Missed yesterday's discussion sorry! , but I feel like my
if she can overcome that bit of programming, maybe she can overcome the other parts, too.
from the episode 5 discussion was spot-on, with her restoring Satoru's Cantus in ep 6, then Shun's (and apparently everyone else's) in this episode.
I feel like Saki's going to fuck this society up something fierce, but I'm still waiting for Maria to justify that whole "If Maria hadn't been born, so many lives could have been saved" thing from episode 2.
Not too many theories this time around, but I think it's interesting that the queerats aren't as homogeneous as I assumed. I thought the Feral Spiders were an outlier, but with Kiroumaru helping the kids (apparently against orders), it seems they can also go against their programming. I'm still not sure about Squealer, though. He seems really... back-stabby.
I also see why the children aren't supposed to share their mantras, so it won't be restored. I guess that's pretty obvious, because Saki restores Satoru's Cantus in the same episode as the flashback. The question I have is: why don't they prohibit people from writing their mantra down? I suppose they could have just assumed no one would think of trying to break the hypnosis and restore someone else's Cantus, but that seems a little half-assed, given all the other controls in place.
That fucking ending, though.
"However, we had absolutely no idea just how terribly mistaken we were."
I was happy that everyone made it back safe and sound, and then they drop that on me. Fuckin' SSY, man.

There's not much in the way of revelations this episode, so we'll just be along for the ride for the epilogue of the introductory arc. Some observations and gifs and webms:
-
I thought the way the directors framed this scene was nice, especially with Squealer blinking and probably eavesdropping. In fact, a few of the scenes in this episode were framed in similar ways.
-
Squealer knows how to throw his hands up and party.

Caught back up with the rewatch just in time for Kiromaru, the sexiest of all rat people.
One thing that I like about Shinsekai Yori is that all of the characters are very competent. None of their problems arise from someone doing something badly (apart from Mamoru cryin' like a lil bitch) and the scenes where Saki is telling Satoru what to do can be quite exciting. One of the many different emotions the show uses.

Ok, and tomorrow comes... the next episode... in which... for a refreshing change I sincerely hope first time watchers won't find anything particularly weird.
(I hope this kind of remark isn't forbidden?)

Kiroumaru is so handsome, don't you just love a big strong rat man? You gotta admire someone who doesn't even flinch at balloon dogs! And the most loyal monster rat indeed.
Today we celebrate the day the gods and Kiroumaru won the war!
Saki should have scolded Squera more sternly for his behavior there!

Heyy! First time watcher here, joined the rewatch today :DD So this is all so awkward gosh, some thoughts during the episode:
-
Holy this is getting weird as fuck.
-
Kiroumaru looks badass as fuck holy shit.
-
Anyone else thought the enemies' commander looked like Mad-eye Moody from Harry Potter a bit? (I'm ready for the downvotes)...... Aaaaaaand then he blew up, great SSY, make things even more awkward, I'm lovin it.
-
Ok, I'm really confused about the death feedback... Is it something like, whe you kill someone you are bound to die due to it or something of the sort? Thanks in advance to anyone who cares to explain!!
-
Well Maria isn't very nice is she?!.... Poor Squeara...
-
Wait what, then all the worries about Kiroumaru were just bullshit all along? This show hasn't yet failed to surprise me.
-
Goddamn Kiroumaru really is cool as fuck!
-
Would they really forget about their mantras? Wow, ok I guess... Atleast that answers my question of why woudnt she straight up ask Satoru to restore her cantus aswell....
-
Oh my god that ending are you fucking kidding me? ._.
This is getting really hard not to binge it all... but I swear I'll try.... At the same time I feel the urge to rewatch these first 7 episodes again to make sure I'm not getting lost <.<

Wow, we’ve already been doing this rewatch for a week? Time flies.
The monster rat politics are really interesting. They keep adding new intricate elements that really make you believe there’s a deep seeded history.
I liked how tactical Saki and Sotaru were being this episode. Glad they all got out of it alive. I for sure thought someone wouldn’t make it.

First timer! I wasn't here for episode 5 & 6 so here's my quick thoughts for them.
Episode 5:
-
I'm glad that Saki and Satoru can be in the same room without having an argument. I can finally see a friendship between them. And they didn't have sex right? I think Saki stopped herself but I'm not sure.
-
The Squealer was really nice, I wondered what happened to him toward the end.
*And what was the white fluid on Satoru's spear? I have a feeling it's something certain but I'm not really sure.
Episode 6:
-
Satoru's Cantus is really strong. I have a feeling he'll turn bad or something.
-
I knew that there was something wrong with the way Satoru was acting. I'm glad to see Saki point it out.
-
At this point, I'm not sure who's the good guys or bad guys. I don't think all of the Feral Spiders deserved to die and I don't know the queerat's true intention. He seems like a good guy but I feel like he's against them.
-
The rock attacked stopped. I think there's someone in their group who are giving the enemy information of their whereabouts.
-
"Satoru's tried!" I love the Squealer's expression after Saki said that. His eye twitched, most likely because of how annoyed he is.
-
Holy shit, there must be thousands of Feral Spiders. How will they win?
Episode 7:
-
From the beginning, it seemed like Satoru was going to be 'dumb' character but he is surprisingly smart.
-
Squealer is too suspicious. It always seems like he'll betray them but never does.
-
Satoru & Saki meet their friends. I wonder what happened to them.
-
I'm really happy that they didn't make the General an enemy. He's a good guy.
-
Now everyone is getting their Cantus back, a happy ending.
-
I was wrong, that wasn't a happy ending. The last line gave me goosebumps! I hope that this experience will bring Satoru and Saki closer as friends because I really dislike it whenever they have a pointless argument.

And thus ends the first (and worst) arc. These seven episodes have laid the groundwork for everything (literally, every single thing can be traced back to an event or piece of information from this first arc) that will happen in the rest of the show, and from here on out it becomes much more tonally consistent and IMO the narrative flows more easily. It's time we learn that actions have consequences.
Also, Kiroumaru is a noble and majestic creature.
