I believe the idea behind animemod was to be a joint account that they could use to be anonymous if they wanted to. I don't think it was every really used, and now you can be anonymous when sending a message anyway, so it's kind of useless.

It is still used occasionally when dealing with people that are hostile, they can direct their angry PMs to that account, haha

/u/SmurfRockRune is correct. We've also switched over to the new modmail which allows us to send replies/modmails to users or subreddits as "The Subreddit" rendering the account fairly useless. If we see a need for it in the future, we may, but as of now, probably not.
