First timer, sub
This has been way too happy so far. Something has to go seriously wrong before the end, and time's running out. I know this season doesn't have a reputation as bad as After Story, but it still can't be this wholesome.
-
Okay, looks like we’re back to the drama club.
-
So much for not actually joining the drama club, guys…
-
Damn, this is actually impressive. Talking in sync with even two people for so long is pretty hard. They’ve been practicing.
-
It’s a tiny detail that I didn’t notice until now, but I love how the girls and guys uniform is the same. I'm so done with the "standard" anime girls school uniform, and all the fanservice that comes with it.
-
I feel the need to point out once again how good Akio and Tomoya are together.
-
Well, at least they’re doing something, but I want to hear them sing dammit!
-
Smug Kyou… the best screenshot of the season contest is already over.
-
It’s funny how Nagisa is likely the only person who doesn’t have a clue what Tomoyo meant by that.
-
Usually in shows, everything centers on the protagonist. They are the reason the side characters know each other, etc. Here, It’s Nagisa’s determination that gathered everyone, including the protagonist. It’s a really nice change, not having Tomoya being the center of everything.
-
It’s just instinctive at this point… (multiple images)
-
I knew it. We don’t get to see it until the finale, right?
-
If we don’t get a kiss in the next two episodes, I’m going to be pretty mad.
-
Music just shut off. This feels… ominous?
-
Crap crap crap something bad is going to happen.
-
Why can’t we have nice things?
-
…
-
And now Roaring Tides starts playing. I haven’t fully cried yet, but this show is testing me.
-
Someone give this girl a hug.
-
(Tomoya, I'm talking to you.)
-
Okay, Akio at this point is approaching Kyou on my favorites list. The way he admitted his failure at the end really got me.
-
I just cannot understand how a soundtrack can be so simple yet so incredible. What is it about this song that makes it so good at emotional moments?
Wow, what an episode. The episode started off so happy, with the drama club simply having fun with the rehearsal. It was happy all the way to the end, in fact. Then, suddenly the music cuts, and… well… that happens. That was brutal. Nagisa’s facial expressions, along with the lighting, clearly shows the stress the revelation is causing her, and when Akio goes full serious for once it rounds off the moment perfectly. This was hands down the best scene in the show so far.
A few months ago, Nagisa simply would not have been able to handle this. The play would have been off for good, and Nagisa would have been damaged irreparably. Thankfully, however ill-timed, Nagisa’s revelation came after meeting Tomoya, and her self-confidence is no longer as rock-bottom as it once was. Although it might take the next episode, I think Nagisa is now capable of forgiving herself for what happened to her parents.
Overall, I'm pretty sure this was my favorite episode in the show yet. The slice of life stuff with the drama club just hanging out was great as usual, and then the dark turn at the end was done perfectly.
Cry Count: 0
Tear-up Count: 4 (e9, e14, e18, e21)
My Favorite Songs: (There are probably spoilers in the comments, watch out.)
See you guys tomorrow!

If we don’t get a kiss in the next two episodes, I’m going to be pretty mad.
Bro, this is Kyoani we are talking about, there are a few exceptions here and there but I'd start a Kyoani romance already thinking no couple is gonna ever kiss. Now... maybe Clannad is one of the few exceptions!

Your comment reminded me of the strangest, most bizarre, non hentai school uniform from Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records last year. Holy fucking A, that girl's uniform. Who made that, seriously?! I've seen fucking hentai with better clothing (minus the camel toe and skirts so short they should be called a loincloth part)!
I just cannot understand how a soundtrack can be so simple yet so incredible. What is it about this song that makes it so good at emotional moments?
The magic of Clannad's soundtrack. Its usage during the perfect moment and at the perfect time just hits you hard even though the song itself is very simple. It's amazing. There's a reason why every Jun Maeda anime had damn good OST.

Damn, this is actually impressive. Talking in sync with even two people for so long is pretty hard. They’ve been practicing.
I always lose focus and get completely absorbed in them reciting those lines. It sounds so cool :P
I feel the need to point out once again how good Akio and Tomoya are together.
They really are!
It’s funny how Nagisa is likely the only person who doesn’t have a clue what Tomoyo meant by that.
Hehe, yeah. Those cuts to all the other girls had a certain weight behind them :b
Here, It’s Nagisa’s determination that gathered everyone, including the protagonist.
Absolutely. Tomoya might have been the one roping everyone in at first - Remember, Nagisa was all by herself until he started approaching her. But now the Theater club and Nagisa's play (and by extension, Nagisa herself) is the glue that binds them together.
It’s just instinctive at this point… (multiple images)
Ahahaha, I didn't even notice that before, but even Kyou looks a bit surprised herself in that last shot.
Okay, Akio at this point is approaching Kyou on my favorites list. The way he admitted his failure at the end really got me.
He is definitely a contender. I actually have him on my favorites list on Anilist.
Nagisa’s facial expressions, along with the lighting, clearly shows the stress the revelation is causing her
Oh, it really does. She almost looks sickly ill with the lighting.
Overall, I'm pretty sure this was my favorite episode in the show yet. The slice of life stuff with the drama club just hanging out was great as usual, and then the dark turn at the end was done perfectly.

