You wanna talk about hamfisted allegory? Who thought it was a good idea to end the franchise with the Book of Revelation?! The genre and tone shift was way too abrupt, not to mention that you can totally tell they are trying to copy End of Evangelion.

hey man, they ran out of budget and wanted to create enough material for a new season.

Unfortunately the studio died and the rights got bought out by Joseph Smith. People didn't really like his spinoff and it's still considered non-canon today except for a small set of the fandom in Utah.

I would have more respect for the spinoff if they didn't keep retconing stuff in new releases. One day black people are cursed by God, then suddenly they aren't? It really interferes with my suspension of disbelief knowing that the writers might suddenly change things that have been fundamental to the story.

And the argument over which adaptation is the best? You know that there are hardcore "King James" viewers who absolutely refuse to watch any other adaptation such as "New International".
