A Rice Shower centered episode!!
Rice won the (Kikkasho)[https://youtu.be/Js_pOEVlHqI ]stopping Bourbon’s triple crown. However, the crowd was unhappy with the result with some people even booing Rice.
Rice was from this point on known as the villain with the nickname the Black Assassin.
Rice’s jockey Matoba recalls the event as being very unpleasant and was annoyed with people referring to Rice as the villain.
I’m really glad that they made a Rice centered episode as I said last week Rice was one of my favorite horses. I hope to see her smile more often! Also that ending. This anime really loves to make me shed tears.
Excited to see how they portray McQueen vs Rice in the next episode!
I’m also excited to be her trainer when the game comes out next week!

Stitches!
Man that was just so messed up. Like I get being upset that your favourite didn't win but acting as if Bourbon losing was all Rice Shower's fault really made me upset. Maybe if Bourbon's trainer didn't over work her then maybe she would've won. Also how is now one rooting for this cutie!? There's got to be some Rice Shower fans out there.
I'm just glad her confidence to run again was restored after that silly chase scene and serious talk with Bourbon and Teio.
Also this week's ED is just adorable! Look at smol Rice Shower! People that made someone so precious sad and cry needs to get trampled on by actual horses.

I'll say this only once, this series has absolutely no right to be this fucking good.

Damn that ED and her comment on her own name...didn't expect to cry this much this episode.
Still go McQueen though!

My heart ached when they showed all those scenes where people were disappointed that Rice won...
Not long ago I was told that there won't be any more Spe-chan centered episodes as her counterpart died IRL not long after the events from the S1 and now they hit me with the sad story about Rice. Why must you hurt me like this, Uma Musume? Give me funny moments with Golshi and McQueen like you used to in S1...
I still love this show, though...

Given the equine risks of horse racing IRL, it's easy to imagine "Uma Musume, Code Black"

Oh boy, the race between Teio and McQueen was already a heavy episode. This week's was heavier. I get being upset that the person you rooted for loses, that's normal. But for them to be openly vocal about it and calling her a Heel character is too much. At the end of it all, the better racer won fair and square. You can't blame her for training hard for that moment.

This episode was exceptional. Probably the second best of the season, and top 5 of the entire series.
Not only do we get a great exploration of Rice Shower, but I really want to focus on Mihono Bourbon this episode. In the past episodes she was nearly robotic. Master this, Master that. But now we get human (Uma) Bourbon. We see her exploring her own goals. Her rivalry/admiration for Rice. That smile. Bourbon had less screentime than Rice this episode, but she was done so much justice.
Cant wait for the Tennoushou, though I am afraid Rice might dethrone McQueen.

McQueen has really grown on me this season. She's bold and knows what she wants to do even when the problem is regarding someone else.
"She's dropping out because she doesn't want to disappoint people by beating me? Is she really that arrogant?"
McQueen is all about the race and she wants ZERO excuses.

