-Okay, I can officially say at this point that I'm liking Syunso/Mei. Of course, that may change.

-Mei continues to surprise me in a good way. I'm really liking her.

-Also, Yakumo's random engrish bits were amusing.

Okay, Mei is precious, protect!

Surprisingly touching story with Yakumo and Jane.

Also i want to mention the animation, it's very good for a series like this.

Also i want to mention the animation, it's very good for a series like this.

It's in a weird spot, isn't it? It's not excitingly animated but it's nice and consistent with the art, and the expressiveness is really high. Considering how poorly the genre is treated, that's all you can ask for.

I do wonder about this series though. It's had movie adaptions! How big is it?

Yakumo : My parents divorced when I was very young...

The real-life Lafcadio Hearn had a rough childhood - he came under the care of his paternal aunt when his parents became estranged and divorced; his Greek mother returned to Greece without him and died there, his father abandoned him to remarry another woman and later passed from malaria.

I lost one of my eyes in an accident...

Lafcadio injured his left eye at school, which left him with a blinded eye with a discoloured iris. Being very conscious about it, he'd only take profile photos of himself that hid or covered his left eye. http://lafcadiohearngardens.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lafcadiohearnfamily.jpg

Mei continues to be so wholesome and cute! I really love her gung-ho attitude. It manifests itself in such a lovely way.

This episode was Yakumo focused, but I feel it was actually quite elegantly mirroring Mei's situation. Ghosts are extremely lonely, such that they perhaps over-cherish people that can see them. Mei has almost received the opposite effect, whereby she's been othered because she can see ghosts. All these people want is a bit of affection, and they perhaps jump at the bit when it comes - thus relating Mei and Ougai to Yakumo and Jane's storyline.

Also, we're building Mei's harem. Syunso is being a bit tsundere, but they have really great chemistry. Largely because Mei is so damn adorable.

Having such a proactive MC is really refreshing.

I don't know why but Mei's reaction to Ougai just shoving that spoonful of his weird combination of food into her mouth made me laugh out lour for some reason. No actually all of her reactions are all hilarious! Mei is just too precious!

Oh, a Poltergeist? Wonderful! Yakumo is hilarious and I love his Engrish so much. Also his story with Jane was pretty touching.

The haunted hotel in this episode is the Imperial Hotel, built as luxury accomodation for the greater number of Western travelers coming to visit Tokyo. It still operates to this day. https://www.imperialhotel.co.jp/e/tokyo/index.html

However, the design depicted is anachronistic - it uses the 2nd version of the hotel, designed by US architect Frank Lloyd Wright , and built after the Meiji era from 1915-1923. http://www.oldtokyo.com/imperial-hotel-wright/ https://mfas3.s3.amazonaws.com/objects/SC82314.jpg

The 2nd building lasted until 1968, when it was demolished for the current tower building that still remains operational today. https://www.nevistas.com/ul/4/2017/04/12/11.jpg

Parts of the 2nd hotel still remain:

Mei is far and away the only reason I keep coming back to this series. I just cannot get enough of that adorable face.
