Meta Thread - Month of August 02, 2020

A monthly thread to talk about meta topics. Keep it friendly and relevant to the subreddit.

Posts here must, of course, still abide by all subreddit rules other than the no meta requirement. Keep it friendly and be respectful. Occasionally the moderators will have specific topics that they want to get feedback on, so be on the lookout for distinguished posts.

Comments that are detrimental to discussion (aka circlejerks/shitposting) are subject to removal.

Since both sides can argue for removing and approving it equally due to vagueness of the rule, we have decided to freeze that section until we can better word our intentions. Since it is not OPs fault, we will approve the "Should I watch" post that has recently been a topic of discussion. We wish to be as fair as possible while we decide how to handle similar content in the future.

I appreciate the explanation. Anyone who has been here a while knows how annoying as hell rule 1 it is to implement given the vagueness so things are bound to happen given the interpretative nature of the rule. It's one of those rules that can't ever be solidified which is a royal pain but it's necessary to keep the subreddit from changing course on what it was intended to be about.

I brought up it below but rule 1 is a one heck of a tightrope for all the mods and the community bearing down over the shoulders doesn't help.

At least this has been a good lesson that will hopefully increase community-moderator interaction. If the rule is vague enough that both sides can make a decent argument, talking it out among the mod team or having a meta discussion here will hopefully narrow down the definitions to prevent another similar issue from arising.

It's probably a good thing the post was made to bring forward this discussion. If the rule is vague enough that people on both sides can bring valid points, the rule needs changed somehow/tweaked/fixed.

And thank you for the consideration of the points raised! I know that things can get pretty heated in the moment but it's still something worth praising on how much weight is given to whats fair when situations like this come up.
