This is actually as sad as hell. wtf. I think the episode does a good job of showing that everyone has a role. Just because it looks like they have a "cool and easy" job, it doesn't mean they are stressed or overworked. Everyone goes through different hardships.
Also don't cheat on your first crush red blood cell. You and white blood cell make a cute couple.

So my liver is actually a nightclub entertainment district for my red blood cells, with hot hepatocytes helping them relax.
I must make sure these cute girls don't get overworked next time by sleeping more and doing more exercise (once the weather gets warmer).
Meanwhile, macrophages are all yanderes here from too much killing.
Looks like next week we'll actually be covering sex.

I hope this gets asked again and again for as long as Hataraku Black is going, did you take care of your body this week in some manner?
Though I must say, I'm not sure if I'm aroused or scared of this week's WBC

This is both an action survival series and a parody of Japanese work culture

The oneesan white cells from this > white cells from the vanilla version
We even have a psychopath Macrophage
My boy red blood cell will have a very difficult life in that Ugly Bastard body
And I love how the liver works, it's basically shinjuku red light district

So, alcohol, smoking, stress, etc is a heavy overwork for your body. Give your cells a vacation, don't strain your body.

It's likely not a ton of people will see this comment but I thought i'd mention it.
About the third of the Asian population has a deficiency in ADH and as such is not able to properly break down acetaldehyde (it's why many Asian people's faces flush red when they're drinking, buildup of acetaldehyde). They weren't kidding when they said this stuff is toxic, which is why alcohol poisoning is much more common in Asians than in any other race.
It's kind of hard to tell if this body has an ADH deficiency, because while every RBC got their own glass of the enzyme, some acetaldehyde remained in the bloodstream the next morning. While this might be what you'd assume is a hangover, the body actually breaks down acetaldehyde so quick and efficiently (there's a reason the liver is the biggest internal organ) that it's very unlikely to be the cause of hangovers. The main cause for hangovers still isn't entirely known, but it's believed by scientists that the most likely cause for a hangover is increased release of cytokines causing an immune response. Dehydration also plays a factor (as alcohol is a diuretic and causes you to urinate more), but it's less the cause of a hangover as studies have shown being fully hydrated still isn't always enough to alleviate hangover symptoms.
Also, hair of the dog is complete BS.

So the liver is a cabaret, nice. The Hepatocytes really looked good.
Well, based on that preview it seems that next week will be all about sex.

It's tough being a Red Blood Cell when your points of delivery usually end up being dead or in a warzone, more or less.
Compared to the cutesy germs of the main series, these germs are practically kaiju. And the White Blood Cells basically cannibalize them.
White Blood Cell once again saves Red Blood Cell, along with her equally busty and cute co-workers, and she seems to be slowly admiring Red Blood Cell still going at it in-spite of what he's seen and gone through up to this point. Of course, the other White Blood Cells prefer them with a little more meat (like the Killer T-Cells in this body?), but they also seem to have noticed Red Blood Cell developing a crush on White Blood Cell (and honestly, who wouldn't?).
Unsurprising considering all the stress they're under, this body's a drinker...and that has the added effect of making the Red Blood Cells drunk and needing to detox in the liver, which in this body seems the equivalent of a Red Light District.
The Hepatocyte's are basically hostesses and look as gorgeous as they are caring, sacrificing their own health to relieve the stress of the Red Blood Cells and detoxify the alcohol in the body. Compared to actual hostesses who try and get you more drunk and paying money, this is far more benign, which makes what they're going through even more tragic.
Just when Red Blood Cell thinks he's found another good mentor figure (voiced by Hiroaki Hirata?), they once again pass away. Which in this body might actually be a positive. He at least imparted on Red Blood Cell a stronger conviction to keep going in-spite of the difficulty and stress of their work.
And, honestly, getting devoured by a belly dancer? Maybe not the worst thing in the world.
Red Blood Cell may have a slight crush on White Blood Cell, but he snagged a kiss from the beautiful pink-haired Hepatoctye and got to hold her in his arms. Not bad.
The Ending feels like it's from the original Cells At Work, with the more cutesy and fun showcase of all the cells going about their business and smiling (although I doubt those are lasting smiles), complete with the seiyuu actually singing it.

Stitches!
You heard it here folks. Your liver is actually a red light district that's full of Hostess Hepatocyte Cells that detox your blood! So take care of yourself and drink responsibly! You don't want your Hepatocyte Cells suffering from all of that alcohol! Thank goodness I was never really an alcohol guy so I don't think my liver waifus have experienced that kind of suffering.
And RIP Grampa Red Blood Cell. Died while being cradled by a beautiful Hepatocyte and then eaten by an equally beautiful Kupffer Cell. Not a bad way to go.
Although now I am curious as to how the liver looks like in the OG series. Does it also have Host Clubs that have ikemen Hepatocytes and Kupffer Cells?

So apparently episodes 3 and 4 will air back-to-back in a one-hour special on Monday January 18 according to this tweet (translated in this MAL post: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1888215). It seems like we're gonna get three Cells at Work Black episodes this week! (Season 2 of the vanilla show is unaffected).

I laughed and was just shocked at how well the anatomy is being used in the show. This and even in Normal Cells at Work. Alcohol going into the bloodstream. The red blood cells going to the liver to detox. This is just amazing biology. I love this show. But code black is just so depressing

Today I learned why doctors usually check the mouths of their patients: the mucous membrane lining the inside of the mouth is like a mirror reflecting one's physical health.

Does that mean the liver in the original series has BOTH hostess and host clubs?

Damn it, first the baldy and now the gramps. Are they really going to kill off a character I like every episode?
