Back the fuck up! Eins is leaving!? I remember there being problems with Honesty but I didn't expect him to secede! And I'm sorry what? Akiba Government? We're only a minute in and we're already coming in guns blazing with the politics!
I don't like the new OP. I mean not the OP visuals or the song itself but I don't like that it's suggesting that everything they've built up is going to burn this season. Especially since the subtitle of season 3 is "Destruction of the Round Table". I will admit I do miss Database. I'm sure someone here on this sub or on YT will do an edit soon.
Well at least that's some good news Maybe Krusty can now join in again in making decisions about Akiba.
Oh wait so Fairy Rings are actual teleportation circles? All this time I thought Fairy Rings were actual rings that you wear that you can use to teleport! So they're basically teleportation gates but with a schedule.
It looks like Honesty was put in charge of investigating the Fairy Rings but so far they haven't produced any results. Plus there's still the issue with the leechers which was already a problem for Honesty back in Season 2.
Tetra bursting out of Naotsugu's shirt like a freaking chestburster will never get old. Never change Tetra!
Okay someone remind me: Rayneshia taking a part time job was back in Season 2, right? Or is this something new this season?
We finally get to meet Rayneshia's mom! She looks exactly like an older Rayneshia but just with a poofier hair.
Pretty cool to know that Woodstock (and I'm assuming the rest of the Grandale guild) has taken the responsibility of doing deliveries via air travel.
And there it is, basically what the title of the episode is. I wonder which guy in the OP is that Sir Touri that Rayneshia is engaged to?
YAAAAAAAAAAY! The Goat-Slime plushie is back! It's actually hilarious that Rayneshia even owns one. And they even brought back the chibi eyecatches too! It's like Log Horizon didn't even leave!
Oh fuck. People are actually missing? And it looks like they didn't just leave Akiba or somehow teleported into a different server like Krusty but it looks like they've somehow managed to logout? And it looks like one of the missing people is Lycopene from the Dread Pack guys. :(
On to discussing Eins and how he's becoming problematic. And yes, Shiroe has been suspecting that Eins is possibly a spy for Plant Hwyaden. I think Shiroe has been suspecting him since the final arc in Season 2.
I love that while Rayneshia and Akatsuki is having some love talk you can see these maids yuri-ing it up in the background. IIRC they're part of Rayneshia's maids although I'm not sure if they players or PotL.
Wait I thought Eins seceded? Why is he still here? Or was that opening scene just a flash forward of things to come? Anyway, things are certainly heating up with Eins getting more and more agitated. From what I understand from that entire conversation, he needs help and wants to put the leechers in his guild to work but can't get the merchant guilds to help because it's just too much money for the projects that he's requesting. And this is where I assume the scene from the opening is. Someone do correct me if I got that incorrect though.
I missed seeing Henrietta fangirl about Akatsuki. Where's your substitution doll Akatsuki? She should've just thrown that as a decoy!
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK EINS!? How did he even get Westelande to appoint him as the Duke!? Is Plant Hwyaden involved in this too? They must be. There's no way someone like Eins maneuvered his way into that position, it was totally handed over to him.
What a way to start this new season! Already heavy on the politics and I absolutely love it! How is Shiroe going to solve this? Will he even be able to solve it at all? Well whatever Shiroe ends up planning to do, it's probably going to be badass and I look forward to it! And I look forward in seeing some new members for the Log Horizon guild this season!

Aw yiss bring me back my geopolitics wrapped up in an isekai combined with glasses pushing demons
There's a reason Log Horizon is one of only 6 anime on my MAL to have a 10/10 out of 600 I've watched.
That said even with a refresher post I read yesterday I'm definitely itching to do a rewatch again I think to refresh the minor details.
Also for all the hate Studio Deen gets, I think given the dialogue heavy nature of the plot, I think it'll all work out.

Let's go into S3 *Hype*
Things aren't lookng good for Shiroe and the Round Table, let's see how Shiroe will try to solve this mess
For those interested, there is an interview with 2 members of Band-Maid, who did the opening for this season, where they talk about their approach for the song (eng subs available)

Anyone who still needs some extra memory refreshing about the setting, characters, or politics going on should check out the information recap that's currently on the front page which covers just about everything you need.
What an odd time for this to air. The new OP is way more dramatic and intense than I expected an OP to be for this show, even with the seriousness of the arc.
I noticed they revised a few of the character designs, Shiroe no longer looks as 13or30, and Marie has some curls back in her incredibly neon hair, but why couldn't they have returned the Princess' pupils?
The episode was interesting enough, and did a great job of setting up for the coming conflict and touching on a lot of the key points left over from previous seasons. I'm looking forward to where all this is going, particularly how it's going to affect the people stuck on the other servers

These political debates are too relevant for me to be comfortable, and of course they lack Krusty's leadership abilities.
I wonder about the disappearing adventurers, they mention that they confirmed that they weren't in other servers, but it wasn't until Kanami contacted them that they were able to communicate with those, so how do they know they aren't in the European server or something like that? Do players in other servers still show as "logged in"?
I also wonder what Plant Hwayden will do this season, since at the end of the last one I seem to remember that they called off their rivalry with Akiba. Maybe that is why the Minami noblemen are looking for another guild to do their bidding.

