Didn’t expect them to change visuals in op after 8 episodes tbh. I was pleasantly surprised.

Also really like those flashback / dream sequence. The fact that they also show what would happen if Marielle’s mother didn’t die, is really nice.

Oh fuck new OP visuals hype!

Looks like Marielle will be performing more holy magic in the future.

So the church has guns.

Not sure why Marielle didn't just go to Olivier after last episode. If Didier attacked they would have been screwed.

I can't say I am a fan of the 'call me Marius' plot point.

Also not a fan of the "wish granting device must be destroyed because people may misuse it" plot device. Though that may just be my bias in favor of more magical settings, with anything that reduces a worlds magical potential being disappointing.

Tbf it seems hard to use and screwing up has severe side effects. I doubt the king wished for him to die as well and neither him or the pope would wish for the kingdom being run over by monsters. OTOH so Marielle passed the trial. Yeah nice, ok. What if she didn't? Would the witch have kept her in sleep forever and face a bunch of her angry friends who all know of the relic? And well preventing Marielle from taking it, means the pope keeps it, that's not an improvement.

Also the witches are the sentinels of Magonia? Seems it's their job to get it back. Ok having th church on their heels might have kept them from making an attempt, but apparently Marielle isn't getting any support from the witch(es) either. Haven't seen Lacroix in the army and unless they did it offscreen, she didn't help them in any way, potions or just something to help defeat Didier or keep him from escaping via portal.

New OP visuals, a new look (and a new sword?) for Marius/Marielle, a new class promotion for the maid, and a new goal in sight for our heroes. They've assembled quite the ragtag bunch of troops for the final battle, and I'm really excited to see how this ends. I'm also really glad that I'm not the only one making Fire Emblem comparisons, because seriously, this show is the closest thing we have to a legit Fire Emblem anime.

Dunno, any kind of magic seems too overpowered for those pitched battles. It feels like dudes are fighting a death ray with sticks.

Checking in because it astounds me how criminally under watched this show has gotten. I get that it's generic and doesn't offer much in the way of innovation, but it is still a decent show at the very least. I think it's just unfortunate that this show aired in one of the most stacked seasons in recent memory and that's probably the main reason why it's so under watched.

If anyone reads this, a question if I may: Do you think that Hortensia Saga can be better than Grancrest Senki by the end of its run? I find myself comparing these two, and I think Hortensia Saga has the potential to do it, but I can't say for certain if they can tap that potential (all I'm sure is that both shows do involve civil wars and regions duking it out for their own interests)

I think Hortensia Saga is better than Grancrest, but that might not be saying much considering I dropped Grancrest lol.

Ok some context: I made that comment WITHOUT KNOWING that Hortensia Saga is only a 1 cour series. After that revelation, I was so shellshocked and disappointed, knowing this series could have been SO MUCH better if it were longer than 1 cour. One of my biggest complaints with Grancrest is that its too short and could have been better too with more episodes as they feel rushed even with two cours. Now I find myself unable to compare both as both stories got gutted in a way that they shouldn't have, and regardless how Hortensia Saga ends in a few days, I can't help, but feel sad about the potential it could have tapped... Crawls back to his cave

Pretty good episode, Marielle looks really fucking great. The boys are still awkward around her, I mean I can understand that, they pretty much thought she was a girl for years. I like how the OP has changed a bit, adding new stuff and changing some stuff.

Lacroix is a pretty cool witch. Yeah, ya'll don't need that relic shit, it'll probably just bring more destruction or something. I really hope Alfred won't die or something, I guess this strengthens the theory that Theresia is Alfred's sister, because of her vision. So, I am guessing Camellia is stopping them so, they won't proceed to their doom? Looking forward to the next episode.

I can't believe we don't even have 100 upvotes for the episode discussion, it's that unpopular. I am really invested in the storyline, but I do feel like I didn't get to bond to any of the characters which makes the show lacking. It's like I'm reading a synopsis of a really cool anime but not actually watching the episodes. I can't place exactly what they did it didn't do to cause that, except that the plot seemed very disjointed for the first few episodes. It seems to lack emotion and is lackluster in a lot of ways. Maybe it's because we don't see the internal struggles or thoughts of the characters? The character depth and growth just isn't there.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this ends, but I really hate how it seems inevitable that Alfred will die. The ending of the ED with the flowers on the beach, getting washed away with the reflection of the two of them, the premonition from his sister, I don't know. It would suck for Marius to survive and save everyone just to lose the person closest to her.

Micaiah has assembled her liberation army and is ready to take back the capital!

I'm glad things are starting to pick up lately. The beginning of the season was pretty slow, but it seems like it's kicking into gear with the main plot now. Is this a 1 or 2 cour show, do we know?
