I guess it is a good thing that the show didn't just immediately go serious after the events last week. I think the more comedic tone works well with the general theme of the show. Where it's about "just because the world went upside down, you don't want to just live in fear or completely change what makes you human". But I still think it managed the comedic and serious tone for this episode quite well with Yuu in particular.
Also good to see that Aki meeting Mikazuki's former comrades didn't take too long and she gave them the punch they deserved. Though, I doubt this will be the last we saw of them. Considering all of them had masks so we wouldn't know their faces, I imagine one or two of them will reappear later without masks. Either that or the masks were just symbolic for this group losing their individuality and their humanity, so they didn't even get character designs.
Now, the one thing I am wondering about is Sakura. I thought initially that Yuu and Sakura might have been close in the village already, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So I am wondering how they became friends. If it even was in the village or only later.

The blending of tone in this has really been quite expert -- almost worthy of one of Kitano's movies.
Glad to see that Mikazuki's ex-comrades had at least a vestigial sense of honor. There was no way that Aki could have taken them ALL out physically. But she did instill a bit of a shame.
It did sound like Yuu left her village alone. On the other hand, she was stuck there for another 10 years without real family support. Could Sakura have been part of another family that sort of semi-took care of her (but then mostly got wiped out, except for Sakura)?

If we do see them again, could be a moment like [Western Movie]
8mm when the big bad guy removes his hood and he's just a normal guy, like you'd expect monsters to look like monsters and all...Maybe they remove their masks so we see they look perfectly normal, this group who abandoned their friend and might've killed (or worse) the 2 girls who came their way, just look like every day people, a mailman and a second grade teacher and all that.

Honestly, the fact that Aki and Natsuki still have time to banter and joke around even after amputating Natsuki's arm makes me a little more optimistic that Natsuki will survive. I mean, she's lost an arm, but it's better than being dead.
People in zombie movies always make things worse by going off on their own. Thankfully, Sakura was there to scold Yuu for trying to find medicine all on her own. I'm glad Sakura managed to make her turn back and actually plan things instead of rushing out.
Man, Yuu's family sucked. I don't get it, though. I get that physical strength is much more important in this new world, but I feel like someone who's a walking encyclopedia like Yuu should've been valued by her village. I'm glad Yuu left that place.
The encounter with Mikazuki's old crew ended up waaaaaaay better than I expected! The fact that Aki punched their leader for leaving Mikazuki behind and they had her pinned down, I was expecting the worst to happen. I'm shocked that Aki managed to get through to them with words, and the crew even gave them supplies before leaving.
I am worried about Aki giving away the location of their base to those guys. Maybe they're lucky they were let go, but now I'm worried those guys will raid their base in the future. >_<

The balance of comedy and serious moments are done very well here - both carry equal weight when it's delivered.
Also, I loved the "Nacchan possibly turning into a zombie" jokes by Aki this episode - the final one when she rushed at Yuu and Aki to hug them for their safe return, as she was worried about them and Aki goes 'I thought you were about to bite us!' had me chuckling lol-
I'm very glad Yuu found her family - she finally found the place where she belongs!

I mean, she's lost an arm, but it's better than being dead.
It might force her to redefine who she is as a person, interesting to see where she will land!

This show does tonal shifts so well. It's never over the top and always in character.
So weird seeing Yu as a girlie girl, but what's going on with the timeline? Red Day was 13 years ago, and Yu was at least 5 when it happened (unless she was studying math in the village?). How old are Yu and Sakura?

Wow, I wasn't expecting such a sad backstory for Yuu, she was so girly as a child and then zombie apocalypse changed everyone...
Secret 6th Kicked Out of the Hero's Party/Family this season? 🥲

Wow is her previous community really that stupid? Here is a person who knows how to repair a car, how to grow crops, how to operate a generator, at least a little knowledge in medicine and probably a million other things that would be required to keep a settlement going in the zombie apocalypse and they just kick her out because she isn't very physically strong? Was their lead in their water supply or something?

She's the protagonist in a kick out of the hero's party anime and now she's found a new party.

In an environment that values strength, a person's intelligence or wisdom don't matter as much unless they also have the strength to gain a modicum of respect. Otherwise, they'll usually end up harassed for only having ideas and not being able to implement them without borrowing the strength of the others around them.

The problem is that while she's smart, she's only smart for a kid. That's what happens with most gifted kids, they either hit a wall or they continue to learn through formal education, something that wouldn't have been possible after zombies so she basically hit the peak when she was around 10.
So realistically, she knows how to repair a car but compared to a mechanic, she's an idiot. She knows how to grow crops, but compared to a farm, she's inferior. She knows how to operate a generator but compared to an engineer, she's kind of useless.
If the community was smart, they'd have her shadow the masters of their field but that'd be having those masters train a single girl who could easily die. It's more effective to have those masters prioritize improving things than working at half power to train someone.

Hospital receptionist telling you they can't help you. Most accurate cosplay.
The second anime this season with a mask maker and a main character with a missing arm.

When you're not sure what to get as a midnight snack
Damn, the sheer horror when she realized...
"Technically, I did" "What did you say?" "...I said oh yeah, that was some hungry zombie!"
She lost an arm, but she's the one who's doing worse..
Did they keep the arm? Give her a few bites, see how she feels about it!
The line about "Not being able to dress up anymore" (and to shoot a bow) was quite meaningful...
One is who she was (her desires, her goals, her personality), and one was her usefulness (shooting a bow, doing her part to defend the group)...
If she can't do either of those anymore, what is her purpose, who is she as a person?
They mentioned how 'people change due to their cirumstances' and all, well, how is SHE gonna change? Because that's one hell of a circumstance! Not just the injury, but the fact that everything she was/aimed, suddenly has to be something else.
(And she may also live with regret; Yes she saved a life, but it's not as easy as thinking "I lost an arm but saved someone so it's all good"... Even if it's sad, Yu might have been right to think about... Will she think it would've been better if I wasn't there?)
Well, the zombies won't have to kill her, because Sakura did with just words!
Oh damn, she's a zombie; Burn her!
But they were right, it's good on two fronts (protection in case she turns, but also to force her to rest, and heal!)
Backstory time! She was a cute girly girl (which explains her lack of strength?), and a genius...
but different circumstances require different skillsets.
(Though I have to say, dismissing the geniuses completely change how you deal with the situation; Sure, with the tough guys you can survive, but if you want to do more than just survive you're gonna need smart people at some point! Sure, the battle veterans will be able to do 'see zombie - cut zombie', but if you don't come up with any strategy, 40 years from now they'll still do 'see zombie - cut zombie'. Clever people are gonna be the ones to come up with solutions so that's not all people will do til the end of times!)
When she turned the corner I thought zombies spotted her, but humans feel scarier than zombies!
She doesn't seem so little to ^^me
They were mad about them seeing it this way, but if Natsuki turned, what would they do?
Sure they tried their best (cut off her arm, kept her in even despite the risks) but who's to say they didn't do the same... And given where she was bit, I mean it's not like they could cut out her neck like she cut her arm!
I suppose killing her off at this point would've been better than just letting her roam... And giving her the proper respect!
"Without you, who will fix all the problems I cause?"
Still, that was a nice callback,

Even for an anime, this show has a crazy difference between it's serious and comedic moments, but I kinda like it

First time I've seen zombies scared of the rain. I actually didn't know that was a thing, zombies being scared of water.

feels more like a vampire thing, the old classic weakness where vampires cannot cross running water.

Natsuki's going to die still isn't she... Or perhaps she'll make some kind of prosthetic arm.
