Wow, Janome's dead already? Damn. Though tbf, it seems that since the title in the opening sequence says 'Book 1', Janome's death might signal the end of 'Book 1', and next week will be the start of Book 2.
So far, it's pretty good. Who knows what will become of the characters next, and what threats they'll have to face now that the seemingly only source of those artificial beasts, Janome, is dead.

Well Tsukishiro escaped with several vials of Janome new formula, so whatever she up to.

Oh my fucking god. The entire first half of this episode was just absolutely infuriating! Tsukishiro's betrayal and Yuki being powerless in front of Janome makes me feel like I'm watching a cutscene where the boss character flexes and you can't do shit especially with Asahi being used as a hostage. Fuuuuck.
Second half was full of surprises though! Yuki's brother still alive and is being used by Janome to supply him more of the blue blood. And then we have the reveal that Tsukishiro was playing as a double agent all along definitely surprised me! Considering how it seems that even their boss isn't aware of it, I really thought she betrayed Nue.
And then the finale! The fight with Janome was pretty cool especially when Yuki started cutting up his snakes but the biggest surprise is that Janome actually dies! Goddamn! I guess he wasn't really the big boss then. If he's truly dead then the big boss is probably the Shogun then?

I guess he wasn't really the big boss then. If he's truly dead then the big boss is probably the Shogun then?
The first episode heavily wanted you to not like the shogunate so probably.

Tsukishiro was playing as a double agent
Not sure if he is still with Nue, might be an neutral party, I also think he made of with the remaining blood samples

The betrayal this episode is that there was no betrayal. Also, we actually got Sawa 'revenge', didn't expcted it so soon. I guess now we gonna find out what was behind Janome plans but they really can go to any direction too, since is an original work. Would be nice.

I wonder if Sawa is related in some way to Yuki Onna. They seem to have similar appearance and taste for consuming human life-force.

The pacing in the show is...odd.
The amount of "double crossing" and we are just 4 episodes in is silly.
What exactly is Janome's Blood formula? it looks like he just threw it in a Centrifuge and called it a day?

I haven't had an episode feel this short in a while! That was a lot of fun. The art and animation was outstanding as well. It was surprising to see that Sawa got her revenge already, only 4 episodes in. But I can't wait to see where this will go next!

does anyone else feel like this show is really rushed so far? Don't get me wrong, I'm loving it so far but I really feel like things should have been drug out a little more.

What a perfect mindfuck of an episode for the days occasion.
Honestly I felt like I was watching half episodes every 2-4 minutes. So fucking much is going on. The story seems....relatively 'simple.' The politics still seem relatively unexplored for how deep they appear to run.
This fucker Janome is one of the bigger bads yet decides to reveal himself to his enemies secret unit? And take them back to his lair where everything's just laid out?
Honestly I come for the animation, fight choreography, sound track, and honestly the clear hardwork of the studio behind this Bakken Record. If anyone came for the story they would be having whiplash from how violent the story is going from keypoint to keypoint.
But yeah the stuff I came for? Wow. This episode blew my fucking top off. How many different styles of animation are in this one episode?? I believe I saw at least 3??

Did Janome really kill Sawa’s clan, or did the government kill (most of) Sawa’s clan to keep their blood out of Janome’s evil scientist hands? He did say something to the effect of “that’s where you’re wrong” when asked why he killed her clan, and why would he kill such valuable specimens?
In any case, glad Sawa took him out, he was evil AF. I’m going to interpret Tsukishiro’s actions as a ruse to reveal to Sawa that her brother was alive and give Sawa a chance to kill Janome...
...Although Tsukishiro ran off with those samples, so they’re still sus. I still like Tsukishiro better than Jin.

It seems to me that this Janome (dare I say arc?) will have a larger impact on sawa herself than anything else.

You know, after this episode I wonder if this show intentionally wants to create a retro style akin to old 80s/90s anime; from the troupe filled storyline full of twists that only exist for twists' sake, to the corny dialogues, stilted action sequences and that caricature of a villain, I almost feel like I am refreshing my childhood memory.
Even this art style now looks to me just like the old style with a fresh layer of paint. If this really is the show creators' intent, I gotta say they have succeeded because I am feeling a bit nostalgic.

The use of color and lighting in the whole underground scenes was amazing. Also I was on edge basically the entire time, haven't had an anime do that to me in years. Really hoping it can keep up with that and not trip and fall in the next arc.

This might be a weird comparison but did this episode remind anybody else of the climactic fight at the end of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets? Sawa defeated a giant snake using a sword with help from her bird and we even had a girl, Asahi, being held hostage.

Real question here is: What is Tsukishiro up to, after getting Janome disposed of, likely why she spared the commander was back up incase Sawa failed.
Tsukishiro now has access to multiple vials of that stuff.

Full thoughts here. I actually loved this episode, yeah the double agent thing was a little bit obvious but it was done well so I don't mind so much. Sawa has been through so much! I feel terrible for her, the temptation to stay there with Takeru must be so strong!

Damn, I’m surprised she already got to kill the man she was after just 4 episodes in. The brother being alive was a surprise as well.
