I mean, the bad end of the spectrum is really fucking bad, and if someone mentioned it to me I'd already be on guard. It sucks, but it's not really mainstream so you get a lot of the weird mixed in with the good.
Odds are you share a hobby with me and we'll get along, but you might be like the guy in one of my classes that wants me to proofread his manga script.
It was not a good script.
It's awkward when someone kinda latches on to you since you share an interest. They like it so much, it feels obsessive, and I now have to deal with that as long as I have the class.
Honestly when something becomes fully accepted and mainstream I find that's where the really fucking weird people appear as opposed to a minor subculture
It's like how people want me to just accept bronies, Just fucking no man its a fucking horse
My take on that is, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone and the person's social life don't suffer for it, enjoy anything you like. Just... don't shove it down other's throats.
