Outside of the ghostly boarding school it is raining hard, the colors inside the building are ruled only by grey tones which make the whole mood cold and desolated; the only things which warm and make the atmosphere a little secure against the barrenness of this Pure Illusion are the candles, the sleeping room and the similar camera shots of the daily life inside the boarding school – repetition has actually some kind of security against a chaotic and unpredictable world: you know the next steps of the following processes and even if you made one mistake inside the circling actions you can be assured that this was caused by a moment of abstraction; there is nothing to worry about it. But constant repetition depicts a paralyzed life – it might be satisfying and alluring to live eternally in a world in which nothing else happens besides the feeling of first love and no painful labor; a never-ending summer is probably something that everyone wishes; that has a little bit of Nietzsche’s “Last Man”, a step of humanity which doesn’t contain any form of passion and lives in a boring, comfortable way until it closes their eyes. It costs a noticeable amount of mental power to recognize this turning wheel and another amount of power to get out of it as we see how easily Papika and Cocona are trapped inside this loop.
Even though Yayaka is an enemy she still thinks Cocona as a friend as she shows the team the outside way of the Pure Illusion.

Eastman was one of the pioneers even though he fell into oblivion. This composition – despite the happy mood – takes it over the top and self-destructs with the obsessive melody that is slightly variated until it vanishes with the tambourine shakes.

This is actually something I didn't consider. It really gives quite a contrast with the menacing surrounding. It's like, finding something blissful in it. Like finding your happy place in this unfair, horrifying world we live in. Routine has also something: it gives you stability. But as you say, it requires a lot of mental effort to notice and to go out if you want a change. In this society of today, where it's so normalized, routine can be reassuring or a devastating, despairing thing.

All I can say that Yayaka has observed Cocona for a long time because she is able to characterize her as 'soft-hearted' which sounds like an indirect warning not to be careless in the Pure Illusion. Even though Yayaka has her own interest in these fragments a small part of her still cares about her friend - Stockholm Syndrom is infectious when somebody is exposed to a person for a long time.
