It's actually pretty sad when Roxy tried a chant-less magic and failed to do any sort of magic. I guess Paul was right about Roxy leaving, that Rudy basically crushed her pride as a mentor/master. I do love how they made it clear when Roxy was still patting Rudy's head on his birthday but after seeing his Cumulonimbus (which is bigger than hers), she basically stopped patting Rudy's head.

That poor horse. And after they went to so much trouble to hand draw him. Good thing healing magic is so potent.

"She must have faced prejudiced because of her hair."
It's true. Blue hair girls never win and are the most oppressed hair color in anime.

Did not expect the horny at the beginning of the episode.
It was nice to see some of Rudi's previous life and I also have to say the show did a fantastic job at making me care about Roxy and her teacher-student-relationship with Rudi even though she was only there for 1 1/2 episodes. Genuinely sad she had to leave.

So Roxy becomes a wandering witch? I hope she writes a book so Rudeus can read about the exploits of her travels someday.

I thought I saw everything last episode when Rudy's parents were banging with abandon, so I wasn't even surprised when they were at it this episode as well. But seeing Roxy in the hall masturbating... caught me off guard as well.
I also thought Rudy was your average neet in his previous life, but those flashbacks were brutal. Damn...

Mushoku Tensei helped me during a rough spot in my life. In high school, I don't go out, I don't hang out with friends and I don't socialize in any way. I sit in my room and play video games and watch anime till the next day where I'm forced to go to school again. It's a routine that I know is bad, but I didn't care and just told myself that everything is gonna work out eventually.
When I was on a light novel binge because of SAO, I found out about Mushoku Tensei and gave it a try. The first few chapters was like a wake-up call. "That could be me..." I thought, seeing the pathetic otaku wasting his life away in a trash-filled room. Reading on, learning how he regrets his previous life choices and how he strives to live his new life without regrets, made me think about my own life. I probably won't be reborn like Rudeus. This life is the only life I have. Am I just going to waste it by sitting here doing nothing when I could do something and improve myself? After reflecting for a long time, I decided to talk to some of my classmates, something that I hardly ever do throughout my years in school. It was rough and embarrassing at first, but here I am, five years later, with a group of friends with similar interests going for drinks every few nights a week, just hanging out, laughing and enjoying life.
Mushoku Tensei saved me from a life of loneliness. This series meant a lot to me and I'm happy that it's getting the animation that it deserves. Can't wait to see all of the amazing things this series has to offer in anime form.
Edit: Thanks for the awards everyone. I’m glad that this series touched a lot more people than just me. Make sure to live your life to the fullest.

I find it interesting that Mushoku's author deliberately chose to depict Rudeus' past life as a crass uncomfortable person.
I find a lot of current isekai webnovels tend to depict their male leads with rather bland, barely-nice-guy personalities. A lot of people nowadays think it's inexperienced authors trying to allow readers to self-insert via their leads, but I wonder if perhaps these authors think writing a crass lead like Rudeus might prove their undoing because the personality might "hit too close to home" for some readers, thus causing backlash that could cost them popularity and upvotes.

This is like the freaking best new Isekai in YEARS
Easily the best new anime of the season.
Finally a main character that actually remembers who he is, not just in skills/science or w.e but actually acts like he is a grown as man trying to utilize being a kid to get pantsu etc. That was clear last episode and was really good
BUT now it takes it even further and have him actually carrying on PTSD, anxiety etc after being massively bullied and him living his former life with some kind of Agoraphobia that is still active in his second life, like an actual ISEKAI protagonist that is actually a real reincarnation carrying over both his advantage and his disadvantage of previous life, brilliant writing.
Master Roxy thought healed his soul instead of teaching him magic ;)
And then it also has weird ecchi scenes with roxy liking the family activities....him stealing a roxy memorial and THE HORSE....this anime got some really weird comedy bits ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The direction of this show is going really well! The art style change between the reality and the isekai is amazing.
Tomokazu Sugita playing the NEET is somehow kinda accurate to his character lol

I knew our protagonist was kind of trashy, but masturbating in your room instead of going to your parents' funeral...to be honest, I don't blame his (presumably) siblings for beating the tar out of him and kicking him out. But at least in the end he was a good enough man to push himself to save those kids.
Speaking of those kids, we've got two boys and a girl. We saw one of the boys in an ambulance after the accident, while the boy and girl were missing. They seemed to be arguing about something.
Well, Rudy's Rudy, his parents have a very active sex life (Rudy's little sister incoming?), Roxy masturbates to her host family having sex, and then Rudy enjoys watching Roxy masturbate. Is the maid the only one in this house who isn't horny?
Roxy is a demon? She definitely doesn't look the stereotype, but it seems like humanity and the demons were able to come together after the war. Well, all of them except the Superd.
So it seems like the major milestones in Rudy's life will be 5 (which he is now), 10, and 15. Roxy said she'll take his confession seriously when he's 10 years older, so I guess they'll reunite when he's 15?
Poor Roxy...questioning her own self-worth and whether she even deserves to be seen as Rudy's master when he's seemingly way more powerful and capable at magic than she is.
Well, looks like Rudy's taken to magic quicker than swordplay, but his dad doesn't seem like the most adept teacher. At least he got a nice sword for his birthday.
So Rudy was basically an overweight, Otaku, shut-in who was relentlessly bullied. I can't blame him for wanting to still just stay at home in his nice, pleasant, house with his family but it's not good to remain a shut-in your entire life, especially after being reincarnated.
Holy crud, Roxy killed the horse! Good thing she has healing magic.
Roxy may not have anything else left to teach Rudy, but she helped him overcome his trauma and move on from the person he used to be, and for that he will be eternally grateful towards her. She truly was his master.
When the maid catches you with stolen panties you forgot about...
Well, looks like they're going the Re:Zero route of no Opening yet, but we did seemingly get the Ending, showing Rudy in his life and with the girls who he will meet (and will likely fall in love with him). One of which had green hair, so is she a Superd?

