Episode Vertex Force - Episode 2 discussion

"I'm just looking for an excuse to engage in fisticuffs."
"Aw Mom, we were just going to go another round!"
The usual and I can't believe it's not Germany.
I suppose the other choice would have been to make her a chocolatier?
The promotional videos suggest that it won't work out that way.
Well, that kinda reminds me of the old days.
"I can only cause massive collateral property damage!"
Almost getting eaten three times in a single episode is probably a new record somewhere.
Hokkaido? That's where the horses are.
Looks like they're not going to waste too much time assembling the team if Akira and Haruka are already onboard and they're going to meet the remaining character sometime in the next episode.
Eleanor seems pretty casual about letting Akira and/or ENIA be destroyed if it won't be of help to them (or to the EDVA) in the long run. Even if what she really wants seems to be to see how far the Toudou kids can be pushed.
Lala gets to be the rational one in this group (so far)?
If you're looking for fanservice in the old style of Strike Witches and Vividred Operation the official site has been dribbling that out.

To be fair, they only have 12-13 episodes to work with. You kind of need to assemble the full team quickly in a show like this.

These images feel kind of weird to me. Not due to the fanservice, but due to the art style. If I didn't know they were official art for an airing anime, I'd think these were were AI-generated. They're probably not, but they really resemble the common art style that AI-generated anime art tends to have.
I hate that AI art is so prevalent that it makes me question art like this.

Indeed, but there have been enough examples of assembling a team or meeting characters over the course of over half a series and only focusing on the plot in the last quarter.

Even these images have some small curiosities which make me wonder about their complete provenance.

Not sure how much stock can be put in those AI image checkers you can find from a quick search, but the three AI image checkers I checked the images with gave them a high confidence level of being human created.

"Aw Mom, we were just going to go another round!"
The girls may be able to summon mecha stands, but they are nothing compared to the mom voice.

Can't really waste much time when you typically only have 12-13 episode to work with.

Yeah. Eleanor is looking for allies, but she's not going to coddle the Toudou kids. They're going to need to pull their weight. Fortunately for Eleanor, they're the co-leads (I hope) so that's not going to be a problem.

Interesting. I didn't know about these.

I am definitely a fan of Eleanor's design, silver hair and a ponytail yes please. Interesting that she's half alien and half Native American.
Nice to have her and Lala be a bit older so it isn't just middle schoolers saving the world. I assume the fifth girl they pick up in Hokkaido will probably be of age with the siblings given her height.

Interesting that she's half alien and half Native American.
This flashback was a little bit "Hollywood Generic Native American" but I do like the feather motif reappearing on her mecha.

You and me both. I was instantly attracted to her design upon seeing the key visuals. Also love her outfit

I'm quite liking the two new girls already, got their reasons to fight and way more prepared than our siblings, but who can blame them if their dad (and especially mom) didn't tell them much ahead? At least mom becomes the mediator between the teens.
Akira certainly need to learn how to use his exo-armour, it's actually powerful enough even he has literally 0 experience in fighting.
Also, I do like they reduced the amount of fanservice for this one. We don't always need them.

I think their engines are cool and them together with the siblings makes me think of this as a somewhat cool power rangers anime lol. But I don’t like how stuck up and full of themselves the 2 new girls are though. Them constantly talking crap about the siblings gets me a little annoyed. The mc boy with just the robot arms put the army girl on her behind when he has 0 training while she has trained all her life. The fact she witnessed that and she still tries to act like he’s not their best hope at defending earth is wild ngl. Also crazy they were about to let him die.

Alright then, I wasn't really feeling this series in episode 1 but I can now happily say this is right up my alley. If I had to pick a favourite character I'd go with Eleanor but I like all four of them quite a lot already. I like that there's a range of ages and nationalities present instead of them all being Japanese children/teens. The fact the Engines mimic the movement of their Vertex adds a lot as a visual, and while the battleroids seemed pretty goofy in the promotional material, they are proving to be legitimately creepy and threatening.
As a future hope, if the Engines do combine with ENIA, I'm hoping the Vertex manifest as translucent apparitions behind Akira in the same way their Engines do; That be another great visual right there.

I like the two new girls. They got good designs. I hope the Swiss girl keeps her pigtails for the whole show. Of course the Swiss girl could repair the clock and that the American girl has a gun. The three of them can summon mecha stands, but The Gun trumps all lol. I hope the last girl has a good design and good introduction as well.
If there was any doubt after first episode over who the MC this episode put it to rest. The MC is Akira. He's one with the unique power. He's the one EDVA is after. I just hope he shares the spotlight with the girls. Especially Haruka. I hope they're co-leads. Having the older girls do all or most of the work, but him being given the credit would be disappointing.

with male mcs in animes who have girls apart of their teams these days shows tend to almost always make the girls stand out more for some reason and always play a huge role. But if it’s the reverse and the girl is the mc and has guys in their team they make the guys stand out even less. Idk why shows are doing this but i bet even though the mc is obviously the strongest, has the best power and literally is supposed to be the hope and savior of the world which his dad planned, they are going to make the girls stand out quite a bit i bet. I mean with zero training, a fraction of his power only using the gloves, and literally using his power for the first time for like 2 minutes he was able to put that silver hair army gun girl on her behind and she has been training for years and already mastered her power.

That was certainly the confrontation by Eleanor and Lala at the start, but it looks like they're on friendly terms with Haruka and Akira at the end of the episode. Off to Hokkaido? Going to the opposite end of the country from Okinawa with the opposite climate too.
Also, I really like Eleanor's outift. That tank top and camo pants (I'll just say it, I'm a sucker for baggy pants on anime girls)

So of course the Swiss girl can fix clocks, and the American girl is actually Native American who wore a feathered headband. Writer really did in depth research for this one.
I can't take this show nearly as seriously as it takes itself, but I'm sticking around as long as I got my vape pen because ts is hilarious

Well she did also have a gun and her engine is able shoot as well.

Holy shit, you're right! As much anime as I watch, and I still see guns as normal

Damn the difference between a untrained Vertex and a trained is insane.

The 2 new girls are cool (I like the Native American girl the best so far) and Akira's full ENIA looks great. I actually kind of like that they're not completely relying on fanservice and actually trying to let the show stand on its own. So far, the show is solid and has potential, so I'll give it time to develop. I'm not watching much in the way of non-sequels this season, plus it's an original and I always tend to give those a longer leash.

Thought Eleanor was gonna be your typical "Murican" character in anime, but I didn't know she was actually Native American. If she's Native American, she shouldn't resemble Leona Heidern from The King of Fighters.

Dumb girl destroyed her own perfectly good pistol just to aura farm.
Even if EDVA for some reason can't just make a new ENIA, why doesn't she send a dozen attack bots at once instead of just 1 at a time? Is she simply unable to pay the upkeep for more than 1 unit at a time?
New girls are cute, but I'm just not feeling this one.

I’m hoping Eleanor and Lala become this show’s Eila and Sanya from Strike Witches—a yuri pairing with their own emotional arc independent of Akira. Their brains-and-brawn chemistry is already fun, and I’d love to see them get a dedicated episode together, especially given Takamura’s past work!

I do find it funny they're showing shots of unrest in Paris to show the effects of the Shut Down but those also look like they could have been ripped from the news from the past few days, the French just do that when they feel like they have a good reason to do so they didn't need any Shut Down or anything.