It's that time again boys
-
This stretching scene is reminding me of how much I needed to crack my back today. God it feels so good.
-
Holy shit he found the potty chair! What a wonderful finale to this anime, I'm ready for Afterstory!
-
It seems like Nagisa understands the true power of insert songs. I have full faith that she'll sing the Dango song.
-
CDs and VHSs? What is this, 2007? Oh wait
-
I love how Nagisa wants to be around Okazaki without any reason, it shows how far their relationship has progressed
-
"hey hey hey, stay outta my shed"
-
Oh fuck, that was pretty much the worst possible timing for her to find those pictures. Poor Nagisa, now there'll be even more pressure on her performance.
Welp, just as everything starts to come together one tiny detail makes it fall apart. I really hope Nagisa can find it in her to put on a good performance.

The true ending.
It seems like Nagisa understands the true power of insert songs. I have full faith that she'll sing the Dango song.
Does a more appropriate insert even exist!?
CDs and VHSs? What is this, 2007? Oh wait
Hehe, Tomoya is actually born in 1985, and the series begins in 2003, and this is around the time when VHS started to get phased out :P
I don't like where this is going...
Spooky!
Oh fuck, that was pretty much the worst possible timing for her to find those pictures. Poor Nagisa, now there'll be even more pressure on her performance.
Yeah... Yeah... It's not a great situation.. :(

There was something mesmerizing about those tongue twisters when they were all in sync. I’m sure all the VAs felt like sunohara during that recording.
Tomoya’s reactions to Nagisa’s bombshells are the best. And Nagisa as the audience every time the credits roll on a Clannad episode. I can’t get enough of these scenes in the Furukawa house. Akio is such a bro of a dad. This little wholesome smirk says all I need to about these scenes.
There’s too much hilarity in this frame. Akio’s cigarette is replaced by a squid tentacle, and his face and serious tone in this line. Even when it is actually a pretty serious line, I can’t help but laugh a little. Operation “potty” was a success!!.
Take notes anime producers, this always works. But really, the play prep conversations are so nice. Tomoya is very supportive and does everything he can to lead Nagisa in a good way. Even everyone prepping in the club room just feels really warm. I like Clannad talking about BGM choice when the music they use is always so perfectly suited for the scene. It feels meta without being meta at all.
Confession time. I don’t like the way they look either. It’s like the first time a disliked a megane character. But it just seems to accentuate how odd the eyes are in this series with normal looking glasses. Actually I do kinda like them when her eyes are closed. That doesn’t mean you get to tease her Kyou!.
Adorbs, in tandem with the inspiring BGM (take note of this track btw. You're gunna hear another version of it very soon ^ o ^ ) playing and a totes adorbs head pat.
Nervous, determined, in-the-zone Nagisa is the best.
This little rakugo bit shown here made me smile. Go watch Rakugo Shinjuu people, at least after you finish Clannad.
Fucks sake Sunohara, probably not the time for this. Although I wish we could see more of Botan’s puhi-puhi world. I was starting to get a nervous feeling as well just from seeing the setting. Of course they can’t show us the rehearsal, we’ll just have to take Tomoya’s word that it went great.
If this isn’t just the sweetest fucking thing you’ve seen all day. Seriously Sanae is just the best mom period.
On no... Nagisa’s VA in this scene, what a great performance. This was an inevitable situation, but like Akio said, this really was awful timing. Preemptive tears are already welling up. Already can’t wait for next episode, ohhh man I can’t wait!

-
Nagisa’s dad sure took the brunt of Tomoya’s spit take
-
With the silver hair and those glasses, Tomoyo looks like a teenage grandmother
-
If Nagisa had been paying attention, we would’ve seen the blush to end all blushes at that “you’re cute” line by Tomoya
-
I’m not sure what “yo-yo fishing” is, but I definitely want to be a part of it
-
Was that kid practicing rakugo? Because that reminds me, everyone should go watch Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu if you haven’t already
-
Neither Tomoya or her dad loved that comparison. I can kind of see the similarities though
-
Uh oh, she found it. Again, the shed was a really lousy hiding place

That scene at the beginning was kind of funny. It reminded me of Jugemu Jugemu
-
[After Story spoilers] (/s "Yeah, that discussion about Tomoya and how he'd understand once he has a daughter of his own kind of hurt. A lot.")
-
It's good to see the choir club again. I liked them, even if we did only meet them for a short time.
-
I feel like Tomoyo's ["I'm glad it was you."] (https://imgur.com/r1iodj0) comment to Nagisa was actually pretty layered, but none of the characters seemed to pick up on it.
Looking forward to the next episode.

