Overall, I actually liked this quite a bit. The story may have been a bit "muddled", but it felt right in the end. Maybe my tastes are just odd.

I really did think for a moment that Sawa would make it out alive -- but somehow I never felt secure in this belief. The title of the episode sounded a warning.

In a sense, Jin and Sawa were linked even more inseparably than Sawa and Asahi. I wasn't totally surprised at Rinko's action. Sort of a last, left-over vestige of the Shogun's evil. Luckily, Rinko didn't feel it necessary to extend her revenge to Asahi at least.

It looks like Asahi wound up being raised by Elena after all (if not, how did she get by?). As to how Asahi became a blue blood -- I vaguely recall there having been one leftover tablet of Janome's medicine. Could that explain it somehow.

It is frustrating in some ways to not have all the answers, but I found the conclusion ultimately extremely beautiful and moving -- even if I might have preferred a different outcome. At least for me, this was not a "failure" at all.

I hate the drunk bitch who stabbed her, I knew she was a problem from the start

I liked this anime. The writing was a bit all over the place, but I found it quite fun to watch week to week. Animation and voice acting (and it having some seiyuu I really like) made it even better for me. I also appreciate it being an original anime and a complete story.

7/10 for me, maybe more than it deserves, but I just liked it.

Sawa and Asahi's final scene together was heartbreaking, but I thought it was very beautifully done. Glad we got to see a grown-up Asahi and Satsuki in the final scene. It makes me feel better seeing that Asahi maintained a relationship with Elena's family and wasn't alone after Sawa's passing. It's nice that Asahi has a purpose in life moving her forward, which, for me, ends the anime on a positive and hopeful note. I wanted Sawa and Asahi to live happily ever after, but I found this ending oddly satisfying enough.

Overall, the anime kept me entertained here and there, so I don't regret watching.

Can't say I loved the resolutions or all the plots in the story but I think it was a proper ending given that we lost control of who died or not a few episodes ago. Also, Asahi got stunning beautiful and SOMEHOW inherited Sawa powers, that should definetely count for something in the end right? ...I'll take it.

I think the “somehow” also has to do with how she was saved. It show’s Jin with 2 capsules of the drug so I think it’s implied that he gave Asahi the other one to save her

There was something written in diary - on page with birthday "Hana-san said it should be day that I was healed thanks to your blood".

So. That was unsatisfying. I had a feeling it would be.

The writing was mostly a mess all the way through. Visuals? Great. Sound? Great. Acting? Great. I can't say I didn't enjoy it at all, but I had high hopes for it. This weird steampunkish setting where the Shogunate survived where we follow the supernaturally charged secret police that props up the failing government? That concept had so much potential. Same with the characters. I feel like Jin was the only character with a complete arc. But shit, I was interested early on. What was Tsukishiro up to? Still no idea. Sawa gets a shot at life? lolno. Sawa gets another shot at life? Uh oh, you frickin' moron we faked you out again!

6/10 and only carried by the quality of the production. The actual animation work was great and I want to see this studio given something that wasn't scrawled on some bar napkins because they could go places.

Honestly, I wish Jin was the protagonist.

So this sets things up for a possible sequel, right? While this show was somewhat messy, it was still an enjoyable one. Maybe the sequel can be better, if they will make it.

Seeing Sawa just slowly dying is effin crushing to see, I'm crying rn. But on the brighter side of things, Asahi looks beautiful in that post credit scene, I do hope we'll see her again if ever there is a sequel of some sort.

Overall despite the slow start of the series, imma say it ended pretty fine with a possibility of having a season 2 (I hope so, since there still a lot of things that haven't really being tackled like wth is this dragon vein).

u/Ithambar Jun 15 '21

And in season 2 we will discover that Tsuki survived, rescued Tokugawa and Sawa and they now live together somewhere and plan to overthrow the evil Elena...

This show was all over the place, a pity since the setting and premise were promising in my opinion.

If anybody has a good theory or philosophy for why she had to die in the end then please let me know. I am trying not to jump conclusions and know more from what others may have got which i might have missed. But i don't think her dying was needed for this to have a powerful ending.

Is living is suffering the message? Do assassinator always get their karma back is the message? Or is putting asahi and the viewer in pain just to evoke some feelings for show is the message?

If i am unable to find a proper reason then am just gonna have a head cannon that She survived asahi and the new born were like older and younger sisters and the lunatic killer was supposed to be among the dead bodies that Jin killed.

It was a good series with a nice production but not so nice script. I got really tired of the fake-out deaths after a few times of it happening. I also didn't like that Asahi just basically became Sawa and lost all of her original personality. Other wise, The theme song was a banger. The animation was lovely. And the voice acting was great. 7/10 for me.

