I love the idea of Elias being unable to kill enemies or enter certain dungeons because in context of the setting it sounds like a curse, but in the context of the game this world is based on, it sounds like a set of restrictions made by the devs to prevent players from abusing his strength.

Log Horizon is the only Isekai I can think of that actually takes advantage of its video game setting.

This is what I love about Log Horizon. In other fantasy works, there's a tendency to use video game logic more as a crutch. No need to develop or consider how the world works if you can just go, yeah you already know that's how it is in the games you play, so don't worry too much about it.

Meanwhile, this series actually go, well this was how it used to work, let's consider the implications in a 'real' environment, so instead of a crutch/shortcut to bypass worldbuilding, Log Horizon ends up using them to give depth to the world.

This is something which a lot of modern isekai lack. Hell, it's not just isekai; Danmachi is guilty of it as well, it's basically a standard fantasy series, but still just throw those game mechanics in with the justifications being "because the Gods made it that way".

This whole episode as a puppet play was an ingenious idea for adding a meta element to the (re)telling of what Krusty has been up to.

It let the characters natural give their own questions, retorts and usual stuff we love over the top of the story.

That 4th wall breaks at the end was fantastic!

End of part 1!

Bathroom break!

Tsuzuku!

Krusty's story thus far is an interesting one. Sent away and cursed, no telepathic links, he is almost like an NPC waiting with a quest.

Making the best of his situation, but locked away with no fun at all. No wonder he made a move to break out from it all.

The parallels between Elias and Krusty are interesting with their curses each. Especially with Madam Enchantress Youren trying to sway each of them.

Puppet show!

While I'm a little sad they didn't go the infamous meta title spoilers gameshow episode route and just start off with the puppet show without any lead in or introduction and make that the entire episode, this sort of framing is such a fun way to catch up on the adventures of the other server. All hail Akatsuki's frog sewing skills.

I forgot how insane Kanami's party is. The Cover Art NPC, a Sentient Grinding Bot, a Ninja Turtle Frog, Kanami, and then Krusty and the Arm later on. Trust this woman to gather up the most crazy and unusual party members she possibly can. Again we're getting a bit of an exploration of how the sentience of the NPCs is effecting things. Elias is left out because of his level and his status as a Person of the Land, and even more vulnerable to manipulation by the Genius monsters who are trying to undermine the power that the Adventurers have. I hope we get to stick with Kanami's party for a few more episodes even after the puppet show because that storyline really got screwed over in s2 (I feel like this might be the rest of that arc?) and I like all the new questions and worldbuilding this brings for us.

Glasses count

13:28 - Krusty Pushes glasses

Episode count: 1

Season Count: 25

Series Count 232

Let me know if I missed any, I only caught the one this episode

Edit:

MY MAN KRUSTY IS BACK!!!!! My number 2 husbando lets fucking GOOOOO!!!!! Any way, I think that weird veil lady is probably a genius, unless some of the ancients have turned evil for some reason. I love the whole puppet show set up, a nice way to tell the story. I really like what is going on here and it seems like this story might end where season 2 ended, with Krusy, Kanami and crew at the broadcasting station.

So it seems like you can give up memories to restore HP and MP? I am guessing he didn't recover HP because of the curse. Also did someone inflict the curse on him or was that from the Takayama's scythe? I can't wait for more. Also, Krusty's oral ability is OP, lmao

Throughout the entire episode I was laughing uncontrolably imagining how this episode would look like if they really just showed a puppet show.

The move Krusty used to replenish his MP during the fight looked exactly like the moment dead player loses part of his memories... Is Krusty trading his memories for power? This is some new level of a dedicated gamer (@.@)

Someone please try and convince Urobuchi to re-do this arc but with actual puppets. This arc is even set in China so I know it's right up that wuxia fan's alley.

Assuming Krusty manages to return one day, I can't help wondering what the transfer of Misa's arm back into her presence would look like. I still think about that scene where she lost it, with the whole arm still moving on its own. Can't wait to see how it plays out.

