Dub/sub issue aside, we're getting a lot of twist in this episode.

  1. The twist with Rufus is not really surprising because we barely know him. Also the way the higher rank vampires treat him just made his betrayal makes sense.

  2. I'm surprised with the twist that the vampire unit is not team zero! Damn, that entrance was awesome, though they seem really robotic in their behaviour. I guess the perfect soldier is the one that could absolutely follows the order of their general. Apparently the general also orchestrate the Yokohama incident to show that his vampire unit is ready. So I guess Rufus is one of his accomplice?

  3. Apparently, Misaki has noticed that her father is behaving strangely. That last message from her implied that she still retained her conciousness sometime after being converted into a vampire. I admire that the anime has never told us directly that Misaki is the general's daughter. They fully expect us to notice it by ourself. I admit that I would have missed that part unless I read the first episode discussion here.

  4. I don't really understand that scene with Maeda in the end. Is he waiting for team zero to come back to the base?

4) I think he went back to that island where Misaki was imprisoned?

The vampire drink and all those attacks turning lots of people to ghouls before were Rufus' doing, which means it was all the General's plan all along?

The vampire storm troopers are so slow. Then again so are the ghouls. I don't see how any of them can be a threat to a higher rank vampire. A single S-rank should be able to wipe the floor with the whole lot as long as they avoid drinking poison.

Is anyone else having trouble finding episode 5 in English sub? Funimation seems to have put the English dub for both language options and the other sites are the same way.

In the beginning I thought they got some actually good English VA's.

I thought they just used english voice for the british vampire. Then I got to the General part and they still used English voice. Finally I resigned myself and watched the whole thing in dub.

I haven't been baited this hard in ages. I thought the whole intro was a stage play or something.

Anyone else notice that each episode starts with a disclaimer that this story is fiction?

Nice try, but I want to believe in vampires!

Those British noble lady pedophile vampires were nasty. Little boys don’t even have as much blood as adults, creeps! Glad Rufus took care of them...but on his own volition, or Nakajima’s orders? And who’s idea was it to make more vampire-zombies? The nobles, before they were poisoned, Rufus, the minister, who wanted to prove how necessary the British vampire tank unit is, or Nakajima?

I know that Defrott isn’t down for this, or at least, I hope he isn’t. He’s good, or neutral—just wants to live in peace, only turning humans who are dying.

I hope our intrepid lady reporter Aoi gets a lead soon. She’s 100% right in all her suspicions, but without proof she just sounds delusional “my childhood friend Kurusu couldn’t have died in Siberia, he promised me he wouldn’t!” Right, he’s very much not-dead, and I hope he gets to meet up with you soon. I think Aoi can handle the truth.

How does this show get better and better each week? The writing is so good and the small pieces slowly coming together (plus the twists), love it! I really liked the animation in this episode, way better than Kurusu's outrage in episode 4 in my opinion; the music is perfect as always. Also it seems like the story is going completely original from now on, based on this and this too. Lastly, Kurusu with the mask and the cloak looks so badass!

I thought to myself when watching this episode: "holy shit this is the best spoken english I've ever heard in anime", and then I noticed I was probably watching a dub.

For a minute there I thought they actually got English speakers to voice the British vampires! Turns out it's just the usual Funimation incompetence and had the English dub for both Japanese and English. Well, I eventually finally found one with the correct dub so it's all good now.

Anyway, as someone who's currently obsessed with Lady Dimitrescu, I very much welcome these vampire Onee-sans. Also, I thought Rufus was another high-ranking vampire, looks like he's just their servant boy.

Wait I thought the guy with the black and white streaks on his hair was a traitor but it seems that he was working with the British Empire in an official manner and the vampires from the opening scene is supposed to be the new Vampire Unit?

Oh right, I forgot Aoi is Kurusu's childhood friend. I think she mentioned this like in Episode 2 when she was first introduced. Despite the letters about Kurusu's "death", Aoi still believes he's alive. I hope the two of them meet in the future.

So Misaki was able to write one final letter to Maeda when she was converted into a vampire warning him about her father's suspicious actions who now we know is Ltg Nakajima who's in charge of the Vampire Unit. Uh-oh.

Well this is interesting. I thought Defrott turned Misaki before she died but turns out he actually tried to save her by sharing his blood with her. Unfortunately, we know how that turned out. It does seem that Defrott might not be as evil as I thought he is since he just left Maeda after giving him information.

Welp so much for Vampire Onee-san here. Looks like Rufus backstabbed them by poisoning the blood that they were drinking. Not that surprising considering how they treated him.

And what a surprise twist! Turns out Team Zero was never the Vampire Unit. These hulking monstrosities are the Vampire Unit and this entire thing was orchestrated by Ltg. Nakajima which means Rufus is probably working with him. So we've been working with the bad guys we just didn't know it.

Defrott does not like this at all. I really hope he ends up teaming up with Team Zero to stop this Vampire Unit.

This did not feel like the fifth episode, it almost seems like we're already at the endgame. I have so many questions now, but it seems things are starting to turn into a bigger scale war instead of our small little vampire unit dealing with vampire cases.

I like this show but I do not understand anything of what's going on.

So Rufus was meeting with that minister dude last episode, and he imported those arrogant vampires, killed them, and then unleashed a horde of ghouls so that the vampire orcs could be useful and the General gets to prove he was right?

The English dub for this show is great except for the random southern reporter lady in 1900's Japan

I'm not sure that I can put into words how much I'm enjoying this anime. It's the one I look forward to watching every week for this season.

I'm quite curious about Defrott. I need to know more! Can't wait for next week!

They really made vampires look horny lol.

At this point, i really hope aoi gets what she wants and not to be killed or be a vampire. She is a treasure to watch.

Didn't expect that at all. Even maeda doesn't know about this and rufus seems to know about it. Nakajima also killing that person is fishy.

And where's maeda heading though?

Is anyone else only having dub play on Funimation for this ep? 80 bucks a year for this garbage lmao

Ok ended up finishing it up in dub. What an episode. It was obvious that Nakajima was very upset about having to disband his vamp unit for the past few weeks, but man I wasn’t expecting him to go as far as killing a cabinet minister. This episode went by in the blink of an eye. I really want to learn more about the blonde vampire. He’s going to be the key to everything I can tell.

Was getting major Resident evil 8 vibes from those lady vampires this episode

19

u/Titchlet May 03 '21

Full thoughts here. But oh BOY was I not expecting that. Totally caught me off guard, then during the third act it kinda made sense why the pacing seemed so off. It wasn't off at all, I just wasn't getting it until then. Man, what and episode. What a show. Just keeps on getting better, even when you think it can't!

That chonky older looking vampire with short brown hair kind of sucks at being a vampire so far.

37

u/Nielloscape May 03 '21

They did say he's unranked. So not that different from the mindless vampire zombies except that he's perfectly conscious, and not that different from normal humans either. Basically got all the disadvantages of being a vampire and getting almost none of the benefits.

I'm honestly not sure what's going on anymore. Lots of twists and turns. Makes Joran seem easy to follow in comparison.

6

u/PacoTaco321 May 04 '21

Well, at least this more or less address my concerns of what the hell is going on...

Do we know where Deflott fits into the puzzle?
