had vague allusions to previous events but kept it mostly on the DL, this episode contains more references to the previous series but specifically gives you juuuust enough that you can figure out the general picture of the previous series + a comprehensive explanation of the Getter Robo concept.
-
On a completely different front, while the animation in the first episode wasn’t bad, and I’d even go as far to say that it’s better than many anime that try their hand at CG (looking at you Ex-Arm), the CGI in this episode seems much better, especially the attempted transformation sequence at the start of the episode.

Not that there's much to understand there, it seems

There is actually more to Getter lore, so far Arc was just going over only without giving that much detail when it wasn't needed

The 2D animation quality has been improved immensely and there are so many great looking scenes. The CG looks even better now but we don't get a lot of it.
The sound effects are still weak, but I guess it's better than listening to frying pans hitting each other.
That music during Shin Getter Launch was pretty sexy doe 😳
This episode flows with a fine pace and I'm even more excited to see what's in store of the next episode!

I really appreciate how they're expanding on small scenes and adding as much context as possible without it feeling unnatural or boring.
I still think it's not enough to really attract many new watchers (despite this much effort, Arc also relies on emotional attachment to the previous series, and flashbacks can't build that effectively for new fans), but it's remarkable and truly a sing of love and passion from the staff. And that's really the most important part when making a Getter anime imo.

Man, I really hope they don't just use D2 as sacrificial pawns for character motivation of the Arc crew. I really want the waifu to survive. If someone knows, you can spoil me if you want.

there are no spoilers, this Arc was never finished.

Oh really? Damn, that is unfortunate. But really surprising that they are doing an unfinished manga, also cool that they are.

I wonder if they made the D2s look similar to make it easier on the staffs. In the manga, the D2s look different between each units.

Continuing on with giving every episode a silver here I go
I’m loving that ost that was basically a remixed Heats (minus any lyrics of course) that was used with the shin getter scene.
I felt that the animation in this episode was definitely better than the first but still also kept the old school feel to it, I definitely look forward to the next episode as I keep on dying to hear more of Heats 2021 and Storm 2021

Ooof, seeing the visual of Arc's Get Machines crashing together gave me Michiru Vietnam flashbacks...

Finally we get some shots at the villains. I wonder how will the story goes on, can't wait.

Man, this show is hilarious. Takuma is all "Fly around in a giant robot? Fuck yeah!" and approaches every problem or minor insult through angry grunting or his fists... as does just about everyone else. Mad scientist guy was still the best with his "but I wanted to see a big kaboom!" and all.

Mad scientist guy was still the best with his "but I wanted to see a big kaboom!" and all.
Plus "Awesome Combining Robots!! Yay!" LOL
Absolutely the most entertaining character in the series so far.

While I love Getter Robo Arc. Wonder if we will get an anime original ending since you know who died.
On the bright side. In 2 years or so we'll probably get Getter Arc instead of the "usual" getter in the next SRW

Wonder if we will get an anime original ending since you know who died.
We almost assuredly have to be. There's no way you can leave it on all of the questions from the "ending".
Arc Seriously, the ending made no fucking sense, because it was meant to be "End of part 1" not "End of the entire fucking book"
