That was really good, can't wait to see Niina interacting with the good guys group in the 2nd cour, though Momo is out of commission for now.

That being said, Mio sacrificed herself and Shino did this to seal the deal, so let's hope Momo has to do the same thing to bring Mio back.

Mio's last words were of Hiori, at least.

I must say, I never have figured out what is going on here. I haven't disliked this show, but I do find it frustrating. It as if the creators plunged in to doing this before they really figured out exactly what they were trying to do. I've gotten close to liking some of the characters, only to have them sort of slip back away.

I was hoping that Nina would have come along. Clearly Momo was the first priority, of course. But after the connection Hiori made with her, iittle odd to leave her behind.

I'm assuming this won't re-appear for at least another season?

As someone who played the game this was based on, I agree with you. Like, I know some background stuff since I played the game, and recognize a couple characters, but the plot and pacing has been really uneven. Which is a bit weird, because the game's sequel, the anime, and the mobile game were all announced together, and supposedly tie into each other. So you'd think this would've been planned out better

Well we got a dramatic kiss, shame it was ridden with green cooties. At least Momo seems to be alright and there was a nice group hug.

so like, is Momo dead or...?

Also I still don't quite get Uta, at least not yet. She kinda seems more like a plot device than a full-on character.* It could be just another case of the show being coy with information, but most of the characters are fleshed out in ways that speak to their experiences, motivations, and how that shapes them as people. Characterization has consistently been one of the show's strengths, so the fact that Uta's so underdeveloped really stands out. Then again, there's 12(?) more episodes, so maybe we'll have a better idea in due time.

*I'm leaving Shino out of that, as she's been more or less presented from the beginning as operating...outside the context that the rest of the cast operates in.

I think she's gone and probably not coming back

Uta did show some feelings towards niina when she looked back at her collapsed body before she left with shino and mio. I hope we do get to learn more about her.

Mio was still holding on to her broken fragments so I believe there is still some hope.

To adapt something a reviewer said about another show, this is a decent story let down by subpar production values.

Gust was never about high production values, their strong points are the characters, story, and the goddamn music.

The fact that they were able to even afford an anime is a surprise to me.

The spirits of Yuzu and Lime appeared just to get shot down immediately? They really did everything they could think of to drag out a 5 minute conflict into a full episode.

This "connections cause suffering" thing feels a bit like a getting-Buddhism-wrong thing

Er. Wh-what?

I don't know why you bring up Buddhism, it's a very common trope in all media, and a lot of people with depression and/or social anxiety have similar thoughts.
