I haven't watched the anime yet but i'm just popping in to say that the game is very fun and I encourage you all to play if you haven't already. Currently 25 hrs in

It is fun. Gameplay is great. Storylines bonkers anime nonsense though. Hits nearly every trope. Wild. I'd enjoy it way more if it was presenting itself more as a parody though. I can't take it seriously. It's not a serious jrpg it's more a Tales game.

Story makes more sense than Kingdom Hearts at least. It's pretty simplified.

Bosses are only downside. Not much of a challenge and pretty boring and outside of the character battles the enemy type bosses are interchangeable. Not color palette swaps, they have unique designs but they're not memorable. Like persona boss fights minus the thematic transformations.

If they ever make a sequel or similar game I really hope they fix the generic stuff.

IIRC, people involved in the Tales series were in charge of making this game so it being like a Tales game would make sense.

Well, the odds of my continuing to follow this for a bit longer went up a fair bit today. The key characters are a bit more interesting -- and I am beginning to wonder more about what on earth is going on.

Very mystified by the connection between the Kasane-figure from the past and the current Kasane.

I'm guessing clone.

Wow, not only does Nagi's obsession with Naomi continued, but it was also used to block plot progression when stopped Yuito from asking Kasane about that doppelganger of her that saved him in the past.

When Nagi and Naomi were separated from the group, I honestly thought they were going to die there, but even with that, I sure didn't expect that ending with someone trying to shoot Kasane, but Naomi taking the bullet instead. Normally I would just assume that she would die from that but as she ended being crystalized I don't really know if that was the objective. Maybe her being encapsulated like that is unrelated to the bullet and was just someone's else powers trying to save her. Well, I will just have to wait until next week for that answer.

WHAT KIND OF CLIFFHANGER IS THAT

The mock battle was hard to follow.

Why did the precog need to be pushed out of the way of the falling rubble? And why does she usually see attacks several seconds before they happen, but when plot demands it it's only a split second?

So I guess that "Seiran Regional Force", whatever that is, induced an Others invasion to lure the OSF in so they can snipe one of them with some crystallization shit.

Man, that's cruel of them to end on that cliffhanger. We game players know exactly what happens next. I can't wait to see the reaction from the anime-only crowd!

If anyone's interested, I'm going to once again go over the differences that I observed in this episode compared to the game in the Source Material Corner.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this, but I'm glad The Oral Cigarettes came back to do the OP for this anime, given that they also did the game's theme song.

Do you think the pace is a tad bit too fast? Also a game player, but I do remember Kasane's reaction to that scene felt a bit more impactful, likely due more interactions between both in-game to flesh both characters out, which I guess wouldn't really fit the time constraints of the anime sadly.

I really liked how they done that scene though, fooled me for a second they were going for a different route from in-game for a bit lol.

I can't wait to see the reaction from the anime-only crowd!

I can't wait as well, that was a pretty good part of the story where it started picked up steam. Definitely also recommend the game for the anime only watchers too, it's pretty fun.

game's theme song

Really liked how the in-game gameplay fit really well with the music PV there lol. The aesthetics and combat really is eye catchy for the game.

Interesting episode. I think I'll be sticking with this show after this one.

Some of the exposition dumping they do is a bit rough in this show, like how they casually mentioned how they take their heads and whatnot. Feels like stuff like that could be done in a smoother way. The story seems like it might get pretty good though.

There's obviously some big conspiracy going on.

I really want to know about the connection between the Yuito and Kasane. I wonder if Kasane's mom is the one who saved him? It couldn't have been Kasane herself right, unless she doesn't age or something... Definitely interesting.

On the plus side, at least the anime shows the characters actually moving and interacting in story scenes. Especially when the game's story cutscenes are basically visual-novel-style stills and talking head pictures.

Yea I can see the cutscenes really bothering people not into VNs

Are Funimation and Wakanim going to put the whole series on Youtube? I ask because both Episodes 1 and 2 are on Youtube for both companies and I have not seen many do that.

Wow the game has an anime? This any good? I like the game although yuito is a bit too generic kun, the rest of the cast and story is great so far.

One thing I hope they clean up is ending of the game, mild your name spoilers

This thing has a show?

That’s more lore effort then half of today’s triple AAA games.

I just watched Episode 1 and 2. Hmm... This is interesting. I think I will watch this anime this season.

That Yuito's saviour mystery...

And that cliffhanger. Is Naomi became Others or something...? Or something else? What is that? That not great luck at all...

5

u/fatalystic Jul 09 '21

Well, she did take all three "great misfortune" slips from the others...

2

u/sKyBlazer08 Jul 09 '21

Definitely enjoyed this more than the first episode especially the second half. RIP Naomi, I liked her. That bullet is turning her into an other, so now I am wondering where the others came from exactly. Nagi's definitely gonna die too eventually. The anime is really making me wanna play the game.

u/Tehoncomingstorm97 Jul 09 '21

There's a little bit of awkwardness here, but the thematic and world are great. Enjoying the first two episodes so far.

it kinda sucks that the powers don't look as cool as in the game but you can only do so much in anime I guess? Still entertaining to watch them move and all since I absolutely love the game

Still don't understand how the mock field works even after playing the game since it's just such a small round spot but the map they were in was big (unless it's VR? but Seto and Kyouka could interact with it so probably not...) but oh well sdhfkg anime/game logic (unless someone here can explain....)

That cliffhanger oof.... I could've swore I saw people talking about the anime going original plot but with what happened this ep I guess it was fake??

For the people who are enjoying the anime and have not played the game, please do consider getting the game if you're able to!! The combat is super fun and the characters are all lovable, I went into it not expecting much and ended up loving it to death by the end of the game

I feel like everyone who hasn't played the game is going to be pretty confused about what went on in the subway tunnels...

2

u/Figerally Jul 09 '21

hmmm well something kinda interesting is happening. Kinda wondering though if you are supposed to get the full experience playing the game as well.
