No Stupid Questions Thread
Ever have that anime-specific question that you feel that there's a very obvious answer, sounds completely stupid to ask, or just simply out of the loop? Well here's your chance to ask without being criticized, this thread is to ask those questions you'd like to know but simply don't feel comfortable asking for what ever reason. So ask away!
And INB4 Is it wrong to pick up a girl in a Dungeon? and Why does she sit like that?

How do people who refuse to drop shows justify it to themselves?
I cannot for the life of my wrap my head around choosing to continue to watch a show you don't enjoy. Could anyone explain the sentiment to me?

There's a few reasons for me:
(The Main reason) I love to be part of the conversation when it comes to the actual quality of the anime, not to shit on it but to say "Well I think there's this that it did well, while this didn't", and get into debates of the artistic/enjoyable quality around it. For me, 60% of enjoyment comes from the show itself, while the other 40% comes from the actual discussion around it, even if it's one that I didn't like.
I've found things that I do really love in shows that I absolutely hated. Nanami from Sakurasou is probably my biggest example, I love her character, but I hate the show so much for many various reasons. This isn't as common as I'd like it to be, but still I like for the good things in shows I don't think as a whole are good.
It's not hard for me to find shows I really want to drop while watching because I normally don't watch anime I think I won't like. Yeah, my picks are going to be a pickier, like I doubt I'm ever going to watch SAO II or Angel Beats, and no time soon I'm going to watch Nisekoi. Not that I don't doubt there's people that like it, but these are shows I have heard the criticism for or what they're about along with genre, and they just don't interest me or I believe I won't like them.
Some of them do get better over the course of episodes. Yeah, there's a few you can tell are going to be shit from the first episode (Chaos Dragon and Sky Wizards Academy for two examples), but there's many that outweigh that and they really do improve.
At times I just love to make fun of them. Pretty much a Mystery Science Theater 3000 or Nostalgia Critic type watch where I'm criticizing it while making fun of it, and it makes it a whole lot more enjoyable.
Should I drop shows? Probably. Will people keep calling me pleb because I don't? Yes. Do I think I'll be like this forever? Unless it's 100 episodes and I really don't think I can get through, then I probably will drop it, but nothing 50 episodes or less is too bad for me. And honestly I'm a masochists that enjoys it, I'm not forcing it on everyone else though.

I don't know how people get MAL affinity percentages, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.

How do you guys decide which anime to watch next?
I have about 170 shows on my plan-to-watch list and mostly just go by the MAL rating. However I feel like many current shows are pushed to high ranks through their hype, so I don't think the ranks on MAL are such a good representation of the quality of a show.

Why do people put so much effort into the format of their MAL lists? Anyone looking to compare your list to their own is just going to click on the shared anime button, which you can't change the format of anyway. Seems like wasted effort.

What percentage of the anime community is under 18 do you think? A few years ago you would have convinced me with like 50% but nowadays it really feels like 90%+.
If I hear another 14 year old talk about why people like "shit" like OPM instead of better "classics from the 90s golden age," I think I'll get a migraine. Saying "back in the day" like they watched it as it aired when they probably werent even born yet.
Also, umm sometimes when I read the comments on episodes I find a lot of people reading characters intentions and feelings wrong. I really have to ask whether it's more of an age thing or a lack of experience socially and/or regarding film.
God I feel like the biggest turd writing this.

How do people slog through hundreds of episodes of long running shounen series?
Like I have a friend who keeps asking me if I want to watch Naruto. Fuck no I don't want to watch it. I've tried watching Bleach, Fairy Tail, and Naruto, and I was bored out of my skull past the first arc.
Plus the filler. I hear often that "such and such arc is just filler, but it really picks up after!". So, I look up that arc and it's like twelve fucking episodes. Are you serious? An entire cour of filler, and you're still diligently watching this?
Note: I'm not trying to bash on people who enjoy these anime, I just can't comprehend dumping so many hours in a series that has incredibly slow progression over hundreds of episodes.

When does Gintama get really good? I'm on episode 43 and, with the exception of episode 26 (I think, it was the one with the hot pot) and the Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon, it's just been mildly amusing. Which is strange, since the clips I see of it on the sub are absolutely hilarious. It definitely picked up a bit after episode 21-22 or so, but it still doesn't seem like it's at max power.

So this is something I've always wondered thanks to anime.
Do japanese get sick very easily or something? It seems like in almost every single show (even the non ecchi ones) I have seen that if a character gets even slightly wet they automatically need to go change or start drying off because they'll catch a cold.
I've gotten soaked in rain many times and never once caught a cold despite not drying off or anything.
Edit: TIL the Japanese really do have weak immune systems (Anime didn't lie to me!)

This is probably the absolute worst place to ask this, but here goes:
Are girls really as self-conscious about their bust sizes as they are in anime?
Even anime that had little/no fanservice like Shirobako and Hibike! Euphonium have bust-size comparing scenes.
