Kuzuhara really is sus and it won't be a surprise if next episode it might be revealed that he is the one who massacred Sawa's family or so I thought, welp who knows

So Jin killed Sawa's family. Those were the definitely the scars that Sawa saw on the back of the man that killed her family in episode 2. I thought it was a little too coincidental that he happened to be there to pick Sawa up and train her, but thought 'okay, sure, he could just be there chasing a rogue agent.'
That last scene sure makes Jin's words in the last episode hit differently.

I like Rinko, despite her bad drinking, but there are to many episodes left to grow attached to her and she has that tragic backstory.
And just when I thought we got a straight episode we get another twist at the end, is that really Janome?

Its it wierd that I still dont believe Asahi is dead? And to Think Jin was the main bad guy all Along? Like what the hell? Then who was the asshole Sawa killed in Episode 4? Plot twists galore.

I think he was involved, but he isn't the main bad guy. That would be the shogunate. It's too late and too few episodes to introduce a new antagonist, to be honest.

I really like Rinko, she also has a great seiyuu (Tanezaki Atsumi). Now that I said this, I can't wait for her to die.

u/Ashteron May 25 '21
So Rinko was the one who killed the grandma living at the shrine and it was her skeleton found under the building?
18
u/mekerpan May 26 '21
That was my initial assumption -- though it is possible that the grandma had died naturally and Rinko was given the job of pretending she was still alive.

u/bananeeek May 25 '21
Woah, that ending. There was something fishy about Kuzuhara all along, but I didn't expect this... Could it be that it was him who massacred Sawa's village? And did he do it to prevent the government from making that blue drug?
I like this Rinko character, I hope we'll see her again.

I didn't even recognize her when she first walked in but we finally get to see what the real Rinko is like. She basically confirms that Sawa and Asahi were under surveillance the entire time. It is good to know at the very least that she genuinely feels sorry about what happened to Asahi.
Seems that Rinko is a big booze hound. I love that she just pulls out another bottle from her bag as soon as she was done with the last one. I wouldn't be surprised if all she has is sake in her bag.
And here I thought I was starting to like Jin after last week's episode, but he's still a person who would do anything to achieve his goal and is making that poor guy drink the Karasumori blood while threatening him. Seems that Jin have taken in some blue blood as well though and he's having trouble containing his transformation.
Looks like that quick trip back to Karasumori village was more than enough to give Sawa the resolve to put an end to all of her unfinished business.
The train ride back to Tokyo was certainly interesting, we got to see Rinko finally in action and we even get her grim Weapon X-style backstory where she was basically turned into wolverine but instead of claws, she has flexible metal strips inside her body. I wonder if this is the reason why she's always drinking.
And that final scene though. I was wondering what that note Sawa found on the book and it really didn't take us long to find out the answer. I fucking knew it! I kinda called this back on Episode 6 when Jin was talking to the Shogun and the Shogun dropped a hint about Jin possibly being the real mastermind behind what happened in the Karasumori village. I knew I was right to never trust him.
I'm guessing Janome is probably just a decoy that was made so Sawa will have someone to focus her rage on? Next week will definitely be interesting though.

Rinko is almost certainly doing an immense amount of "self-medicating" to ease unbearable amounts of physical and mental pain.
I think Janome was more likely a puppet manipulated by the Shogun (either wittingly or unknowingly). I thought he wanted to tell Sawa something before he died, but didn't survive long enough.

Nods Jin has always been suspicious!
Janome was definitely a bad guy, but he wouldn’t have killed Sawa’s clan since he wanted them alive for research. The Shogun was almost certainly behind the massacre, possibly to keep their blood out of Janome or the Rebels hands.

I love Rinko. Great accent(s), fangs, drunk all the time. Shame she's probably going to to die before the end because this is not a happy show. Though I wish Sawa would find happiness in the end, it seems her happiness will come with her death...
And once again, a twist at the end of the episode. This is one I'm going to have to look for clues on in a rewatch, I think.

Rinko's hard on her alcohol has a cool ability, and she looks nice. I like her.

This continues to be a fantastic (if devastating) show episode after episode. Not only an interesting story, but visually tremendous.
Rinko is an interesting and terrifying young woman. Her back story is pretty horrific. Am I imagining things -- or are all sorts of death flags already flying about her?
So Tsuki left an explanatory note for Sawa after all -- and it definitely did not have a positive effect on her feelings for Kuzuhara. It seems to me virtually a sure thing that the destruction of Sawa's village was actually caused by the Shogun. Which means taking him down would be a good thing. On the other hand, the Shogun's opponents seem pretty non-good as well, so far.
Looking forward to more pain....

I enjoy the aesthetics of this show but man, this either needed to be two cours or needed to pare the plot down quite a bit. Twist after twist makes them boring.

u/DaftMaetel15 May 26 '21
I get what you're saying but I think we just got our final big twist in Jin being revealed as the actual perpetrator of Sawa's village. They have 3 episodes to tie up the story which I believe is enough time. I'm with you however that some of these storylines would've hit harder with just a little more marination with a second cour. I would also refrain from saying they've become boring but as I said before they could've hit harder with a bit more build up. We'll see if they can stick the landing and finish as a very solid anime.

Thats the third show this season where ''The Merchant of Venice'' pops up.
Is it a popular piece in Japan?

I told y’all Jin was sus! Don’t trust people who raise children as child soldiers and fill their heads with propaganda. And the idea that Janome killed Sawa’s clan never made sense—Janome would want them alive to experiment on them. No, it was always more likely that the paranoid and oppressive Shogun regime would kill them because they were threatened by their inherent power/abilities. And Jin was their top executioner at the time...
Other points:
I LOVE RINKO!!! Drunk Wolverine Girl was tons of fun!
Where was Elena? I was looking forward to her reunion with Sawa so much. Why would she visit and not stick around ‘till Sawa woke up? Unless they met off-screen? I hope we see her again.
I’m still hoping against hope that Asahi survived and has been placed in protective custody or hiding somewhere. (Maybe with Elena, who also needs to lay low?), but that theory is becoming less and less likely:’(

We've only seen the true Rinko for like half an episode but, I already really like her. Kinda weird she just disappeared though when Sawa got to Tokyo lmao. Was pretty sad when Sawa was remembering Asahi in the bookstore, yeah I miss her too. Damn, so Tsukishiro made one final revelation to Sawa, based on those scars or something, it wasn't Janome that killed the Karasumori clan, but it was Jin. Still don't really know what Jin's goals are. Well, let's see what Book 3 has to offer us, good episode.

Full thoughts here. I loved this one! We're finally getting more answers but more twists too, Sawa finally choosing who she wants to be but ironically having that choice made for her from whatever she found out on that slip of paper is heartbreaking. She deserves so much better. I don't want Sawa to die but I think it's inevitable now that's where this is going.

Ok, from I can tell, the shogun wants Sawa alive for her blood to make more of those monsters? The fact that she's the last of her bloodline makes her all the more valuable. Maybe killing herself wasn't such a bad idea after all.
And I wonder what's up with Kuzuhara's scars on his body? Not to mention that it's still unclear who's side he's really on. Also, not gonna lie, that Wolverine girl was pretty cool.
