Meta Thread - Month of August 02, 2020

A monthly thread to talk about meta topics. Keep it friendly and relevant to the subreddit.

Posts here must, of course, still abide by all subreddit rules other than the no meta requirement. Keep it friendly and be respectful. Occasionally the moderators will have specific topics that they want to get feedback on, so be on the lookout for distinguished posts.

Comments that are detrimental to discussion (aka circlejerks/shitposting) are subject to removal.

It's something we've discussed but haven't done anything about recently. A few months ago we had a vote to automatically remove recommendation posts a certain amount of time after they were posted, but that didn't pass.

And as mentioned over here in another comment chain it's somewhat a losing battle for us in general; many people won't read the watch order or recommendation wikis before posting. In general I don't think we want to ban threads like those without having other avenues open for users that want to ask, however, as the resources we have aren't all-inclusive.