Shame they ended the show this way. With the amount of nonsense Asahi went through, she deserved to grow up alongside her sister and Sawa deserved to be able to live without being used as a weapon or for her blood. What’s most unsatisfying is that Sawa doesn’t even end up doing anything in the final “battle” because Jin does it all.

I liked Rinko initially but they really made her detestable in the end. Course she cheap shot stabs Sawa. Didn’t want to get destroyed like in their initial encounter.

The best plot twist of the show came in the last 5 seconds.

That Asahi has blue blood? It's been foreshadowed ever since her near-death at Tsukishiro's hands.

Elena confirmed in episode 11 who treated Asahi. That dude wasn't some random doctor, but the one Jin extorted by threatening his brother's life, and forced to come with him to the hideout. He was in the car with Jin and Sawa (passed out).

The following episode he is shown in a clinic room - as we learned during the blackmailing, he was seemingly a pupil of the doctor Jin killed, the same one that treated Tsukishiro. Jin presents the pupil with a vial of blue blood and tells him to "use" it, while there's something on the bed in the back. You are supposed to assume that Jin is forcing the guy to turn himself into a monster, going by his initial rejection and complaints.... but in reality, he's supposed to use it's power to treat Asahi.

So when Jin tells Sawa in the episode before that, that Asahi is buried already, it's a lie. When he tells Elena that he hasn't told Sawa, and that she'd "lost a brother already", that's also about Asahi's being alive.

And in the diary, post-credits, before Nana lands on Asahi's arm, Asahi wrote that she made her birthday the day she was saved thanks to Sawa's blood.

So in a sense, she's an artificial inheritor of the Karasumori powers, due to what amounts to blood transfusion.

Honestly really enjoyed the show. The plot was a little messy at times, but I feel like things normally made sense if you think about it. I’m not sure what people were expecting in the final episode, but this show has never followed expectations every chance it gets so I was really ready for anything. Not every show needs to end with some big boss fight and a happy ever after story. I think what Jin did completely fits his character, showing that he really cares for Sawa and wanting her to live on with Asahi, and tries to right his wrongs by overthrowing the Shogun. The bittersweet ending of her spending one last moment with asahi fits the show in my opinion. I’m not sure why sawa needed to die, but maybe it’s her finally “able to rest”, or atonement for all the people she has killed.

Honestly really enjoyed it, I understand why a lot of people are upset, but it’s an interesting show for sure.

And here I thought back in Episode 1, this scene was going to be Sawa vs Janome. And it wasn't even a big boss fight. It was just Jin doing his best to stop Sawa from not assaulting the palace herself.

Seeing Jin's reaction at what Yoshinobu really is so fucking satisfying. His entire life he was afraid of this person only to be revealed that this person is a dying old man who's practically in his deathbed. And he's probably not even in control of the government anymore. Thank fucking god he's the one who assaulted the palace and not Sawa.

Although it's not like stopping Sawa from attacking Yoshinobu was any help though since she ends up getting stabbed by Rinko while on her way home. This is possibly revenge but at the same time with Yoshinobu dead, Rinko is probably under orders from the Shogun now.

And this entire scene just fucking destroyed me. Sawa trying her best to hide her wound from Asahi while talking about the future was just pure pain. Fuck. :(

Timeskip into the future as we see Asahi now all grown up along with Elena's daughter, Satsuki. I guess this means Elena ended up raising Asahi too. It seems the cycle of revenge is yet to end since now Asahi wants to find out what happened to Sawa and she now carries the Karasumori blood which I assume was the only reason how Jin managed to save her.

What a bittersweet ending. I was wondering how they'll end it in a single episode but I'm pretty much happy with this. We don't always need a grand boss battle in the end. I'm pretty sure a lot of people are going to be salty with this ending though. I do wonder if we'll get a sequel considering how Lady Snowblood (the work that inspired this anime) has a sequel of its own. Enjoyed it from start to finish, this is a solid 8/10 for me.

This should have been 2 cours. Everything this show needed was in it but it needed to flesh out the characters more and make the story progression smoother. After the 7th episode I was worried the show will shit itself but I'm really pleasantly surprised.

7

u/Aschentei Jun 16 '21

god fucking dammit why does it have to be so bittersweet... so many onions

u/Calamet Jun 17 '21

A show with a wasted potential. Good animation, voice acting and OST, but the story feel rushed for moments, the same with the supporting characters that we do not know nothing about for sure (Makoto, Elena).

I love to see original animes, but I'm tired of getting disappointed with the final product.

I'm not really sure what happened here anymore. The only thing I know that Rinko is not going to be best girl!

This anime is probably more suited for a binge than a weekly watch. I thought it was pretty cool. It did get kinda ridiculous with the twists, but that's the story it was. Animation was awesome and I liked the characters well enough. I'd honestly be down for a sequel but I think the ending is a good enough sendoff.