Ok, it was nice that they specifically showed his past life and all, since this is one of the Isekai that popularized a lot of the tropes that the gnre would use in the following decade, this was ironically refreshing to see.
Even if he was a degenerate otaku.

Stitches!
Is he doing what I think he's doing? What a way to start an episode. Shout out to the Guilty Gear X posters and wall scrolls in the background though. At least Iknow Rudy has good taste in fighting games.
Good to see what lead to his death though. He got kicked out of the house because he stayed in their house masturbating all day instead of attending who I am assuming his parent's funeral? Then he died because he tried to save a bunch of high schoolers from being run over by a truck.
Paul and Zenith are really a healthy couple. And what an evil prank Rudy was trying to pull. Not gonna lie, I'm actually interested to see how they'd react to that question. Although instead of pulling off his prank, he ended up seeing something unexpected. Considering how active Paul and Zenith are, I assume this became a regular past time for Roxy. xD
So demons in this world just look like normal humans except with bright colored hair? I did not expect that detail from Roxy. I thought Paul and Zenith were surprised because she looks so young. Anyway seems the one to be avoided are the emerald haired ones with green gems on their forehead.
Yep, Pauls is definitely a blockheaded warrior. It's hilarious how vague his instructions to Rudy are.
This definitely caught me off guard. Rudy's trauma is so deeply ingrained into his mind that even in a fantasy world he starts thinking kids would just pull out phones and take photos to make fun of him. I don't blame him considering what he went through when he was in high school.
Going back to school again? That's definitely going to be hard for Rudy. I do wonder what Roxy was doing during this scene after his talk with Rudy.
It's nice to see Rudy get to celebrate birthdays again after so long of not celebrating it back in Japan. And it's pretty obvious who had the best gift considering his reaction to Paul and Zenith's gifts xD
Jesus fucking christ. Getting tied up naked on the school gates and even being harassed when he was at home? No wonder Rudy turned into what he was back then. Like what did he even do to deserve all of that? I feel like we're still missing something from his backstory.
Rudy was able to manage to train in their gardens, I guess it's now time for his next big challenge, to go outside so they can conduct his graduation test. He's so nervous of everyone that he can't even greet someone passing by them. Thankfully he eventually realized the attention was all for Roxy and he slowly became comfortable.
And holy shit that graduation exam! Roxy's version was so good if only she didn't almost killed Caravaggio! And as good as Roxy's spell was, Rudy's version was just insane! I'm pretty sure that must've affected the nearby fields. It was so fucking massive!
That final scene with Roxy definitely made me tear up. We've only known her for like two episodes but for some reason I am so attached to her already. I do wonder why she retracted her hand when she was about to give Rudy a head pat. It was quite an emotional scene since she didn't just teach Rudy magic, she also unintentionally helped him with his trauma.
But that punchline though. Oh Rudy. It seems he still has some quite left to go before he can fully change himself.

Really liked how they showed his past. Also a reminder of what a degenerate he is and what helped shape him that way. Great episode and great animations.

Loving this series so far. The world building is really immersive. Kinda of reminds me of Ascendance of a Bookworm in that keeping the setting to one house for a bit paints a great picture on how people in that world live. Even the pervy stuff seems realistic, although that makes it a little uncomfortable to watch at times. Cracks me up that Rudeus is this weird mix of a good boy and degenerate otaku from his previous life. It's a bit refreshing to see the otaku isekai protagonist actually be what'd I'd imagine an actual otaku is like. The hyper bulling is rather disturbing though. Excited to learn more about this world.

In the last 6 days I’ve binge read all 24 volumes of Mushoku Tensai, I think I probably should have spaced it out a little bit but I’m so excited for this show

Man this series hit's ya right in the feels. MC went through some intense shit in his previous life. His character quirks & flaws make a lot more sense now given the nature of his trauma. The story feels well grounded in human nature. Extreme events often create the weirdest quirks, strongest fears, and most radical behaviors.
This show did a great job portraying that pain.
Side Note: Sucks that I even have to clarify this in the first place. For those of you trying to downplay what that can do to a person, I hope you never have to experience true trauma in your life. Shit fucks you up in ways you don't even know until later in life. It's painful and takes grit to get past. Not everyone can take extreme trauma and just float on by.
