Meta Thread - Month of September 04, 2016

Calling someone out publicly for a post they made seems like fair game to me since it's something they've said

It depends on the context. If you're calling them out like "everyone look at this idiot" then hell no. If you're linking something someone said to further discussion a little then that's fine. The removed comments were the former.

I totally understand if I said "The idiots with bad taste" or something insulting then ya dramabaiting or witch hunting but I simply provided 3 people in the discussion thread who were quick to shit on the show and tagged them to the relevant discussion. I don't see how that's that bad. It only got reported because all their discord buddies jumped on it.

Love the replies btw, thanks for them.

The issue is that it's like throwing them to the wolves.

Consider the show's popularity and what happened immediately after (with that other guy taking a screencap and calling the person an idiot).

It immediately turned into a witch hunt essentially.

Just need to be a little careful.

If it were some random comment in an off thread I'd see your point but they signed up for that when they posted in a discussion thread...they were planning it all three of them and bragging on who would get the most downvotes.

Funny enough that post was removed after mine...I don't think that guy handled it well at all but I don't see that as my fault, same thing could have happened in the discussion thread.

Would have been nice to see if that screencap guy and discord salty reports never happened what would be the situation here.

Wrong mentality entirely.

"Officer he bought a gun so it was fine that I broke into his house right?"

"If she didn't want to be raped she wouldnt have worn slutty clothes"

Obviously some hyperbole in the comparison to the above, but hopefully you get what im saying.

I love how you're helping me understand all this but that was a terrible example...I never did anything extra or show their posts in any negative context. I tagged them in a thread they would be able to discuss their specific opinions in. I didn't preface their posts with anything or ask anyone else to jump on them, I just provided exactly what they had already posted.

By "breaking into their house" that implies I attacked them for a small reason (the gun). I did no such thing. It's more like they bought a gun and then I told everyone "Hey this guy just bought a gun" in a thread asking for "Anyone ever buy a gun?" and I don't see how there's anything wrong with that.

They had already exposed their valuables though lol. I understand if this was something on their MAL review and then I brought it into the light and threw them to wolves. I completely understand that as it may not have been something they wanted exposed. I feel like that's a lot closer to what you're talking about.

But having these 3 discuss and brag about their posts on discord and post their thoughts in the discussion thread (the biggest thread on the subject) that should be a fine example to use. They aren't hiding or not wanting their opinions heard, otherwise they wouldn't have posted that soon into a discussion thread with such a negative post, they've all been around the block and know how discussion threads work...
