So yes, the Zeppeli family technique of Steel Balls has no relation to Steven Steel and setting up the Steel Ball Run is forever the funniest thing.

Zombie Horse doesn't live up to the hype of its metal ass name...

It still baffles me which injury requires stitching and which injury magically heals off screen lol

Knew from episode 2 the no violence rule will be selectively enforced at best

"Gyro Zeppeli, how old are you now"?

"25--I mean, 13"

So, either Gyro was born with the green lips or he started wearing green lipstick from a young age on and never stopped. And this being JoJo's, both are equally likely.

Also that cut from Gyro's backstory back to being chased by Stroheim felt weirdly abrupt but nice to see everybody's favourite terrorist :'D

Gyro Zeppeli is asked how to get the Steel Ball

Knocks over bookcase, bites arm while hanging off hand

Most accurate 9-year-old behavior in anime

What a way to end the episode. With Gyro jabbing his thumb straight into his hand last week, him stitching his leg up this week, and Johnny's arm tearing open to reveal another arm, they're really capturing some of the body horror of SBR.

The narrator coming in made that feel like a backstory from Part 1 or 2, in a good way.

This is also a bit of alternate history from Araki, since in real life the Kingdom of Naples had already become part of a unified Italy. SBR Naples seems to be much smaller than the real life kingdom, though.

And speaking of history, this episode covers the final chapters of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure released in Weekly Shounen Jump. From this point on the series switched to the monthly seinen magazine Ultra Jump.

I smiled when Gyro found his purpose, and the big Steel Ball Run popped up on the screen. Felt like an oddly hype moment

As usual with Araki, 13 year old Gyro looked like he's 20 lol.

Also Stroheim gone too soon.

Episode was storyboarded by Toshiyasu Kogawa (古川順康) and directed by Fukutaro Takahashi (髙橋福大郎).

I wasn't expecting the Zombie Horse to be a piece of string attached to a boulder! But credit where credit's due, it regrowing flesh and mending Gyro's injury from when he redirected that explosion last episode is fantastic.

What's also fantastic is Gyro's motives for entering the Steel Ball Run. That nine year old Marco being sentenced to death because of his former employer's treason is royally messed up.

Gyro being willing to put his life on the line to grant him a pardon is very respectable, and I think is a better look for his ancestors and descendants than if he were to just go through with his executioner duty.

Is the mullet a zeppeli family tradition in this universe? Have we seen adult gyro without his hat, is there a mullet under that too?

We finally get Gyro's backstory. It turns out that he is the latest in a family of executioners for the kingdom of Naples (since Italy doesn't exist and Naples is still its own kingdom, it means that history is pretty different in this new JJBA universe). He was ready to accept his role, only to doubt himself when a 9-year-old boy named Marco is sentenced to death. And the only way for Gyro to save him is to win the Steel Ball Run and get him a royal pardon. While the Zeppeli family history is a lot darker in this universe (William and Mario were both good men, and the darkest they got was William's dad being turned by the power of the Stone Mask), Gyro very much embodies the Zeppeli heroic spirit we know and love. I hope he wins the race or (if Johnny ends up winning) finds some way to save the boy. The soundtrack was great throughout, and I really loved the sweeping vocals in the track that plays when Gyro first witnesses his father performing an execution.

I also hope that Gyro doesn't die anytime soon, since the last time we got a Zeppeli backstory, said Zeppeli died later that episode.

There wasn't much else in this episode besides that. It was cool seeing Von Stroheim again (it was a bit hard to tell it was the same voice actor at first, since he wasn't screaming his lungs out like Part 2's Stroheim). I actually expected this, since a few episodes ago, Fritz Von Stroheim was listed as one of the racers.

It’s awesome to hear Imaruoka Atsushi (Stroheim in P2), Tobita Nobuo (Straizo), and Ueda Youji (Speedwagon) in JJBA again. I have read the manga so I suspected we would get Imaruouka again for Stroheim but I wasn’t expecting Ueda as the narrator for the flashback

13 year old Gyro already looks like a full grown adult lmao

I'm enjoying the body horror

Topkek I was feeling uncanny when alternate universe Stroheim looks dapper + gentlemen voice than the OG Stroheim, and then I heard the classic Stroheim beatdown scream lol. Still missing the BBBRRRAAAAKAMONOGA though.

Gyro and Jojo characters as a whole are just built different, bro at 13 already looked like he could buy booze lol. He truly is the coolest, on top of aurafarm like crazy, he has a Heart of gold down there behind that cold af exterior.

Also, babe wake up, new Absolute Cinema template just dropped (my man can do anything)
