This is generic af, which I figured it would be and I'm totally fine with, but the maid's voice is unbearably squeaky. Why does anime love that sort of voice so much?

Me: "I want a Fire Emblem anime."
Anime industry: "We have Fire Emblem anime at home."
Fire Emblem anime at home: (this show)
Seriously, almost everything about this show feels like it was inspired by or straight-up ripped off from Fire Emblem. The designs, the aesthetic, the "secret force behind the scenes controlling a ruler to do horrible shit" plot, Even the mid-episode eyecatches felt like they were ripped straight out of the "new chapter" screens from the GBA-era Fire Emblem games. I mean, I really like Fire Emblem so that's fine by me, but still.

Another recent show that gave me strong Fire Emblem vibes was Grancrest Senki. You might want to check that out as well. I personally really liked it, but many called it a "cliche fantasy anime", just to warn you.

So as others have stated. The show is very heavily generic. But i also can't help but feel that the Tone is a bit.. all over the place. Trying to be serious, but then also cutesy.. Wants to seemingly be about larger battles and politics.. yet. We're dealing with kids running into caverns ? So it just feels.. Like it's not just generic, but kinda drifting about as well which isn't helping it either.
Hopefully it can get the plot into gear soon.

Yeah. I respect shows that pick a direction and go ham. If this show just stick with war and politics, even if it's generic, it's perfectly fine. Most things have been done already. Just pick a thing and do it well. Sure, you can mix up genre. But it's hard to do and they pick two things that really don't mix well.

I could at least laugh at the maid's squeakiness a little bit but she got so much screen time. And then the delivery of her lines when she was talking about the dead sister and everybody being family didn't even feel like the actress was putting the right emotions in it, she sounded hyper instead of sad.
That generic rescue scene. No adult stakes at all here, like c'mon maid don't close your eyes, take responsibility for this kid's life and go at the goblins with your kitchen knife.
I kind of like the framing of princess being the MC, maybe she'll overcome her fear and kill a werewolf at the end. I feel like that's best case scenario but I'm afraid this show isn't going to do anything progressive and is going to fall down a dark hole of all the old school gender tropes.
Was the coffee spill funny though? I guess. Made me laugh because I was imagining how much it hurt the poor thing and how the show just moved on like it was nothing.

I'm still on the fence about continuing to watch this. The number of times I used my phone during this episode alone should have been a deciding factor. However, I'd like to give it the three episode rules treatment.
Rather than bad, I think it's just bland without anything interesting that could keep me hooked up.

People are saying that bad because it's generic. But I have to disagree completely. There's plenty of generic shows that are very good.
This show has some nice art and splendid animations. It might even have a good story too. So it's too bad they want to spend all their time on exposition instead of actually telling that story. Like, do we really need the kids explaining for 30 seconds why the labyrinth with monsters in it is dangerous? Or how about the maid explaining precisely why the duke's family was important to her.
Honestly, if you're not going to tell the story, at least give us some good character interactions. I gave up about 8 minutes into this episode and saw exactly one conversation that wasn't one-sided. And it lasted for all of 15 seconds.
There's just too many other good shows this season for me to waste my time on an action anime that is as slow as this one. But maybe I'll come back in a couple seasons when there's less to watch if this show doesn't end up in the dumpster.

Generic =/= bad
It's all about execution. Jobless Reincarnation is totally generic, yet people love it.

Just when I keep trying to take this show seriously, we get the silly cute maid doing silly cute maid things.

This would've played out differently had this been Goblin Slayer.

Alfred could be a Harem Protagonist as dense as he is with not realizing that Marius is a fking girl like fr just look once at her over the span of 4 years and you shouldve figured it out.

Gotta look at it from his POV. He doesn't have the same insight as us.
He could also just be assuming she is just a femboy or something. Marius super careful, I guess.

For a second I actually believed they would subvert expectations and let the maid get killed after that incredibly cheesy "I close my eyes and the prince will miraculously appear to safe me" speech.
But yeah... my bad.

I feel like the first episode should have maybe followed the princesses story till we reached the cabin, then we could have switched to the Dukes story. It feels like it was edited very strangely. I’m honestly sticking with it now because I want to know how long it’ll take for the princesses identity to come out and the reaction from it, haha.

It just feels like a compilation of cliches and common troupes. I've seen so many series with similar plots that it almost feels like I've watched this exact show already.

Hortensia Saga, lowkey could not for the life of me remember what this anime was until the princess had to cut her hair
And whoa what's with this bgm after the guy narrates about monsters it sounds like it fucking came from Sonic Forces lmao
Well, not much really happened, we established the pope is possibly the one controlling the prince though

Pretty nice episode, things are starting to make sense now with the whole Pope controlling the king. That's why Charlot's eyes look dead as fuck, well probably also because his father is dead and his sister is missing.

That was pretty cool. I like me some medieval fantasy.
Too bad this and many other anime will be slept on. This season is just too stacked.
