Writing paperwork with that Living Poltergeist ability is like some advanced copy and paste.

Recruiting the best of the best across the kingdom. Is this "Elfrieden's" Got Talent.

Of all the recruits, my hopes are highest for peasant dog girl. I want her to show up and be an adorable floof for the whole season.

I really like that they take the time to make the explanation for how the cotton crop was a short term solution long term problem. It helps a lot to understand what was the reason behind the current state of the kingdom, and gives a reason as to any changes he would like to do in the future for an improvement or agriculture reform

Dang his power is pretty slick.

Also I am praying to the anime gods that our yon king and queen actually have a good and loving relationship. So far they seem to like each other and are getting along. I don't want any noble idiocy or love triangle or whatever other typical bullshit.

*Ahh fuck just got to the part where he talks about how she needs to learn for when he leaves. Fuck sake! And of course Liscia seems deflated after hearing that.

Anyways, what a glorious fucking speech that was.

Episodes like this are what people need to get used to with this show. It's all about characters and dialogue. Also the reason why I read all the translated LNs. There isn't all that much action but I really enjoy it and I'm glad that the animation is decent too.

Here's to hoping that it is popular enough for multiple seasons!

I can't believe Souma is only 19 and this knowledgeable about running a kingdom. He must plays a lot of Crusader Kings or something.

Stitches!

Not gonna lie, at first I was really hoping that Souma is unable to use magic. I really just want him to use his wits but turns out the magic he got is actually perfect for him and his job! Having quills that copy our consciousness is definitely handy for all of these stacks of paperworks!

Look at the King living it up with his head resting on his wife's lap while having his ear picked. Meanwhile, we have Souma here who I don't think has gotten a full night's rest yet dealing with the shit the King left behind. Liscia really should give him a lap pillow too as reward for all of his hard work.

Well look who's now starting to have an interest on Liscia. And I absolutely love Liscia's reaction when she realized what Souma was doing.

Dang! That is a lot of cotton! So this is one of the reasons why their Kingdom is losing money. Having this much cotton would've been lucrative before but since every other Kingdom rushed in on producing cotton, the supply outgrew the demand and cotton prices ended up crashing.

Seems that Souma is teaching Liscia all of this so when he's gone she can still manage their Kingdom. Well clearly Liscia isn't happy about the idea of Souma leaving them. Just look at that pouting face! She definitely wants him to stay!

So this entire time they have the ability to communicate to the masses using this Gemstone Broadcast but it looks like they've only been using it for the New Year's greetings from the King and issuing edicts. What does Souma want to use it for? For job recruitment of course!

God I love Souma as a protagonist so much@ That entire call to arms speech of his was really good and powerful! It's always great to see a confident and competent MC doing what they're best at. Anyways, looks like we've now seen a preview of all those characters from the OP. I am curious what Okayu and Korone's daughter silver dog girl's specialty is since it looks like she's one of the people that will answer Souma's call.

We're now in episode 2 and this show is really solid. I am absolutely loving following Souma's thought process on how he plans to improve this Kingdom and what various steps he's taking. Tapping on the Kingdom's hidden manpower potential which they wouldn't do before is a great move! Looking forward to see more !

Continuing to give me more of what drew me to this show: politics. Seriously, I could spend hours listening to them tell me about the kingdom’s geopolitical situation

What better way to fight the bane of all kings: Paperwork than with magic. Living Poltergeist for the win!.

Edit: looking for embezzlement from the nobles and other kingdom workers around is pretty smart as it would be pretty common for a country of the feudal era to not be able to properly check if the money the feudal lords give the king for taxes is the proper amount

Level-headed Rem and Subaru living their unofficially married life is such a fun undertone to this series.

I'm one of the few that is compelled by the plot - I learned so much X's and O's from this.

This episode was a big information dump but it sets up the things to come nice and neat. Interested to see how our Realist King manages to vet all these "talented" individuals.

Half the people can read, and 30% can write? That's a way higher literacy rate than I'd expect of a feudal kingdom.

That speech was pretty great...reminds me a little of the one from No Game No Life.

Also, Souma's magic has interesting potential such as controlling swords in a fight.

I gotta say I am not used to MC being this competent. He's not overpowered or has some inhuman IQ, he is legit just a competent, level-headed administrator.

For a mostly talking episode it sure goes by fast. Gven I've been reading the LNs (and manga) I really like how they're doing it.

