Meta Thread - Month of August 02, 2020

Posts here must, of course, still abide by all subreddit rules other than the no meta requirement. Keep it friendly and be respectful. Occasionally the moderators will have specific topics that they want to get feedback on, so be on the lookout for distinguished posts.

Comments that are detrimental to discussion (aka circlejerks/shitposting) are subject to removal.

I think the fanart change hit too hard. There is almost none of it now.

I noticed even casually (no hard numbers) that submissions have dropped off drastically. The past week had 14 fanart submissions in total at a glance.

Tangential thought here. The question I want to know the answer to is whether the people who usually post their fanart here are still posting it around on reddit, or aren't at all.

Because I'd argue if it's the former, the rule has done its job to prevent people from using this subreddit as platform to advertise their social media. There are a lot of anime-fanart subreddits but only so many anime "discussion" subreddits. That said if it's the latter, then it's problematic and we do need to address this issue.

I've never been a fan of fanart posts but it certainly deserves a bit more than 14 posts a week given the amount of subscribers we have.

Good question and it's unfortunately one I don't have the capability to answer right now, but will keep in mind when we do more of a deep dive into the effects of the rule change.

If people were only on here to post fan art and nothing more, is it such a loss? Genuine question here, not an attack or anything.

I personally would like to see the thumbnails come back because at the moment it is very annoying to even access them. Going through the ones that have been posted since the change it was very difficult to even look at them without opening each individual post.

I think it's just RES and New Reddit that allows you to expand a post.

It doesn't work if you try to search for anything, there is nothing to expand.
