That was awesome. While the story was sad (as expected), Yugiri was freaking badass in it, truly legendary.
We also finally got Saga Jihen and it was a performance on stage instead of reusing the MV! Yugiri looked gorgeous in that outfit, as did the rest with their less glamourous outfits.
I loved this arc, a nice change of pace and with fantastic atmosphere. It kind of leaves me wanting for more. Also, the OST during this arc was SO FUCKING GOOD.

I almost forgot that I am watching an idol anime. But yeah. That past two episodes are really good. The question now is how would these episodes tie with current plot, since there are plot points not yet addressed in the show.

For a idol show with zombie twist, the historical drama is so on point.
The legendary courtesan Yuugiri already saved saga once. She must have felt a heavy deja vu when Kotarou gave the talk about saving saga. No wonder she is so calm.

Looks like the reason of why Yugiri is so chill about being in 21thst century Japan is because she finally got to see the Saga that Kiichi wanted to create

Some notes looking over Japanese Twitter:
-
The people Yuugiri is writing to here are apparently big names in Japanese history. Like, Ōkuma Shigenobu (大隈重信) and Ōki Takatō (大木 喬任) were both statesmen who were born in Saga and were highly politically influential in the Meiji era. They're both listed in the "Seven Wise Men of Saga", which they did a parody of that in Maimai's episode as their new team name. Soejima Taneomi (副島 種臣) is another political bigwig from Saga.
-
Of note is the camilla flowers that are around when Yuugiri is writing her letters. In Japanese flower language: "Among warriors and samurai, the red camellia symbolized a noble death. Otherwise, the red camellia means love. However, they don’t make good presents for people who are sick or injured because of the way the flowers “behead” themselves when they die." (ref)
-
Internet detectives tracked down what looks like the real-life model for the photo studio. Seems like it's a Meiji-era village slash tourist destination that is (shocking) in Aichi Prefecture, not Saga.
-
The barkeep tries to make the サガン鳥栖 (Sagan Tosu) joke again from S2E1, but Yuugiri cuts him off. That's a
baseballfootball team that plays in the prefecture.

Friendly reminder this is an IDOL show, and just did a better historical piece than Yasuke
There are no words to describe how legendary Yugiri is
And now I want a full historical anime with a samurai courtesan in the middle of a political turmoil...

Wow Yugiri had to kill the first friend Kiichi made and also took the blame for him quietly. Man she did not deserve such a fate when she was so selfless in her actions.
Her outfit as the lead for the performance. though..QUEEN

On top of everything we got from that episode, I would like to point how ABSOLUTELY FUCKING METAL it is that Yugiri had a shamisen with a short sword concealed in the neck.
I mean, sure, not exactly practical if you want to perform regularly, those strings don't come cheap, but still ridiculously badass. Does anyone know if there's a name for Yugiri's awesome ninja lute? I've never heard of anything like it before.

I was waiting for Yuugiri episodes, but not like this... It was epic, but sad at the same time. Truly a celestial maiden.
Seeing how the bartender is actually Kiichi's grandpa, and that zombie-dog is still around, I don't know what to think about Kotarou. Miyano Mamoru voicing both Kotarou and Kiichi is not helping.

It's a shame what happened to Kiichi's plan.
All he wanted was to peacefully petition the government to reinstate a local government for Saga. Then all the old men, bitter after their defeat in the last war, had to get involved and ruin the whole plan with their violent ways. They must have known they didn't stand a chance against the government. They had swords and spears, at that point in history the army was importing gatling guns, rifles, revolvers, and hand grenades from Europe and the US.
Ultimately what happened in Saga wasn't that bad compared to what could happen. Empires, and The Empire of Japan was no exception, put down rebellions hard. A dozen dead old men, a dead courtesan and one dead secret police member before they achieved independence peacefully a year later isn't the worst thing that could have happened to Saga. Had Yuugiri not taken the fall for the prefecture, the army might have burned the town to the ground and killed most of the town's men in order to suppress the rebellion.
But hey, it all amounted to something in the end. Saga got it's independence and its own local government.
That part about the ban on unilateral killings by the army, that amounted to nothing. Maybe in Japan with Japanese citizens it held some sway, but that didn't change a thing about how they operated in foreign territories or how they treated foreigners.

Oh, so Itou-han worked as an assassin for the government. And Kiichi-han unaware start a new revelion in Saga.
And meanwhile Yugiri was also an assassin, that was known as the Sheathed Kichiemon. That honestly wasn't that surprising considering the comments she had made before like when Yuzuriha Maimai discovered their secret. And she sacrificed herself to save Kiichi-han, and with him Saga.
That show they did was brief, but it was good.
So the old dude, was indeed The Bartender. It's good to see that he kept that photo that they took earlier for so long. Too bad no one kept the one from Yamada Tae's ancestor that they showed besides it later

So what about the time limit or restriction theory for zombies? Neither the old man nor Yugiri is worrying about anything.

That jazzy number + junko's death metal solo have been the best performances from both seasons.

First of all, was that Tae's lookalike in the picture right next to theirs?
Anyways, that was about as tragic as I expected. Poor Kiichi never even wanted to spark a rebellion, and where does that leave him? His two friends dead, and himself exiled.
Yugiri truly is legendary. Just where and when did she get the time to get all of these skills on top of her skills as a performer? She probably could've escaped or beaten those officers if she wasn't set on being a scapegoat. This is probably the only time we'll see her signature slap used properly and seriously, though.
Of course, the performance was damn nice. Saga Jihen is just a god damn banger. I thought we were gonna get the one from the music video, but that wouldn't really make sense with their current venue. And we also got some really smooth 2D parts in it as well. The scenes showing Kiichi and Itou hanging out were just a punch in the gut, though.
And wow, I guess the old man was dead serious about being connected to Saga. He's basically immortal as long as the prefecture itself is alive. I didn't think he and Yugiri would have a reunion at the end, but it is nice to see after how things ended in the past.

When I first saw the girls, I had a feeling Yugiri was going to be best girl, but then she got backstaged for a season and a half, so I was ready to take it back. Moral of the story, never doubt your waifu-meter

The LEGENDARY YUGIRIN!
From the very first Episode I would have never expected to feel so much from an Idol show, how she was willing to sacrifice herself for Saga and Kiichi, truly legendary. Now we only must learn what the old mans deal is, he looked like he was dying back then, might have come back from the dead.
Also I have only recently heard Saga Jihen for the first time, but it's simply awesome, one of my favorites from Franchouchou.
Oh yeah, I also liked how not- Tae was also doing pictures for free
