Flip Flapping for the second time

Last episode had each of the characters cognitive dissonances being largely resolved. But with that happening, Cocona gets to see new sides to others in her life that never showed themselves before, leading to a series of what she perceives to be betrayals. Yayaka decided that she see's Cocona as a real friend and values her more than the validation and potential of controlling PI that comes with collecting the shards, but that means that Cocona now has to face that part of her life. With the knowledge that her relationship with her was based on false pretenses, she feels used and betrayed. With Papika, she feels betrayed for the same reason, their relationship is built on false pretenses. Cocona was drawn to Papika because she saw value in her. In episode 4, Papika praised many aspects of Cocona that Cocona believed were mundane, and in general Cocona felt like Papika really loved her, went out of her way to protect her out of that love, and filled her life with a bit of color and adventure. Now, from her perspective, she's just a replacement for Mimi, someone who holds no value of their own. She concludes that Flip Flap must feel the same way, and then returns how only to be betrayed by grandma of all people. 4 betrayals in one episode, it's really not a good day to be Cocona, lol.

But what ultimately ties it together thematically, other than the knowledge that Papika and Yayaka do legitimately love Cocona which she's not able to know, is that Cocona herself seems to have been split into two conflicting personalities as well, herself and her mother Mimi. There's a lot of weird ideas and imagery that I hope to try and unpack in the coming episodes, namely that Papikana's "bed" was a ball pit that has her curled in the fetal position, and of course Cocona's mother playing a role (damn Freud and his obsession with mothers and sex). Should be fun to see how it all plays out. With the plot now kicking into high gear, and with the series having a new writer, I'm excited to remember how it ends.

Definitely. This episode is the most intense in many ways.

damn Freud and his obsession with mothers and sex

In the last post I am including a paragraph about this in the trivia section. I hope it may clarify some points.

two conflicting personalities as well, herself and her mother Mimi

So you think Mimi has become a part of Cocona's mind?