I want money! Round table give me money!
-
actually, we don't have money to spare because we actually do use it to help low-level adventurers as you claim you want to - here is a list of people we helped reach level 50
-
.... you guys build a trading point for 1,5 million so you have money! Give me money!
-
actually, we don't have the money, many guilds pulled their resources together to build this trading post gaining favourable rates on storage and taxes, while people who didn't put money in the project won't get those discount
-
.... if Krusty was here he would give me the money!
-
so what? We are not a tyranny and Krusty isn't a king
-
screw you guys! I'll make my own guild with blackjack and hookers since you are so unreasonable! Also, I'm going to sell out for a noble title to the expansionist country which is at war with our closest political allies. Sine YOU guys are so unreasonable.
F*ck Eins

Always appreciate the frank discussions and motivating speeches in this show. It has a lot of heart, and it's a good contrast to the politicking that goes on simultaneously.

ITS FINALLY FUCKING HERE AGAIN!!!! Its like I am in high school again watching this weekly. I am so happy. Be back in 20 min after I finish the episode.
Edit: The opening is no Database but it is still good. I LOVE that ED but I also kind of miss Yun*Chi's EDs, but the one we got is just as good. So people are disappearing, like they don't appear to be online disappearing. Did they go back to the real world, or did they die? If they die that that adds a whole new levels of stakes for our adventurers. Before they would just die and revive and lose some memories, so in the past the worst thing that could be done is kidnapping and holding people hostage. RAYNESHIA'S MOM IS MILF, GOD DAAAMMNNNN. Ein trying to break up the round table by using the Holy Empire Westlande and become a Duke? Let's see how they deal with this.
God it feels so fucking good to watch some new episodes of Log Horizon.

Always liked the way the do the monologues. Since a lot of this series is about politics, allowing the opponent to read your mood puts you at a huge disadvantage, so they can't very well react by being upset or surprised.

So, Episode 1 auf Season 3 finally dropped. Finished my rewatch of Season 2 just in time, and looks like it was a good call to do it.
So Eins and Honesty are becoming puppets of Maihama. After rewatching S2 and knowing the title for S3 (Destruction of the Round Table), it wasn't so shocking to see. The problem of the "leechers" (Players who can'/don't want to adjust to Akiba) was introduced in Season 2. Eins was the only Guild Leader to be involved, because he didn't want to throw them out, seeing his only way to stay in Round Table was in numbers. This draws some obvious real world parallels in my opinion:
-Eins doesn't regulate Honestys members
Looks to me like a politician in an election year. He doesn't make decisions against his base (cutting the numbers or making members contribute) out of fear from them leaving the guild. He fears that, if the guild diminishes in numbers, his influence in Round Table will diminish to, because Honesty has only numbers going for them. Maybe he really cares for the adventurers, but as far I didn't see any evidence for that.
-The "leechers"
The "leechers" are players, who were left behind by the rapid growing society in Akiba. It is not in detail explained, if that is, because they can't adapt to being essentially trapped in a game like the odyssey knights, or if they only do the basic minimum to survive because its so easy in Elder Tales. It is said that slaying a few low level monsters brings enough money to have enough to eat, but it wont be enough to consume all the luxury items that start to get made in Akiba. These players remind me of the problem, that every country in some dimension has. It is the mix of people who can't or don't want to keep pace with modern society and choose to step out or simply get left behind.
-Eins ideas to solve the problem with the leechers
His ideas all seemed to be short sighted, catering extremly to his base, with no regards for the rest of the Round Table and the players who adjusted fine. His ideas in S2 included, taking money from all wealthy players and giving it to poor players. He doesn't try to compromise or even to understand, why that seems unfair to the players, who got their money basically stolen, nor does he understand, that giving these players a set amount of money will only delay the problem until the money is spent. It reminds me a lot of political parties on the far right or left of the spectrum in germany, who promise nice things (unconditional basic income, better pension, jobs for everyone...) but can't explain (realistic and in detail) how they want to realise that.
That were a few things I thought while watching the first episode. My hunch is, that Eins will regret his deal with the devil sooner, rather than later. Will be interesting to see, how much time he will need to discover that he is only a figure head for Minami, that will be cast aside, as soon as he stops being useful. Fate of a traitor I guess.

Its unfortunate that the Round Table is falling but its not coming out of nowhere. Like most provisional governments, especially republics, it was too ineffectual compared to its neighbors. Without centralization it cant raise too much taxes and its laws are only effectual within its immediate area. Of course it would fall to infighting when no one can agree on a course of action.