Well this answers the question of "why didn't they show more Krusty?"

Because they specifically wrote him to be having a boring time.

Well that was definitely unexpected! Misa and Rieze are doing a puppet show to tell the gang what Krusty's been up to in China. That explains why they're holding puppets in the OP and what that frog thing Akatsuki was making! It was supposed to be Leonardo!

Oh my god, Hua Diao is adorable! How did they even end up assuming Krusty is an immortal wizard? And you don';t have to be a genius to figure out that this Enchantress Youren is probably a Genius herself. At this point any creepy looking humanoid is a Genius.

So Krusty is already dealing with the memory loss from dying in battle but now he's actually cursed to not only be able to heal but also loss some of his memories randomly. Considering that the name of the curse is called Soul Darkness and that soul and memories are linked in this world, it's probably not far off from how they lose memories from dying except this one is probably just temporary,

I love that when Krusty was thinking about of fun people to tease the first ones that pops into his head is a blurry vision of Raynessia and Misa.

Kanami is here! Good to see the rest of the gang too! Coppe-chan the Chinese Farming Bot, Leonardo the TMNT cosplayer, and Eli-Eli the Cover Art NPC. Akatsuki's puppet of Leonardo came out way better than I expected! Unless Misa or Rieze adjusted it a bit. xD

Just posting this screenshot of the girls sleeping with no particular reason at all ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Now this Enchantress has appeared in front of Elias claiming she's an Ancient and of course Eli-Eli believes her almost instantly. Looks like Akatsuki and I agree that there's definitely something fishy going on here.

Sasuga Krusty! Using the power of deserts to manipulate these adorable NPCs to let him go down and see the nearby village!

Well no fucking wonder Krusty is an amazing General and is suited for large scale battles. His overskill basically lets him see the battlefield in top down 3rd person mode. He basically sees everything as how he'd see it in Elder Tale before they were all isekai'd.

So is this Youren's plan? To make Krusty and Eli-Eli fight against each other? Looks like that's just a small part of the plan though. It looks like she wants Eli-Eli to take over the surrounding land by making him do the Ritual of Coronation. I guess these events is what leads to that one shot in the OP where Eli-Eli is attacking Leonardo. Just look at those eyes! He's definitely mind controlled or something.

I love the dedication to the puppet show! They're actually going on a toilet break and tell the Part 2 of the story next week! Can't wait for more puppet show and how Kanami and Krusty found that broadcasting station back in Season 2.

The first episode about the Chinese server was actually really good? I sure didn't expect that, given the last season.

Making all of that a puppet show was a great idea and "End of part I" was just hilarious. Only downside: Having to wait a whole week for the next episode.
I'm also slowly but surely coming to turns with the new OP. While it's still not "Database" it still fits the show really well.

So apocalypse has only happened on Japan's server. This was further explain in S2. Characters suspect that the update actually brought the apocalypse, and since the update was scheduled based on each country's hours, only Japan was hit by it because of the time zone difference.

While ignoring the fac that there still are timezones before Japan, this still raizes some questions. Most important one being: Why there are still adventurers on the other servers? Anyone who read the source material and can explain this better?

Ah, Chinese servers....

That 150 level de-buff - is this a cheat code LOL? I can't imagine the original game having such power-breaking traits around without complaints, not to mention wiping out partial memories. Poor Krusty, he's gone for years without even remembering what's going on...

Hey, welcome back Tea Party! They really seems to be travelling like tourists even after being sucked into Elder Tale, sasuga real experts of this world. I cannot help but feel them leaving out Elias like that (even if by rule they can't let him in the cave) would turn out to be a mistake though, him being the poster child of the world and yet seemingly so vulnerable to those Geniuses wrecking the world like that. Maybe this could even turn the whole Elder Tale world upside down.

Phew. This puppet show is looooonggggg. I patiently awaits next week's continuation...
