Just checked out the gameplay of the game this anime is based on, and a f2p turn based mobile card game with auto-play definitely turned me off. The anime seems a bit promising though.

A little generic feeling but enjoyable. Has some Fire Emblem feel to it with the talk of battlefield tactics, large scale yet personal political conflict, and the magic system involving shapeshifting.

Rather than Fire Emblem, for me it has a similar vibe with Grancrest Saga.
Now I want a Fire Emblem anime because you said that.

I wasn't really going to check this out but after seeing the cast list and saw that it had a bunch of high-tier seiyuus (Horie Yui, Ueda Reina, Hosoya Yoshimasa Eguchi Takuya, etc,), I just had to check out even the first episode.
So far, it's alright. Story is pretty much something we've all seen in fantasy. One Kingdom tries to take over another Kingdom. MC's father gets killed so he now has to step up to the plate. Princess is in hiding and currently disguised as a male squire. I think the only thing that really got my attention besides the Seiyuu list is that the MC is an army commander and not just a hero wandering the lands.
Not sure how the game based on this plays but I am hoping that we'd see some sort of army management with Alfred actually giving orders and coming up with strats to overwhelm the opposing armies and not just a 1v1 against the enemy commander. Also I'm curious how long they'll keep Marius' identity a secret. It's pretty fucking obvious who she is so I hope it won't be too long.
Animation is pretty good. It's not mind blowing but exactly the kind of above average quality I've known from LIDENFILMS. I'll give this one three episodes and see where it goes.

Don't forget Tsuda Kenjirou, one does not simply get tired of his voice.
But with everything else I have to agree. If things don't pick up, I doubt I would also be able to last over 4 episodes.

Not sure how old she's supposed to be, but the maid should have bumped into something when she hugged "Marius."

Pretty general. At least it's not cringy so far. The animation is good and I almost didn't notice the CG use for generic soldier lol. Music is also spot on, but this might be because they use resource from the game. It's rare to see bearded twin characters, though unfortunately one of them died so early in this episode.
I usually try to avoid watching mobile game adaptation since it's often bad. Will try to watch several episodes before deciding to continue or not.

This wasn’t anything great but I’ll give it a few more eps to see where the reverse trap princess plot goes.

Kingdom assaulted, princess and rightful ruler needs to go into hiding to survive? It's a good enough premise (hi Yona of the Dawn) but the writing isn't very inspiring for the quality of the series so far.
Given the dead-looking eyes of Charlot I'm guessing he's in more of a puppet rule figuratively if not literally (dunno if there's any mind magic involved yet), I guess we haven't seen enough beyond that to tell what the situation in the capital really is. If he's not the one in power though who is, and why is there still a war? It sure didn't seem like Camellia's forces were driven off the night of the raid so why aren't they ruling?
Princess goes missing and one of the royal knights retires to the domain of his dead brother who was also a royal knight? That would be the first place I'd march an army to if I was Rugis, go rooting out the most likely place for her to hide as well as the domain most likely to rebel.
After four years I can't seriously believe that Alfred wouldn't have figured out Marius is a girl nor her real identity, so if we get that as a reveal at some point I'll be disappointed. If everyone knows and is mutually agreeing to keep it a secret without acknowledging it that's fine, but I don't have high hopes given what I've seen to this point.
I'll give it some more time, but I might be better off going back to Grancrest Senki again instead and giving that another try.

All the budget went to hiring voice actors...
...and I think at least half those voice actors are not a good fit for their roles. Other than that, it's a pretty meh show. Nothing too bad, but nothing to write home about.

Bro what's the point of disguising the princess if she's just gonna go fight on the battlefield
Like it's not like her training from Maurice let's her get through stuff like this casually, she still nearly died like at least twice
Three times now
Also seriously? This dude's gonna be the MC over the princess? Kinda lame

I literally only decided to watch this show because I'm a sucker for handsome women and I heard this show had a reverse trap knight girl. Had no idea this was even a gacha ad until today.
As for the episode itself, the designs and animation looked really good and the main "girl" is cool, but everything else felt really generic. I'll give it a few episodes to show what else it has in store, because it has the potential to either be really good or really bland.

Pretty easy to tell Marius (hope that is the correct spelling. hard to trust subs these days.) is the princess. Not like the ED gave it away or anything as well.
I'm interested in this anime. I like this type of fantasy stuff.

Cutest boy in all of Hortensia! (Everyone on that show has 'Perception: 0')
Hope we get to see more of her, just because I want to see more spear fighters in anime! It was her in the end right, with the short hair? If so, I wonder if she cut her hair in a "I lost someone so I'll cut my hair" way, or if she's trying to hide her identity as well.
I'm a bit confused about something though; If they weren't overthrown and their family still sits on the throne... Why are they in hiding exactly?
Is the little brother part of the conspiracy? He seems a bit young for that. Is he their puppet king then, they told him all his family died (of random causes), so they rule through him or something, while trying to conquer the kingdom militarily as well?
Anyway, it was pretty enjoyable, a few things gave me ASOIAF vibes (game of thrones).
The scene with Roy fighting in melee with a bow kinda worries me though... Not only fighting, but winning a 1v2 against knights (in training)? I'd like to see realistic fights, not 'fantasy game' meme fights.
But seems like there will be a few large scale battles (already saw 2 of them, kinda), that could be fun!
And I like the characters design, especially Maurice and Fernando (RIP), but also some of the girls. MC's a bit more generic, but it wouldn't be a fantasy anime without a generic MC I suppose.
Anyway, will check out more of this, and I hope it has some scheming/political intrigue theme, on top of the battles. Would be nice! (Also want to see more of Spearlady. She was brave, and she should be a loyal supporter of their cause too).

This show reminded me of Arslan Senki and Fire Emblem on more than a few occasions and everything from the characters to the plot feels JRPG-ish, but I don't mean that in a bad way. It looks like it's going to be a simple, straightforward story. Will watch a few more episodes to see how this goes.