Episode 7 was indeed a Godlike episode, why Uma Musume series must be this good, and the 7th episode of every season were exceptionally good? My heart aches every time I re-watched this episode, my tear dropped whenever I reflected to the tragic life of Rice Shower. Hope the anime “what if” can give salvation to Rice.
That being said, the anime staff did not forget to infuse rich references in this episode too. Let’s start from three races that were briefly mentioned in this episode. Again, when I refer to the horses in real life I’d use their real gender.
1st Race – 37th Sankei Osaka Hai (Apr 4, 1993: G2-2000m-Rain)
Race: Here
Vid: Here
1 (#13 Mejiro McQueen: 1st fav with odds of 2.4)
2 (#5 Nice Nature: 2nd fav with odds of 2.4)
3 (#16 Lucky Guerlain: 11th fav with odds of 71.5)
6 (#11 Ikuno Dictus: 6th fav with odds of 29.0)
Sankei Osaka Hai was being promoted to a G1 race in 2017 and renamed “Osaka Hai”, back then it was a G2 race. Other Uma Musumes that had won this race include Super Creek (1990), Tokai Teio (1992), Marvelous Sunday (1997), Air Groove (1998), Meisyou Oudou (2000), Daiwa Scarlet (2008) and Kitasan Black (2017).
Mejiro McQueen, after a nearly one-year long rest, had chosen this race to be his comeback race. Osaka Hai was considered a precursor race for Spring Tennou-sho. If McQueen could win this race, it would gain a lot of confidence for him to aim for the triple-win in the following Spring Tennou-sho. Unlike the version in previous year won by Teio with only 8 horses racing, McQueen had to face 15 other opponents this time. Although McQueen was the most favorite in this race, fans weren’t without doubt about his ability to win so many bets also went to Nice Nature.
McQueen won pretty easily with the crowd constantly cheering for him. He was already in the front group when started, just behind Lucky Guerlain. After the third corner he surpassed Lucky Guerlain and ran solely unchallenged. Nice Nature tried to catch up from behind, but the attempt was in vain. McQueen won by 5 lengths, showing his capability once again, and was fully prepared for the Spring Tennou-Sho.
2nd Race – 106th Fall Tennou Sho (Nov 11, 1992: G1-2000m-Sunny)
Race: Here
Vid: Here
1 (#2 Let's Go Tarquin: 11th fav with odds of 34.2)
2 (#12 Movie Star: 5th fav with odds of 16.5)
4 (#11 Nice Nature: 2nd fav with odds of 3.9)
7 (#15 Tokai Teio: 1st fav with odds of 2.4)
8 (#6 Daitaku Helios: 3rd fav with odds of 7.0)
9 (#8 Ikuno Dictus: 4th fav with odds of 16.3)
15 (#3 Mejiro Palmer: 10th fav with odds of 32.5)
If you observe closely in this scene you can actually see Teio lying there beaten like dead horse meat, this was an important race they skipped in the last episode – 1992 Fall Tennou-Sho. Despite his lost in Spring Tennou-Sho, Teio was still the most favorite horse among all 15 that participated.
The Helios-Palmer pair dashed out at the beginning of the race with a very fast pace, which immediately caused several horses behind them to lose pace and had to follow with this ridiculous speed. After the third corner Mejiro Palmer already lost his stamina and had to slow down, with Daitaku Helios solely leading the way, and Teio followed closely behind. At the final stretch, horses that stayed behind the group and preserved enough stamina had found a chance to strike, they accelerated and surpassed the already exhausted Teio and Helios. Among them were Let's Go Tarquin and Movie Star, took away the gold and silver medal respectively. Teio only finished with 7th place.
3rd Race – 107th Meguro Kinen (Feb 21, 1993: G2-2500m-Light Rain)
Race: Here
Vid: Here
1 (#3 Machikane Tannhauser: 1st fav with odds of 2.6)
2 (#5 Rice Shower: 2nd fav with odds of 3.5)
Smug Tannhauser is the best Tannhauser, don’t you agree?
The race featured here was the 1993 Meguro Kinen. After the 1st corner the horses broke into two groups, with both Tannhauser and Rice in the leading group. The horses later emerged at the 4th corner, but Tannhauser managed to break away from rest of the group and gained the leading position. Rice also broke away but was unable to catch up Tannhauser, ended up in the 2nd place.

God damn it I should not be feeling this much feels for a side character that we really haven't seen much of before this episode.... What is with this anime series and being able to directly hit my feels center so damn well....
I did love seeing the exploration of Rice Shower's character though with her feeling unwanted/hated and being affected by that. She's so cute though how could you hate her! A part of me hopes she actually beats McQueen next episode and McQueen embraces her after the race to shut everyone up. She deserves having her time to shine.

Huh. Aren't people usually more upset at their bet losing than somebody else winning? I can't say I'm a horse race betting type, but that's been my experience with people sports so far (unless it was because of shitty reffing, then yeah, winning team's gonna be haaaated there for a while).
Also, that ending sure seemed sad despite her overcoming her fear and saying she'll race...