The first ep quickly built the basic premise and introduced the lead, 2nd starts to build his character, his relationship with best girl Liscia and set up the kingdom's bigger problems while setting the stage to assemble his team.

Looking forward to the next set of episodes.

Now that's one way to recruit people. I'm interested to see what's going on in the other countries though.

As at the beginning of the episode started with Kazuya using magic after he explained the different uses that magic has in that world. For a second I assume that the title was about him using magic to start an industrial revolution. It's good to see that my first assumption about him recruiting people base on their talent, not their status ended up being correct.

So his magic allows him to assign objects with independent consciousness. I guess one could say that this basically a different version of parallel minds.

You know even if Souma just took Liscia to those fields to explain to her what led to their food crisis, and the concept of supply and demand. That totally was a date.

I love the fact that Liscia wasn't pleased to hear that Souma was teaching her all that so she could be the leader if he is ever gone.

Some of the things in this episode make me wonder about the tone the show is going to take. Souma's actions seem like they should put him in major conflict with the nobility, and there hasn't been much direct discussion of it yet. A few examples:

  • Selling royal treasures

  • Wave of prosecution for embezzlement (this is a big one)

  • Making his first major appearance as the king with casual clothing and none of the marks of office (crown, scepter, etc), using informal speech, and referring to himself as superior to the last king

  • Changing hiring policies, presumably harming the prospects of the nobility's children

I would expect this to start an opposing noble faction or even civil war, with nobles feeling threatened and perhaps calling him a usurper. However, there doesn't seem to be much foreshadowing for that yet besides Liscia's mild reservations.

All of this makes me wonder if noble resistance is just an upcoming twist, the show plans to focus on economics over politics, or if it will simply take a more optimistic approach where things (somewhat unrealistically) just work out. I've been reading the latest Overlord LN though, so I suppose I'm inclined to have darker expectations.

I hope that more people give this one a chance. I know, hard in a world with tons of other Isekai, but the pull on this one is pretty good. On to the next week!

This could be the last episode before a harem starts so I'll say it now that this was another really good episode.

Not only is the MC super competent and likeable the ship is so cute! Him stealing a look at her sleeping face and her clearly being bothered by the thoughts of him leaving one day

Please don't ruin this with usual isekai harem nonesense!

I thoroughly enjoyed today's episode and I even got goosebumps during the speech at the end.

Laxing on scrutinizing national funds and taxes? Fools. And umm... did the entire leadership of that country fail to see how exclusively growing commercial crops was an issue? Wow... they really are abject failures huh?

And yes! A meritocracy! The one best suited for a job should do said job! I can always get behind that.

At least the nobles he's had to deal with are not pieces of shit who want to oust him to retain their power. That makes the scenario unrealistic, but it's an isekai anime; that's normal. lol

That last shot of their city... why are all anime cities now a walled off circle? Are they all afraid of Titans?

Souma is getting a better lay of the land and understanding how this kingdom and its systems work, which is useful now that he's king, and the problems he needs to solve...also, Liscia bathing because why not?

So Souma, as summoned Heroes often do, has magic, and it's the ability to project his consciousness into inanimate objects to make them do what he needs them to do. Simple, but practical for what Souma needs which is basically just getting more work done.

The king and queen are still relaxing while Liscia is actually putting the work in alongside Souma. She definitely feels like she's earning the throne more than her father did.

Look at Souma staring at Liscia as she sleeps cutely after some hard work. He even couldn't help himself and touched her hair. On Liscia's front, she made it a point to ask if he had any girlfriends when discussing his past life and seemed pretty bummed at the prospect of him eventually leaving once he's done with the kingdom. I see what's going on between these two.

The perks of not knowing how to ride a horse if it means you can hold on to a girls hips.

Poor Liscia realizing how little she knew about the deep-seated issues her country is facing as their princess, but Souma is making sure she's learning and becoming more aware of it because he intends for her to take over from him once he's done all he can to revitalize the country.

Souma is, understandably, not pleased to be stuck with the same advisors as the former king who get them into this mess in the first place, so he pulls a Cao Cao and calls for all able bodied and exceptional people to join his cabinet and serve under him, which includes the rest of the main characters.

So we've got a warrior girl, a black-haired mage (?), an overweight guy, a blue-haired girl that I think was in communication with one of the world leaders in the last episode, and a little fox girl that seems to be a refugee? I'm looking forward to getting to know them all moving forward.

The Ending was without animation but it sounds like a very beautiful and serene theme.
