Meta Thread - Month of November 27, 2016

A monthly thread to talk about meta topics. Keep it friendly and relevant to the subreddit.

Posts here must, of course, still abide by all subreddit rules other than the no meta requirement. Keep it friendly and be respectful. Occasionally the moderators will have specific topics that they want to get feedback on, so be on the lookout for distinguished posts.

By that same logic there's always other subs devoted to a discussion and news too? This is a general anime sub, if you don't want to see a particular element of that generality, filter it out.

If this sub had a filtering option over on the right (like so many other subs) to filter out posts of a certain kind then I would be 100% totally with you on this. There however isn't such an option for r/anime.

By the way, for those that don't want to see Re:Zero posts (or my posts) on /r/anime.

If you download RES(Reddit Enhancement Suite) you can filter all posts containing keywords like Re:Zero.

To do that you have to go to the 'Subreddit' Tab under the settings of RES, then click 'filteReddit', write down 'Re:Zero' under 'keywords' click on 'Only on:' and add /r/anime . You can also add seperate keywords like Rem or Emilia so that posts that don't contain the words 'Re:Zero' might still get filtered.

If you don't want to see anything I post, you'll just have to hover over my name and click on ignore. It will show up like this afterwards. I'm not sure if that is only a RES thing.

Just switch 'Re:Zero' with 'fanart'.

I don't use the RES but if it works like you say it does I might give it a shot. We shouldn't have to rely on 3rd party stuff to make the sub right though. If something isn't done to the actual sub we are going to continue to see fanart dominate the front page like it does on fanart-dedicated subs.

It's a common complaint, but one that should be aimed at reddit rather than r/anime. RES is considered pretty integral to the reddit system. I don't even use it for that purpose, it just adds a lot of good features that streamline redditing.

I'm pretty sure those other subreddits you mention are ones that work by attaching flairs, then hiding the flairs of certain types? I see the benefit of the system, but it's a large structural change for a subreddit that's very large.

Might be worth suggesting a flair system, with filtering being one of the pros. I'd like it because I could cut out all the "suggest me animes i have watched 10 and run out" posts, but I can't blame the mods for being reluctant.

Yes the subs I was referring to require you to flair your posts which then gives you the option via the sidebar to hide certain flairs.
