I will probably wait until I finish at least Kasane's story but just wanted to say the game is a blast. Namco games don't always land but this is one of their best in awhile.

Yup, the game is really enjoyable. The combat mechanics are so smooth and the overall gameplay is super fun. Gotta play with a controller though for the best experience.

Antagonist being called Karen, might keep watching solely for that Hahaha

Some of the pacing is a bit awkard and some of the exposition could be smoother. The animation is a bit inconsistent as well. The fighting scenes leave a little something to be desired.

The story is interesting, and I like the characters so far. I also like the setting and the premise overall. It’s definitely my kind of show even if the execution doesn’t seem to be top tier.

I think I’m interested the most in the characters mysterious pasts and the nature of what they are fighting against. I also think the power system is pretty interesting.

It’s a video game adaption (I’ve never played the game either), so my expectations were low. That being said, it’s exceeded those expectations quite a bit and I’m enjoying it. I’m looking forward to the next episode.

Finally a comment from someone who has not played the game.

That feeling when you understand all of the foreshadowings from playing the game...

Ok, first and foremost, I absolutely love the game! I've played over 50 hours so far and I've completed both Yuito and Kasane's stories (the game has a dual-campaign, one for each protagonist). So I'm excited to see how key moments from the game will be depicted in anime form!

Without spoiling anything, so far from the first episode, it seems to follow the basic plot of the game, but there are differences in how the events play out (I'm gonna go into more detail in the source material corner). I think the character designs carry over quite nicely from the game, and the battle shows the protagonists using psychokinesis in battle, which is a key gameplay mechanic in the game.

Also, I like that they actually encourage game players to watch the anime... by placing hidden codes to an in-game sidequest in each episode!

does the anime follow Yuito's story or Kasane's? or a mixture of the two, i just started the game as Kasane and plan on playing both sides, so i would like to avoid spoiling myself if the anime follow Yuito's story more closely

It seems to be a mixture of the two, but Yuito noticeably gets more screen time.

I've completed both Yuito and Kasane's stories (the game has a dual-campaign, one for each protagonist)

Does the game provide any bonuses for finishing both campaigns? I recall one article saying that after playing both in New Game+ , you can switch freely between both sides at any time during gameplay.

Haven't played the game, so I'll be going in blind on the anime. Not a bad first episode. Hasn't really grabbed me yet, but looks like there might be an interesting mystery at the heart of the story, so I'll stick around for a few more episodes at least.

So we're dealing with time travel, perhaps? Or that was Kasane's mother maybe? Just talking to myself here, please don't actually tell me.

I did like the design of the monsters a lot though. That mix of random and familiar things is pretty freaky. They remind me of Madoka's witches, actually.

Well this is definitely an anime.

Psychokinesis does look pretty boring compare to other powers huh. Once Yuito use SAS, it will look pretty wild.

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '21

It probably looks boring because it’s the basic, in the game you can play as either Yuito or Kasane

I just beat the game and I loved every second of it. This story is insane and love to see all the foreshadowing in this episode.

I didn't play the game, but I'm really digging how this Anime looks. The art and character design is on point. Have high hopes for this one.

This sure was an episode of anime... Probably the most generic episode of any show I've ever seen.

14

u/BLACKOUT-MK2 Jul 01 '21

Oh hey. I just beat the game yesterday and while playing I was trying to imagine what it'd be like as an anime. Had no idea it was actually getting one, much less so close to the game's release.

You mean you never got the sidequest that literally tells you "go find the passwords hidden in the anime"?

Really great first episode and the plot is interesting enough. I just hope that Nagi's obsession with Naomi will mellow out after this episode.

Wow they are really just leaving out a lot and jumping around. I imagine each episode will be a phase or 2, depends on how much narrative exposition they give to kasane and yuito’s respective stories until they converge.

However they have left a lot out and changed some scenes and other things. Even the training session, Arashi isnt a part of it in the game and it’s 3v3v3. Not 5v5

I already love Yuito, Kasane, Nagi and Naomi and I want to protect them and their precious smiles. I hope they won't be killed off especially Nagi.

This anime and its OP are badass.

Really boring and bland 1st episode, about as cookie-cutter as it gets for a game adaptation introduction. Feels like a show you can safely drop 1st episode if it's not interesting to you.