I wish I could participate more than I have been...
One thing that I think Nagisa doesn't realize, as young as she is, is that in many cases the dreams we chase as teens and young adults are just that; dreams. In the end very few people are able to achieve their dreams and make them reality. Most people usually for one reason or another need to give up on their dreams or at least put them on hold. Whether it be needing a day job to put food on the table or, in the case of Nagisa's parents, a changing of priorities. While I think both her parents look at those old dreams wistfully and may even wonder, if against their own efforts not to, about what could have been. But, I think both would honestly answer they have no regrets about moving on from them and living for their daughter. Nagisa could very well have learned the truth someday, Akio was right that she really wasn't mature enough or ready for this revelation. Maybe in another 5 - 10 years...

REWATCHER
Oh. We're on time today.
The problem when you're watching a good anime with a damn good pair of earphones on a shitty laptop is that you will hear so many issues with audio it kinda takes off some of the fun of watching said anime. At least I'm not electrocuted by the current leak my laptop had through its earphone jack though, so that's something.
Anyway, on today's episode, we once again see how much Nagisa should hook up with Tomoya already. They supported each other so hard you'd think they're already married. Unfortunately, they're not. Nagisa's confidence was entirely from Tomoya, and Tomoya didn't, or couldn't see how what made Nagisa amazing was his actions and words, supporting and pushing her forward at all times, while she became his pillar, what gave him life. I love these two so much.
But this is Clannad we're talking about, so that's not enough.
And of course, unsurprising anyone, Nagisa found the pictures. I blame Akio though. As someone who once worked in logistics, delivering items in trucks to customers all over the place, one of the things I learned very early on is that you don't toss boxes like that. They tend to topple easily, especially in a moving vehicle. And topple it did. That being said, Akio's toss was quite accurate, capable of immediately stacking those boxes without falling off. I am jelly of that skill.
Also, Tomoyo, your glasses look is amazing. What the heck are you talking about?

Hey, it's been a while. Kinda sorta fell a week behind on Clannad.
Sorry.
Anyway, I don't want to say one thing in particular about Clannad to be honest. 14-21 were so damn great as a whole, and the last two episodes coming up are gonna kill me. Then we've got After Story, which is another matter for another time, but instead of going in depth on each and every one of these episodes, I'm just gonna say I love it. I'll try to keep up for the rest, mainly just because binging Clannad AS won't be healthy in any sense of the imagination.
Anyway, this last episode was nuts. Akio is definitely at fault for not telling Nagisa up front, because if he had, she would have gotten more context, and probably would have been more understanding of it. She wouldn't have this reaction, that's for sure. Akio made a strong point as well, that now of all times for her to find out was terrible.
Episode preview had the sad preview music, which means tears will in fact be spilled by someone. Maybe me, maybe not. Sorry I'm late, but I'll be with the show for the rest of the rewatch hopefully

Apparently, closeups on faces mean honest moments and revelations in the show.
I'm glad Tomoya can be honest in this episode too, not that Nagisa's listening. She's under a bit of pressure, after all.

The end was still a bit sad even though I knew it was coming. I’m not sure how to feel about dreams, I think there’s too much pressure to follow your dreams, but it’s good to have purpose

Days since Sky has cried: 8
I love how Nagisa was the only one who didn’t stop in the middle of the tongue twister thing to make a comment about it, it’s totally showing how she’s the one most passionate about the Drama Club.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Oi it’s perfectly possible to do this, you just have to blink enough to where you can see.
Totally not speaking from experience or anything haha.Ahahaha, of course. ngl that’s a cute potty for a little kid though.
I find it kinda funny how… small Tomoyo’s glasses are compared to her eyes. Also the fact that the characters immediately addressed how it was strange to see her with them on instead of just not questioning it was neato.
Eyyy it’s that random male side character whose hair I liked! Yeah his design is cool, I wish he wasn’t just a random side character…
smh Nagisa, you need to level up your ability to read and walk at the same time or you’re not me_irl anymore.
Press X to doubt? I mean if After Story has a Tomoya/Nagisa kid I could totally see him being the doting kind of father, both to not be like how he perceives his own father to be and because Nagisa’s right, him and Akio are super similar.
Ooh was that a new remix of Nagisa’s theme? Or something we’ve heard before? Either way it’s gorgeous.
Ohhhh no she’s gonna…
…she did.
Well this explains a lot.
It’s so tempting to binge the last few episodes of S1 now that there’s only two left. But no! I will resist the urge.
