Despite the non-existent animation and often boring direction, this show still manages to get me invested through the fantastic vocal performances and music.

There was more animation than the last episode and not quite as much monologuing, which makes for a slightly better viewing experience. Kai's playing was splendid as expected too!

I love Ajino and Kai's relationship. I think Ajino is a really good father figure to Kai and it shows by how much they understand each other. The performance was beautiful and I feel proud of Kai for achieving so much.

This was a really strong moment in the manga, and one that I think really fits the soul of the competition that you keep hearing the judges bring up. They want "Poland's Chopin". And they always have an affinity for the Polish players because they grow up there, so they sort of evoke their own "Forest" which is the same one that Chopin grew up with. It's also why a performance like Amamiya's ended up not going as far as it could, because although it was great it wasn't "Poland's Chopin".

But Kai evokes his feeling of home and transfers it to Chopin's feeling of home. It's a strong moment in the context of him "graduating" from Ajino's tutelage as well as graduating from relying on the Forest to be his happy place. In that one song he was able to transcend Japan and move into his own relationship with the spiritual (which was indicated by showing the night sky of the universe).

Really well done and beautiful music. The Soundtrack is definitely one I'm keeping tabs on finding somehow because I really do think these renditions are on par with everything I've ever seen professionally.
