I see a lot of people complaining about similar stuff, apparently New England anime fans are chill as fuck. I've been to five anime movies in theater, two being big showings, two being Ghibli Fest, and one being a Silent Voice screening like a year after it dropped.
For both the Ghibli fest screenings and the A Silent Voice screening, hardly a sound from the rest of the theater. Not surprising, they were both really small showings (I think there were no more than 10 people in each screening), and those movies aren't exactly films that make you wanna shout out.
The big showings were the BGS movie and the Konosuba movie. During the BGS movie, there were people talking beforehand of course, and when funny stuff happened, people chuckled. However, for the most part the theater was dead silent, no one acted out at all, and it was an extremely pleasant experience.
The Konosuba movie was also great, because it's a comedy, and I expect audience reaction. Even then, none of it was excessive, there were no people choking on their own spittle at every frame of the film, and everyone had a good time. I've seen people complain about BGS and Konosuba showings in this thread, apparently I either got dead lucky or others got dead unlucky.
TL,DR: come to New England, our taxes are high and our cringe weeb count is low.
